I believe the 3 other icons are self-explanatory, but the interesting part about the phone icon is that it has a 1 on it.

What does this mean? We all know Apple carefully sends hidden messages through their invites. We've seen that this year for Mac To the Mac, iPad 2 event and now the iPhone event.

So what does the "1" mean?

Could it be Apple's spot in the smartphone industry?
Apple's main focus?
Adding one new carrier?
One global phone?

No, i think Apple just squished all the rumors we've been hearing about 2 new iPhones, with that "1" notification.
And unfortunately, since no iPhone 5 were found in the supply lines.. we might be just seeing an iPhone 4S. This way Apple has quickly told us what to expect, so that the event doesn't be a disappointment.

For me, it'll be a disappointment if it's an iPhone 4S. So the main question is, is the "1" phone an iPhone 4S or an iPhone 5?

Thoughts?

In the iPhone event on october 4th, the Phone icon has a "1." What do you think that means?

I think it means there's going to be a lot more than 1 of these threads made in the next 5 minutes

Normally that means you have 1 missed call, 1 voice mail, etc.
Here, give me your phone number and I'll call and hang up. You'll see it then.

I think it means there's one phone, a full "5", that they are introducing, instead of having a "4S" and "5" type deal.

On a side note, I swear Apple has the best marketing team ever, creating hype like no other company can. :D

I think you confused "hidden" with "not so subtle and actually extremely obvious"

Learning from past experience its probably nothing. Just a nod to the notification system which is new...

"1" means another next generation iPhone 5.

because 4 icons + 1 notification = 5 right? :p

Just to be clear, when i say iPhone 5, i expect something like this:

When i say iPhone 4S, i expect something like this:

I guess it is a possibility but that seems wrong because that is how their original notification have been working for years and that is an iOS5 thing. iPhone will be the star next week not iOS5, it had it's own event a while ago.

I hope you're right. I think we're all pulling for that.

Yeah sure...I'm sure 100% sure that they will introduce new iPhone 5 (thinner, bigger & even faster)

And also iPhone 4G which is minor upgrade compare to iPhone 4

It's time to say bye to iPhone 3G(S)

Apple would look stupid if they waited 16 months to release a slightly upgraded iPhone 4.

Personally I think all these "4S" photos and accounts we've seen have just been test devices for the 5 hidden in 4 cases. Much like how car manufacturers will put the old body on a new platform during testing, to try to hide what they're up to. The iPhone 4 testing fiasco probably led Apple to do this.

It's easy, I figured it out. The Oct 4th and the Phone +1 notification implies 4+1 which equals 5. So, if my math is correct, and it always is, 5 is something we should expect, like the iPhone 5. You're welcome.

Well is there any number to put instead of 1 that is more relevant?

Most people usually get a notification and check it. So there is a 1 there. But its still a nod to notifications. Because that is a big part of what iOS does now and its a selling point.

What else should they have put? A 2? a 5? A realistic 8?

On the other hand I'm sure who ever designed this had to know that it would be mysterious and let it be so on purpose...
