Ok, maybe Simon is a little harsh, BUT he speaks the truth. Do you really think he would waste his time listening to everyone to turn away a great singer?? If you can't sing, you can't sing. That is a fact and it really bothers me when people try to ignore facts!

And he is not that critical on the people that just have OK voices (well unless they show an attitude)....he is critical on the people that are absolutely dreadful and cannot carry a tune to save their life. And many of these people think so highly of themselves and they have the inability to admit they suck at something---they deserve to be ridiculed in this case for being stupid!

i think simon does his best work when he talks about what he knows...singing...and he often talks about this as what it is - a singing competition

but his take on people's weight issues and dress are often inappropriate and i guess if simon were right then elton john and aretha franklin would be out of a job...and i am talking about how weird elton used to dress, but come to think of it, he has weight issues these days ;)

and, hehe, it's a good thing he didn't directly insult the once very fat randy jackson

I do think Simon is out of line just sometimes (well like when the person is on the way out the door and he decides to insult them)....BUT I must add this competition is about image and personality too. These people have to sing great, and they also have to be liked by a large portion of America so if you are just too hideous to look at, then you probably will not do well.

And obviously with previous year contestants, the judges do not discriminate against fat people on this show---it is mainly just really weird people!!

my WEdNESDAY comments on the auditions in San Fran:

I think the American Idol has already been found as of tonight....the gorgeous 21 year old girl who's mom was the vocal coach. They told her she was the best they have heard in the competition so far---and I think she is the best I have ever heard on this show!! She will do AWESOME!!

Now the chick at the very end with the BIG HAIR looked almost 47 instead of 27! WTF? But she said has been in a rock band since she was 7...that might explain the old look on her.

FINALLY OMG..the dude at the very end that would SHAKE his face with every note was just FREAKING ME OUT (and making me laugh so hard)....but Randy seriously looked scared!!!

DAMN IT, I am so sorry, but at least American Idol is a show that you can watch OVER AND OVER AND OVER again....its funnier the more you see it and know its going to be good! My bad though!!

Actaully its been driving me crazy that I haven't found more people on this board interested in the show and wanting to talk about it!! I didn't even think many people were reading this thread anyway!!

The show was not as good as last nights though.....SO FAR NOTHING TOPS Greensboro for being the funniest epi yet!! Thats for damn sure!! :D

Yes I have read stories about the Stones and I could not believe some things.

There is also different and unique, and then there is freakishly weird---it scares me watching some of these people come out to audition because I realize they live in America  . That is what I meant. Yes I like some outcasts and weird people too. But American Idol is very mainstream.... mainly POP music all the way!!

you mean to tell mean mick jagger is not freakishly weird

i love the stones and i have got used to them being a fan of them since the early 80s, but mick always finds a move or two, or gesture that makes me feel embarassed for the poor guy ;)

he is downright strange any way i see it

Well I am not a huge fan of the Rolling Stones. I still think I have seen weirder people than Mick Jagger audition on American Idol over the years. I think the some of the things I have read about Mick are very strange though.

I am sure that has something to do with his lips maybe?? :p

I agree! That girl gave me the chills. If she can sing like that from now until the end and continue to improve she should be the one to beat.

i can't really pin it on just the lips, though the lips are a big part of the stones' image with the official logo and all, but the whole package that is mick jagger would have driven simon cowell to drink had he won an american idol, or british pop idol, contest

i remember in season two when simon criticized clay aiken early on and said something like "you would be good for broadway, but you don't have a pop star type of voice"

well, so far, he's the most successful star from all of the seasons and will probably be the only household name ten years down the line...i think last season's winner, carrie underwood, is mostly forgotten and doesn't stand a chance in the years to come

Nooooo, Kelly Clarkson by far RULES the idol winners!! She is coolness and I love her songs. Clay has came and gone in my opinion---I'll admit he did good for not even winning the contest though. But I don't see or hear of him ANYWHERE and I buy a lot of magazines! Bo Bice has been the most successful male star to date!

after what seemed like a long absence, i think kelly has made a comeback but i don't know if the rock and roll style she has now really suits her

i do like her more than clay aiken, but i think fantasia has the most talent, followed by rueben

bo is a great rock and roll singer

carrie underwood is good at many styles and is perhaps the most versatile, but she reminds me of marie osmond, but with blond hair ;)

well, it's 755 pm and i have to get to idol, pacific standard time

I think we have different tastes I guess cause Fantasia made me want to pull my hair out...her voice was like nails on a chalkboard to me!

