WOW, thanks for the update!!! I was watching the grammys so I recorded AI....haha about crazy guy---he WAS freaking TOO crazy!!! I am surprised about the girl we thought was so good....she must be cracking under pressure! But in years past sometimes when a contestant is about to go down, they end up turning it all around and winning!! Can't wait to watch this epi later!! :)

did you notice randy jackson in the grammy stage band in the background? besides being a member of various bands like journey, he was also a hired hand for many shows and events of all types in the entertainment business

randy was competing with randy in the same time slot! man, that dude gets around very fast...and it must be due to his leaner, meaner physique ;)

Yes I did happen to see Randy on stage at the Grammys---that is too funny! And the Randy look alike the other night was crazy!!

I have to admit Randy is the FUNNIEST one to look at when someone is singing badly....his facial expressions are hilarious! Oh my gosh, one of my most memorable moments from season 3 was SCAT GIRL....she did a terrible job and then ended the whole audition with one LOUD PIERCING SCREAM!!! Randy literally grabbed his head and yelled in horror---you could just see the painful look on his face!! So classic!!! :)

jethatfield, if your out there I hope you catch AI tonight....I will not say much until it hits the west coast, but its drama filled (with the britian twins, and the broke note cowboys, LOL) Its crazy and I had some good laughs!! :) No one could ever write stuff like this that is why I love reality tv!

I think I saw some auditions for this on ITV2 not so long ago. I dunno, we get things later and that but it was a little funny. Sorta Office-funny. embarassing.

what I don't get is why everyone sings like a 'diva' these days. its all about flares and that. whatever the word is. I don't like it, but I don't listen to that kind of music anyways. I could go on into more detail but it would probably offend.

the twins are difficult contestants but are better than many a top 12 contestant in the past, so it will be interesting to see how far they get

the singing cowboys chose the wrong song because all three can sing

but many singers chose the wrong song and it ended their run on american idol

Yep, after all that hassle with twins I was happy when the one brother watched the other brother come in the meeting room finally (i guess I need to finally learn their names now if I am going to keep discussing them, LOL)! The producers split them up so there would be that moment of stress at the end wondering if each of them made it through to the next round!! :) And Difficult talented contestants = more Drama = Higher Ratings!! ;)

too much drama, but in this rare case, they have talent...maybe the most of anybody this season

i have not seen any women who have really impressed me yet...the girl with laryngitis might be a contender but her last performance was understandably diminished but she was the most impressive woman of the early city tour rounds

the only other singer i see as an early favorite is the gray haired man who looks older than he is

it's about time a man wins this thing again

I totally agree with you that I really think it might be the year for some guys to battle it out--its about time (although I voted for Bo Bice last year and I wanted him to beat Carrie)!!

And the gray haired dude is pretty good---his hair definitely makes him stand out. I just cannot believe his hair has been that way since he was 6 years old though?? Very bizarre!! :) Well I actually went to workout at the gym tonight during 8-9 so I have tonight's show recorded and might watch half of it before I go to bed! I am very interested to see what happened!! :)

The "gray-haired dude" is Taylor Hicks, from Birmingham, Alabama. It's interesting that in past seasons, we've already seen one winner (Ruben Studdard) and a runner-up (Bo Bice), both from the Birmingham area. Taylor is definitely one of the favorites, and he's obviously a talented performer, but I have the feeling he won't make it to the final rounds. But I'd love to be wrong on that prediction. ;)

the south has done well in this show...kelly from texas, rueben from alabama, clay (runner up but highest selling idol) from north carolina, and fantasia from alabama (i think)

the only yankee to win so far is carrie from oklahoma

what is it with my state, california? we have a ton of bands and artists that made it from la and the bay area in the history of rock and roll and we are probably second only to london bands and artists...but of course, many californians here today, and in the past, were not born in the state

so, what do you think?

personally, i think it leaves the show with perhaps the weakest final 24 i have ever seen unless some singers really step up to the plate very soon

Fantasia is also from North Carolina.

so that state has done really well

and there were a couple of top 12s that came from hawaii, a very small state...but again, where is the talent from such a huge state like california?

I was disappointed that the cowboy kid did so poorly in the end. His attitude was just so adorable. But in the end I am happy I guess that he was sent home. A kid that clean and fresh doesn't need to be poisoned by big city life.

If he had made it to the final 12, Simon would have been riding his back like an anemic bronco on national television. Simon was so tough on that red headed teenager, from a previous season, who only seemed to do big band crooner tunes. Simon, for some reason, does not think teens are "developed" enough to be taken seriously.

The young cowboy kid will improve with time and can become a really good singer.

...........

