You and your wife both made the decision to install the Tile app. Therefore, you chose to be tracked in this manner, even if in your example you slipped a Tile into her car. Shame on her, I guess. But the point is, you have to have the Tile app. Throw a Tile into her car without her having the app, and it's basically useless.

But that's not what we're talking about here with Apple Tags. You even correctly point out that Apple has a far larger ecosystem, and so is able to leverage that for extreme accuracy and ease of use. Basically, anyone who has an iPhone. And that wouldn't necessarily require having an app. I'm not sure if you're being intentionally disingenuous (it sounds to me like you're mocking the situation), but it's a legitimate concern, no matter how funny or smug you want to be about it.

I'm not sure why people are so fascinated with these. Seriously, how many people actually bought and used these things?
No one, until the Apple rumor mill churned out some hits about competiting in the category.

All this does is make me want Apple’s tags more. If Apple’s solution using UWB requires no charging or stays charged for multiple years and is very small and thin, they it will address every issue I’ve had with Tile. I think Tile will be dead in the water.

All signs pointed to an imminent announcement before the last event. Have their been any rumors as to why it was held back? Technical issues like AirPower?
All signs? There were zero signs, just last minute rumors. We could get tiles or we could never get titles. Rumors are not facts and you guys put way too much creedance in Apple hitting unspecified launch dates for products that aren't even announced.

It's a legitimate concern. Or you're just paranoid. One could even go as far as wonder what YOU have to hide to spend so much time worrying about this.

You do realize there already are myriads of ways to be tracked?

Ok, what do you suggest to do about that? How do you suggest implementing safeguards? But maybe you just keep resorting to calling other comments "stupid".

lol, gotta love the old "maybe it's you who has something to hide" type replies. How original.

For the record, I have nothing to hide.

And I literally just gave suggestions in my previous posts. Maybe you should read them first (or the thread) before commenting.

I travel extensively, Tile has let me down on several occasions. This is a no brainer for my checked Luggage.

That is my use case.. maybe slip one into my Powerbeats case as well if it fits.. who knows

Keep "lol"ing all you want, your form of discussion tells a lot about you.

Anyway, if you have such trust issues, maybe you should work on your marriage and don't put the burden of fixing your marriage on some company. People who have such trust issues already have means of tracking their partners. They don't need Apple to start selling some trackers.

I'm pretty sure there are already laws in place that prevent tracking from say bosses/coworkers, if that's what you're concerned about.

And as for your suggestions. I read all your previous posts. I did not see actual suggestions. Just complaining of others being smug. Unless your suggestion is to tie the AppleTracker to an actual App like the Tile, where the other party needs to install the App first for this to work.

No matter how you twist it, you're making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I didn't?

Apple will have to implement safeguards to prevent privacy abuses like this. Maybe something like you getting a notification on your phone if a nearby Apple Tag -- that is not your own -- is detected repeatedly over time. Obvious examples that are ripe for privacy invasion are cars, coats, and hand bags.

It's right there.

Anyway, if you have such trust issues, maybe you should work on your marriage and don't put the burden of fixing your marriage on some company.

Also, I'm not married, so... I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you should presume a little less about others, and engage in discussion for the sake of discussion, not attacking.

It depends if it's UWB and BLE or just UWB. I would think it was BLE-enabled just so they could sell to a bigger market, but who knows until it's released?

If it's just UWB it's DOA. UWB is only relevant within about 10 metres.

Tile is worthless - this reminds me to cancel my membership. What good is trying to locate something that you believe to be lost, if it’s only possibility of being found is if it’s lost within bluetooth range? And knowing it’s most recent location from weeks ago is pretty worthless as well.

Tile has sold more than 15 million units. I've owned a few versions of Tile for the last several years. The one that loops onto your keyring.

I have misplaced my keys a few times, but that's not the entire use case. I find it extremely useful to use Tile in "reverse" to ping my phone, which gets misplaced far more often than my keys. I haven't used the wallet-shaped Tile Slim yet.

Any family with small children would easily find value in sticking a Tile to the TV remote. I can't tell you how many times our kids have buried remotes under blankets and the couch.

I am a big BIG believer in tile and have been using it for the past 5 years. It's been a life saver, the only problem i had was that the build quality caused the speaker to fail so i can't hear it. Other than that, it's been gettinge better and better.

I do. I keep some luggage at temporary luggage storage at the airport. It's neat that I can track the luggage's location when I'm hundreds of miles away even though Tile only has bluetooth (through community tracking)

About the size of a quarter, the Tile Sticker is the company's smallest tracker to date,
About the size of a stack of quarters...

I think tile still has a place in this word but I do believe that how Apple does their location tracker could be game changer. With the number iphones in this world, what I want is ability for devices to track all locations of all these items anonymously so that if a item is lost outside of the range, other people can unconsciously help to track the item.

This is simliar to how Tile does it and i think their issue is that there isn't enough users.

This is the potential power of Apple making similar devices. The rumors are that the Apple device will be able to send out a constant beacon signal that ANY Apple device within range will get and report back to the server. This beacon will not contain any identifying information but will be coded so that the server can report back to you. So, with all of the Apple devices in the world, especially in the United States, you will have a very good chance of having your "tag" in range of one at any given time. This will report to you the general location. Once you arrive at that location, the UWB chip kicks in and guides you to the precise location.

Now thats would be cool

Tracking will rely on the cooperation of other Apple product owners. Which mobile devices support UWB?

I also wonder if those zealous about privacy won't trust the monitoring, and will resent being used as an access point for others. Will there be an option to opt out of the network?

Facts, Android is the majority. They can completely survive with that market alone

Fine, but these would be for Apple users, mostly, and would likely have better features. From a security standpoint if nothing else.
