I'm not going to knock it until I see it and I certainly don't mind having new processors.

I honestly don't understand why people are getting so pissed. Apple is all about innovation and Intel is a company that is just innovating better than IBM is.

I also live in Oregon, so I'm partial to Intel as a local company. :D

Count me out of your little club. I'm excited about this news if it means we'll get to run OS X on even faster hardware with better battery life (Powerbooks obviously).

What exactly did you think the original philosophy of Apple was, anyway? "We'll do everything ourselves"? I hope you realize your current Mac ALREADY has Intel chips and controllers in it.

Have fun developing your own systems from scratch. It only took Apple, what, 20 years to perfect OS X? See you in 2025.

MSNBC is saying this will happen :D :D :) Its about freakin time we had a real CPU instead of slow and stagnated G4s/G5s. This could be the best news yet! Imagine running the best OS on the fastest hardware. Fantastic!

dual 2.7 is no slower than the dual 3.6 xeons

Having heard all the rumors about switching to the x86 Platform from the PPC platform, We, The Users of Mac OS Equipped Systems do hereby declare that if such a switch does occur, We will not be joining. We will develop our own systems using the original philosophy of Apple. Intel is not and cannot be a friend to Apple. They will destroy Apple as they have Be before them. x86 is part of the reason for Windows instability, as well as horrid up times of x86 Systems. You do this, across the board, and you will loose whatever current market-share (read: Yearly Sales) you currently hold.

Just a Word of Warning Mr. Jobs, and everyone at Apple. Switch to Intel and see an empty building in Cupertino in less than 5 years.

Easy Tiger! Nothing has been announced yet, just rumors. The rumors might be to burn a fire under Motorola and IBM's butt in developing faster chips.
Im known to fly off the handle too, but wait to see wat info is obtained from WWDC.

Its defin. NOT a Jew conspiracy :) puckhead193 & mad jew
well.. not until we start seeing little stickers that say "Kabbalah Inside" or the next gen. of macs named Oy!mac :D

Not to be utterly offensive or anything, but do you ever go outside?

Furthermore, where did you get the idea that x86 is responsible for Windows bugs? I think its archaic and a move from RISC to CISC would be utterly stupid (and thus, I am 100% sure that we will not see an "Apple on x86" talked about tomorrow), but I'm not about to say that Intel isn't a great manufacturer. They just happen to have marginalized Apple in the past by taking advantage of the Megahertz myth...

I think if the move happens we'll again see stagnation, because now Intel can hold Apple by the balls. Doing the switch is a slap in the face to IBM, they dont take kindly to that. Also, if Intel pulls the its too difficult game it wont hurt their sales on the PC side, nor their stock price either. But come what come may, I still dont think I'm ready to hear it from Jobs' mouth.

i hope hell does not freeze over AGAIN. if it does happen, i would be darth screaming "NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"

there has been reports that the x86 architecture is on its last legs. please don't ask for links, i have read it a few times somewhere  if the x86 architecture is SOOOO good, then why is M$ using PPC for the new xbox? and Sony too... would that be logical?

Developing a new system is a waste of time (unless we are talking about Amiga). Just write more software for Solaris instead.

Thank you for assuming the entire Mac community chose you as their spokesperson

In a rebuttal to this, a move to Intel processors would be HIGHLY beneficial. It's no secret Intel's processors have been superceding IBM's processors in not only the areas of speed and performance, but also architecture. If you think about it, it's a logical business move on Apple's part.

I do not know who (or how) someone posted the above tripe under my account, but have taken steps to prevent it (including a new password). I will leave it here because I agree with one statement in it... That is: x86 is a horrible processor architecture, hopefully Apple will just switch everything to IA-64, so Intel has somewhere to finally sell their Itainium-2 Chips.
Also, it is IBM's fault this is happening, they made grandiose promises to Steve, who then made those same promises to us. IBM never delivered, and Steve looked like a lying ****** (read: Bill Gates). Therefore, although I wish this didn't have to happen, it only figures that it would.

This should help the notebooks improve power, speed, and performance. I'd like to see AMD as a partner also. So, will we be seeing macs with the Intel inside logo? The Powerbook Centrino? It seems really strange to see that typed.