AS FOR THE TOP 12 female singers that sang on feb. 21st, i think four of them, like simon said, did pretty good...my picks are the two teens among the women who are well beyond their years in talent, the basketball player girl who has greatly improved, and of course the girl who is the daughter of the professional voice coach

also, the girl who simon called "france" was pretty dynamic and she will also make the top six among the women

we are reaching final 12

i really believe more than now that the women in this competition stand no chance once the weekly voting out of one person per week commences

i see a possibility of having maybe one woman reach the final six, and it's either the woman simon calls "france" or the woman who has a vocal coach for a mom...the two teenage girls are cute and very advanced for their age but they will not be able to keep up with even the weakest of the remaining male singers

i don't know what happened this year in the auditions but there are certainly no kelly clarkson or fantasia level singers among the women

talent plays a secondary role to popularity and that is the best chance of a woman winning this year...a couple of the male singers who are really good and potential winners lack charisma

hey, where is everybody? ;)

well in the top 12 in general, i don't agree with america voting out gideon and sway, but i don't think either had a chance of winning american idol

...of the top six women left, i think nobody showed that they were abosulutely going to sail to the next round

i think this competition is hicks' to lose and i think ace got in on his looks more than anything else (like justin from season 1)

the final four will probably all be men this season unless some of the women step up in a way we have not seen yet

He is one pulsating nerve cell and may be done in by some of his annoying actions. Jimmy Kimmel showed a funny clip of exaggerated contortionist moves being done by Hicks while singing Elton John's "Levon." My sister was over yesterday and I showed her the Kimmel segment ... she laughed so much and had me play it back 5 times. I agree Ace is the clear heartthrob this season. How long will the female fan base keep him and his falsetto afloat? Does he have an ace up his sleeve ... stay tuned.

Among the top 6 women, Katharine McPhee and Kellie Pickler are my favorites. Mandisa did a very good job with "I'm Every Woman." I am thrilled that the woman who thought she delivered a powerhouse performance singing Donna Summer's "Last Dance" got her ticket back home. She was so egotistical and arrogant and butchered that song in a way that was painful and embarrassing to listen to.

Had to work on Thursday, so I missed the voting.

What I did see or hear (been busy) on Tuesday and Wednesday; I thought the men rocked over the women. The women sounded like some K-Tel rip off compared to the originality of "familiar" tunes of the men.

It is hard to deal with his Stevie Wonder "act"; but Hick's has a different sound that the "new majority" can love. But hell I loved the crooner from last season.

I am trying to recall who that was ... Anthony Fedorov? This season I find myself quickly pressing the mute button on my remote every time Paula chimes in with more of her useless and repetitive drivel. How many more times will she deliver something along these lines: "You are wonderful, a real talent and I love you. Follow your dreams, follow what is in your heart. You are a true star with millions of fans ... soon you will performing before huge crowds at concerts and there will be a recording deal, with millions of CDs sold."

Yada, yada, yada.

Wow, I really disagree with a lot that's being said.

For one, I thought Fantasia was way overrated, and shouldn't have won. There were 3 or 4 others better than her by far.

As far as this year, I disagree with the men v. women thing. I think there are 5 girls that are better than ANY of the guys, and they have way more personality too.

But, that's why they vote.
To each his (or her) own.

I also thought Fantasia was overrated. She had her moments as others did, but I was a Diana fan and still feel that when she performed "Don't Cry Out Loud" the night producer Clive Davis was a guest judge, it was the best single performance I heard to date.

This season there are several women who could win, but a few male contenders are going to be tough and will remain highly competitive. The public can be so unpredictable that one never knows what will prove to be decisive in the voting patterns. Simon's words (for better or worse) influence far more people than Randy or Paula, but even some of the luster on his crown is showing signs of wearing off. Sometimes when he is unduly harsh, the person being roasted gets a sizable sympathy bounce.

Simon gives, Simon gets

After his performance yesterday during a show that had all contestants singing a Stevie Wonder song, 16-year old Kevin Covais was panned by Simon Cowell. After the harsh critique in which Simon said Wonder would have definitely turned down the volume on his TV, Kevin took Cowell's best shot and then icily glared back at him saying, "I wasn't expecting very much from you."

For me it was the sweet spot of the evening having a person reply sharply, as opposed to just being another silent sacrificial lamb. Sometimes Simon deserves a pie in the face ... where are the Soupy Sales wannabes when they are really needed?

Two Degrees of Taylor Hicks

I was talking to my brother (who is also a musician) and it turns out that he played on one of Taylor Hicks' CDs back in the 90's. I knew that my brother knew Taylor, but I didn't know that he'd actually worked with him.

The voting should get interesting soon, as they've almost weeded out all of the less talented singers. As far as the guys go, I think Kevin (a.k.a. "Chicken Little"), Bucky and Elliott will be among the next to leave. For the girls, it's tougher to say, because to me all six of the remaining girls are pretty good. I have a hunch that Kellie and Melissa will be on their way out soon.
