This is very true! On android phones you can almost always run the latest version, but it's always a 3rd party distribution put together by... Who knows? And even the larger ones that are legit, like cyanogen mod, don't always work as well as you'd expect because of things like using a baseband driver that came with the oem 4.2 rom in android 4.4, and then using the camera driver from 4.1 because samsungs goofy code doesn't work in 4.4 unless you have the Verizon note 2 and if you have that one, you can't use cyanogen mod but there's a miui hack job made by this dude named toiApplesuxxor927482 that works awesome! Unless you use 64gb micro sd, in which case your phone will crash every time you open gmail after going to google on chrome.

Ok none of that is exactly true, but I think it fairly reflects my experience with a note 2 lol
hahaha. Somewhat true man once you get into custom ROMs. Lot of fun, but you gotta keep up with all the devs. There is a good reason XDA always has some 40,000 to 60,000 people on that site at any given time. :D. But I love it. It keeps me not bored.

Nonsense. There is no fragmentation after 4.3.

I've had an LG G2 for a year and it's running as smooth as when it came out of the box.

Can't say the same for my iPhone 4s. Runs like crap on iOS 7.

I have had the G2 for a year as well (never owned an iPhone). My phone is noticeably very sluggish very often. It's to the point where typing text will lag sometimes and I have to wait for the phone to catch up.

Right. But don't you see the generalization you are making here. Or are you too blinded? You called the guy a liar, which is completely not warranted.

I simply pointed out that his device, just like my parents, may not run ios 7 well. I am not saying that all will run crappy, but some may. I also have 3 devices running Android. One is laggy sometimes and I do flash new ROMs on it often and tweak it a ton, 2 are not and run perfectly. Again, can't generalize. Each device is different slightly and those slight differences can make a world of difference in how well or not something runs a standardized OS.

Good grief man.

See how agitate you get when I make the same generalisations...?? Ahhh it's so much better to throw than to take...

Anyways moving on...

On a side note maybe you should have just tried a fresh install on your parents phone and set it up as new... OS updates on older devices generally need that to sort it out... I fact my 4S ran the OTA update of ios8 like ****... It is a hell lot better once I did a fresh set up as new through iTunes...

I think that's the problem people encountered updating to iOS 7, most people updated instead of doing a fresh install. That happens with most os' (even computers) when a complete UI redesign takes place.
My mother in law has ios7 on her 4 and she doesn't have any issues with it but I also did a fresh install for her.

That's by and large incorrect. Sure *very* occasionally people can experience issues with OTA upgrades but in the vast majority of cases they install with no problems. With regard to the iPhone 4, I did three fresh installs for my father and he has no apps on there other than the included stock ones...and that phone is sloooooow as all heck running iOS7. No amount of clean installs will make that phone run that o/s in anything like a satisfactory manner.

I have the same issue with my Droid Razr Maxx. If you haven't tried it already I would recommend clearing the cache. Not sure if it's the same for the G2, but restart the device and go into recovery mode, from there choose "wipe data cache" (?). This usually made my phone more responsive, at least for a couple days until I have to repeat the process. Really frustrating when trying to text and the phone lags, or worse when I can't even answer a call before it goes to missed call.

So far, the transition to my iPhone (6 Plus) from Android has been smooth. I did get confused on messages, somehow I sent my friend an email instead of an iMessage. I'm guessing this is operator error

I, too, am an Android and iOS user...have been for a long time now.

I agree on some points, while totally disagree on others.

The Note 3 doesn't feel cheap plasticky at all. It may be plastic, but it's very well put together, and nothing feels cheap about it. In fact, caseless, the Note 3 has a better grip and feel in the hand over the iP6+, imo.

I have ZERO lag on my Note 3 [ after 10 months ] and I normally don't even reboot it for days and weeks on end. Apps crashing on Android [ post 4.2.2 ] is just as good/bad on iOS.

Battery life on the Note 3 is also..insane! I'm a heavy user so I do charge overnight [ matter of habit too ] but for all the features the Note 3 [ and pretty much most Android mid-high end devices now ] has..the battery is nothing short of amazing!

The iP6+ is a great device, but it doesn't outright supersede the latest top-tier Android devices...lets be real!

Yeah lol, my first smartphone was an htc g2, and back then the custom Roms lead to dreams where I needed to call 911 and my phone would freeze up instead lol
Fun times

To the credit of the xda forum regulars, the jellybean rom for that phone was amazing given what they had to deal with
