Well, if there's a voluntary recall and the fix can be installed into existing handsets, I have a feeling there will be plenty of iPhone 4's in the Apple Refurb Store very soon.

Should we start collecting quotes from all the people in the forums of people saying "There won't be a recall people, keep dreaming."?

This will be a very interesting press conference tomorrow.

If they do a recall, I'm really interested to see what Apple's response will be for why they lied about the issue and told people to hold it differently when they knew this was an issue.

Let me guess: They were stunned to discover it.

There won't be a recall, keep dreaming. Just do the numbers.

Count up all the iPhone 4s in the wild, then take in to account that to order a new one now would take 3 weeks. Add a spoonful of maxed out production and tell me where all of these replacements will come from.

about that full-refund...

Think i'll be turning mine back into AT&T and getting that full-refund which was promised. Probably be quicker than dealing with the recall process.

Well, I'd just like to say, if there is a recall I sure hope all those who've been arguing with myself and many others over the last couple of weeks about there being "no issue" and having "perfect phones", telling us to get a life and stop being "haters" and making s**t up - stay the hell away from the recall and let the rest of us get our phones replaced. Thank you.

Why are people hating the article? This is a news/rumours site and any rumorus should be treated as.... Rumours?

If it comes true then, great! Issue acknowledged and fixed.

(Excuse the British spelling)

Can I reply back to Steve Jobs' email to me which said "Non Issue. Just try holding it differently" with "Umm - so now what you're saying is that it WAS an issue?"

LOL, the naysayers naysay till the bitter end...

Apple needs to pump their brakes just a little, maybe their shareholders can get Jobs to retire that iPad from heckling his customers. Progress is good, change is better. Can't wait to take back this problematic :apple:phone again.

:apple:
thinking now...

I demand an apology tomorrow.

And then I expect a recall so I can replace my defective phone.

That's all I ask for. Let's move on.

An internal insulator, when the problem is the conductive antenna OUTSIDE the phone? How could an internal insulator insulate the phone from the user?

How does that even make any sense? I wouldn't believe this guy at all.

Could be trying to drive the stock down before the press conference to make a quick buck.

Same Dbag who claimed of verizon Ipad in Jan 2010 and t-mobile iphone in July 2010

I think this is the same guy claiming a Verizon announcement at WWDC. This guy's track record is about as good as the Cubs winning the World Series.

Great news, will remove all defects, plus a scratch that I already have on the screen.
I think it will be voluntary recall same as they had with usb power connector. Cant wait for tomorrow.

If this is true I'm glad Apple may back their product. What about those of us who put a $30.00 invisible shield on our iPhone 4's and then exchange it? Will they give us money back for the shields? Or do you think there could be an in store fix too? That is if there is a voluntary recall and everything.

So what about the rumours about the non-conductive antenna on Page 2? I can't imagine Apple having two different fixes for the issue! Also, how would internal insulation protect from your finger connecting the external, uninsulated antennas?

This perhaps does square with the reports that either insulating the SIM contacts OR using a case can alleviate the issue, suggesting a more complex "short circuit" than just one antenna to the other. (If you've ever seen an old car with its headlights flashing in time to its indicator lights you have seen a similar issue, for example).

If it is true Apple is having a slight hardware redesign, I'm wondering how they will implement it to the millions that have already bought the iPhone. I'm guessing you could take it back to an Apple store and get a replacement, but I bought mine at an ATT store and there is no Apple store within 2 hours of me. Could I exchange it at an ATT store I wonder?

Also, it would suck if it takes more than a day to get you a new phone, since I need my phone and can't just not have it for a week or two.

So replacing existing iphones seems like a logistical nightmare to me.

To my knowledge, Kumar hasn't ever said anything about a T-Mobile iPhone, although several others have.

And Kumar was far from the only one who got the Verizon iPad claim wrong...there seems to be more to the story of how that carrier decision went down than we know. It certainly would have been better if he'd been right, but based on the number of claims of a Verizon iPad, it's possible that the rumors may have been true at the time they surfaced but that things changed over time.

Kumar also claimed a $600-$800 price range for the iPad, which was closer than some, many of whom were saying close to $1000. It did get Bluetooth keyboard support as he claimed, although it didn't get native Bluetooth mouse support.

Obviously can't say for certain whether Kumar knows what he's talking about, and Moritz (the report's author) has a terrible reputation (although he's just relaying info here), but he's been better than some in recent history.

If Apple issues a recall for affected devices, my question is how long will it take to swap my recalled one for a new one? and how can I guaranty that I receive a new unit and not a refurbished iphone, and what about credit from ATT for the days that I am without the device. Hmmmm...

If he is right...

I dont think a recall would be necessary and would be mandated. I think one of the two might happen for already sold iphone4s with signal problems:

(1) an appointment with the technician at the apple store where they would add this "internal bumper" and give you the repaired piece back, or
(2) replace the piece with a new piece, like how they replace a faulty one.

#2 is less likely given the demand and the production delays, but i guess we will hear about it tomorrow, huh!

I have to question the veracity of this report, if only because it is tied to the silly Verizon rumour - Apple will not be rolling out a CDMA-only phone for reasons that are best explained here. This "analyst" has no track record to speak of, yet he's quoted on an event which we all know we will know nothing about until Mr. Jobs speaks.

I guess anybody with an apple-crate to stand on and a loud enough voice is now considered an analyst? Here's my opinion, and I am just as qualified an analyst as this guy. Steve Jobs will address a problem with the iPhone 4 antenna tomorrow, no specific remedy will be announced before then. Period. Full Stop. Anything else I could say would be speculation and poor journalism - appropriate for the pages of the Enquirer, not MacWorld.

Whatever happened to Editors?

Sincerely, I mean, WTF?

dmz

I put my iphone in an igloo cooler and it works great.

I like the sound of this idea, but if this is a guy pushing the idea of a Verizon iPhone any time soon, he is likely wrong about everything, so this should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Yeah I suspect they would have some way to send the phone in or leave it at an Apple store to get it updated with the bumper so you get your same phone back. Or you can just swap your phone out for a refurb with a bumper already in it. Then they take the phones those people put in, but the bumpers on them and swap them out to other people.

A recall seems unnecessary to handle this if it is even true.

And I demand a cookie from you.
You can return the phone if you so choose.

I mean I understand the problem is annoying (more so with people on the street keep asking/TELLING you that your phone has issues) but really, DEMANDING an apology like they just killed your pet rock.

Demand an apology from BP anyone? gosh people put things into perspective.....
