I loved this (and so much more):

"Intent is a part of Face ID, as well. If your phone notices that you’re not looking at it, it will dim the screen faster than normal in order to save battery. If an alert comes in and you look at your phone, it will tone down the alert sound because it “knows” it got your attention. Good stuff. My only complaint is when he talked about performance:

The reception is still fairly poor in many areas of the park and the radio goes to seek a lot inside rides

I'd love to know if he was using the model with the Intel or Qualcomm modem. A bit geeky maybe but he is writing for TechCrunch not USA Today.

Well early in the vid you can see he's using verizon as his carrier, which means the phone has a qualcomm modem.

Not sure why the notch annoys some people so much.

There's going to be space next to the camera/sensors/etc. You can choose to use it (make it part of the display) or just have it be dead space.

I think the proper decision was made.

Except it has severe usability issues, especially when in landscape mode. Jobs never would have allowed it. Remember how precise he was for things when he was in charge? He'd throw it out and not release it until it was done right.

First of all, if someone's going to do a video on an iPhone X, why can't they film it without being blurry? That's ridiculous. The notch is such a non-issue, even at the 3m29s mark.

The same reason I don’t like curved “edge” displays, 120hz soap opera TVs, or plugging in a mouse from the bottom: It’s bad design.

I will be viewing pictures and videos at nearly the same size as my four year old, $650 iPhone 6....all because of the decision to go with an assymetrical display.

Love iOS, Android isn’t an option. I wanted the Plus screen on a phone similar to the 6 design. That didn’t happen. I loved my Plus when I had one, but couldn’t deal with its size.

Oh well, better luck next time.

120hz displays are superb. Their primary purpose is nothing to do with the soap opera frame insertion nonsense (which you can turn off, by the way). But... I can’t really be bothered to go there.

What I take from this video and the Indian's unboxing which someone posted above is that:

Face ID has its limits
The notch is s.h.i.t.house
The back is a finger print magnet
And that same boring grid of apps that we have seen for 10 years and cannot do anything about is still there.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Apple's special edition 10 year anniversary iphone.

Bring on 2018 already.

Great review.

I was one of those Face ID naysayers, and this review has changed my mind somewhat about it. I’m still not convinced it’s as fast or convenient as Touch ID, but he did a great job highlighting the benefits and potential of the facial recognition camera, so much so that I am willing to overlook the inconveniences.

Looking forward to my unit!

Great review, except when he got to the notch. I was so irked by Apple’s reasoning to include a notch, that I stopped reading the article. Jobs would have turned red in the face and stormed out of the room with the bullcrap defense they gave.

Sounds like a personal problem.
