The debate over just what Apple will be introducing for its revamped iPhone lineup over the coming weeks is continuing to rage, and J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz has weighed in claiming that the company will indeed be introducing two models: a redesigned iPhone 5 and a cheaper "iPhone 4-plus" focused on the Chinese market but also available elsewhere.
J.P.Morgan's research suggests the iPhone 5 will be based on a lighter, thinner form factor that is GSM and CDMA capable. In other words, a "world-mode" smartphone, but not LTE-capable. Mr. Moskowitz also expects the iPhone 5 will have a larger retina display [than] the iPhone 4?s 3.5 inch screen and include an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash.

The iPhone 4-plus device is anticipated to be based on the current iPhone and subsume the iPhone 3GS as the lower-end offering. Mr. Moskowitz thinks it could target one or more network carriers in China, but is unlikely to be exclusive to the region.
The only concrete evidence of a redesigned iPhone 5 has come in the form of third-party cases based on a claimed leaked design document for the device. Numerous parts for an iPhone 4-like "iPhone 4S" have surfaced over the past several months, leading some to wonder whether Apple will be releasing both models, and if not, which of the two will be the iPhone 5.

Fueling the uncertainty is that fact that some analysts have seen no sign of a redesigned iPhone 5 in Apple's supply chain, while other sources including Moskowitz maintain that Apple will indeed be launching two separate models.

Hopefully Apple will send out the invites this week. Especially since they're resetting iCloud also.

How to make an apple rumor:

LATE BREAKING NEWS ON THE iPHONE 5...(copy and paste any rumor from the past 5 weeks here.. be sure not to provide any new information).

I'm surprised we are almost at the end of September and no announcement or invitations have been sent out. You have to wonder if there has been a delay or if they plan on launching the phone the same week as the announcement.

I would assume that pic is an iPhone 4plus then? I thought it was pretty solid that the button will be wider and the screen will be bigger on the 5. That screen and button are iPhone 4. But it is thin. So, pointless rendering?

Now that whole 4s thing makes some more sense to me I didnt see the point in apple making a cheaper 4 because they usually just drop the price anyways and still the 3GS doesnt sell too bad, but with it being geared towards China it makes sense

I'm thinking there is going to be a new design and they will keep the iPhone4 the same (maybe A5 chip). If there is a new design, I just hope that they don't put the iPod touch-like buttons on there... They are not that easy to push compared to the iPhone4 ones.

Sorry MacRumors, I call foul on this rumor. All this guy did is recycle and regurgitate the same rumors we have been talking about for months. Just because he works on Wall Street and wears a suit doesn't mean this is somehow notable.

Bottom line, this guy has nothing new to say. I guess he's too busy crashing the economy to do any real investigative journalism about what the iPhone 4s/5 may or may not have.

Analyst = i have no idea but i'm just gonna throw out my opinion

this is getting so annoying, every "analyst" says something else

Hopefully Apple will send out the invites this week. Especially since they're resetting iCloud also.

Judging by the sudden and extreme increase in the Apple stock today, I would say that this is VERY likely. Wall Street insiders normally have much more insight than the general public.

Are there any analysts left that have not made an iphone prediction? Sheesh, enough already.

Can someone please explain all the talk of the iPhone in China ? This has popped up in quite a few stories recently. Yet the iPhone already is in China...

What's so special about this ?

Am I the only one who thinks we will see only one new iPhone - the iPhone 5 and one new iPod Touch (possibly with an ear speaker for VOIP over Wi-Fi) ?? I just don't see Apple releasing two new phones and causing more confusion in the product line.

Why is that mockup changed? Looks like a much smaller screen (close to the current size). The area by the home button actually looks LARGER than on the current phone. That design with the smaller screen looks BAD.

I'm a little concerned that we haven't seen any part leaks for a significantly redesigned iPhone.

Perhaps the iPhone 5 it's the LTE version that launches next spring? And the iPhone 4s is a stopgap. Or perhaps the iPhone 5 is a high-end "Pro" line that will launch later alongside the iPhone 4.