Anyway, did you see the "related family member" to Fantasia audition last night???.....HE WAS AWFUL!!! I mean WTF, why did anyone let him go do that!!

Oh man!! I am laughing over that one!! ;)

I'd have to say that Clay AIKEN is on his way back home to Raleigh any day now. He is not going to be able to afford his phatty LA crib if he does not start making some more hits soon!! :)

fantasia's relative was hideous and it shocked me...i wonder what fantasia thought watching that audition on tv

i think she was one of the better singers so far this season...i think she had volume problems and tended to oversing a little but i would not be surprised if she makes the final 12 for this season...her singing didn't seem all that natural and was somewhat forced but i think she can use her training to tailor it to the show and a more pop vocal sound

the girl in san francisco who opened the show who was an opera singer did opera well where volume is needed without a mike but when she tried pop, she oversang it and sounded like an opera singer trying to sing pop...also not very natural for pop

This same thing happened last year when Toni Braxton's cousin auditioned...omg...he ended up being one of the people I laughed at so hard because of how strange his voice sounded, but yeah, very embarrassing for her too!

it's so funny how singing can have nothing to do with genes :)

where i live there's this boy who is a math/science geek and while his brother(s) who are also that way look like the stereotypical geeks who are not "chick magnets", he won on the first season of america's top model, or top male model, or some strange show like that

before the show, his fellow students on campus respected him as a smart guy...now that he's famous as a model, people now talk slowly to him as if he is zoolander or something ;)

from the last two nights, who stood out the most as ones who got in who shouldn't have, and got eliminated who should have gone to hollywood for the next round?

though the "fit model" girl looked like she could be a star like britney spears, she wasn't that good of a singer but she was let through to the next round

the young piersen twins were very good and i have no idea why the judges didn't let them through to hollywood...maybe because there have been some twins already sent forward?

i liked the voice of the prematurely gray haired man and i am glad they didn't reject him for his "older" looks since age 30 is the cutoff point in this competition

next week in boston should be very interesting

My thoughts on the auditions tonight in BOSTON....if there was any talent there the viewers didn't see it that is for sure! Not one awesome singer out of the whole show BUT the Clay Aiken look alike was HILARIOUS--they should have put him on the whole show because he was THAT entertaining! The immigrant girl that danced around all weird was pretty funny too...the best part is when she kept losing her voice but still trying to sing!! :D

It sucks because I cannot believe the auditions are already over??? Is it just me or is the try-out period not as long as it used to be! Oh well I did get some good laughs (mainly in Greensboro) but not as much as the years past!

On to the best singers now...tomorrow night should be good and full of DRAMA!! :)

hollywood week, finally

i am so glad that the crazy guy of the "universe" is going home

isn't funny how some singers could sing without instruments and be perfectly fine, but add a piano and some professional backup singers and it all goes to pot?

i am sad that the younger twins got kicked off, but the older twins who were better, were predictably sent through to the next round...i wonder if one or both of the two brothers will make it to the final 12

i still can't detect a better voice in one brother over the other and they are both far better than most of the people who made it to the next round

the girl who is supposedly great, the one with a mother who is a professional voice coach, was slightly under volume and out of tune but i think she made it by the skin of her teeth last night...she was off and not as good as her original debut

WOW, thanks for the update!!! I was watching the grammys so I recorded AI....haha about crazy guy---he WAS freaking TOO crazy!!! I am surprised about the girl we thought was so good....she must be cracking under pressure! But in years past sometimes when a contestant is about to go down, they end up turning it all around and winning!! Can't wait to watch this epi later!! :)
