However, i was not impressed with the os - think it was jelly belly fudge sandwich, or something equally ridiculous..

Remember what you used was Samsung's idea of what Android should be. You don't have to run that if you don't want. Change the launcher, change the lockscreen, disable whichever apps/features you don't want, and you're away. You can do all that via the Play Store/Settings - no rooting, no hacking, no manual file edits, just the equivalent "App Store" and Settings.

If Apple managed to come out with a slightly larger screen, and massively catch up with iOS7, I'll be back in an instant for that build quality.

Android does more, iOS looks nicer. It's a personal decision.

I think if they don't change the screen size Apple have their head in the sand..

They will not change the screen size. It's plenty big enough now. Let Samsung have the phone that you have to hold in two hands....

Increasing the screen size defeats the legacy of Jobs.

He worked hard to create a cadre of minions that act like he programmed them to. Free thinking is prohibited, you _will_ buy what Apple sells & like it :)

Well same screen size sucks! Even if we got rid of the damn border on the screen and made the screen edge to edge it would be better. I guess we'll be waiting until the next model to finally get a larger screen (yeah taller screen is good, but now we need to make it wider). And lets do something about the glass edge around the screen, it gets really ugly on the edge if it hits the floor and suffers some damage.

LOL at your statement. If people hate to hold their phone in two hands, then Galaxy Note and the recent 5" Full HD phones shouldn't had sold to anyone.

Smartphones are far more than just a cell phone now. They are media player, PSP and cell phone all into one. They are the reasons why many people choose to have a large smartphone.

Fingerprint tech is going to piss off older people because as we age, our fingerprints get much less well defined.

The tech that Apple bought reads through several layers of skin and is not impacted by surface abrasions or fingerprint "fading."

I agree that the 5S won't have a larger screen. I'll even go so far as to say they needn't have bothered with stretching the screen in the first place. Even after all this time, it just looks out of proportion and makes nothing larger, which is what you want out of a larger screen.

Does anyone else find this ridiculous ?

So apparently the Mini will have the same size screen actually have a larger body. And yet it's called the Mini.

What a load of...

Actually, it's called the iPhone Purple, even though it comes in every color but purple.

How do I know it's called the iPhone Purple? Because I just called it that.

Respectfully disagree. Here are the product lines Apple maintained in Jobs' absence during the 1980s-1990s:

Apple IIe/IIc/IIc Plus/IIe Platinum
Apple IIGS
Macintosh
Macintosh II/LC
Apple LaserWriter
Apple StyleWriter
Apple Scanner
Apple FaxModem
AppleVision Monitor

What is today's product matrix?

Mac
iPad
iPhone
iPod
Accessories

So your list includes only three lines during Steve Jobs absence:

Apple computer (various models)
Macintosh (various models)
Accessories (Scanner/Faxmodem/Monitor/Printer)

Really not impressive at all.

If you have baby hands I guess. When iphone gets at least 4.5 (not just stretching it) I will be back, it's just too small for me right now......and it's hard to tell sarcasm from a keyboard.

For me 4.5 is the sweet spot for a phone, I think my fingers are too big (thick) and make typing on smaller difficult.

I'm making the jump to the HTC One. Have mine on preordered! The iPhone was great, but it's become boring. New and better iOS, Bigger screen, new look... and I will be back. I'll bet the 6 will be something worth getting. At least I hope so, for Apple's sake.

LOL. Except for the bigger screen size, it looks almost exactly like an iPhone. Apparently, HTC missed its release data because of manufacturing problems. Have fun.

That is because Apple didn't stretch the width with the iPhone 5 just the length. If it increases size again, it undoubtedly will stretch the width. I see Apple increasing the size, but not with the next update. Apple actually puts thoughts into these things, which takes time.

I expect it will be optional like current the current password system is.

Not at least offering a larger screen is a serious, serious mistake IMO: Even with the iPhone 5, typing and navigating with man-sized hands is severely hindered compared to some android phones. Even holding a bare iPhone is not a pleasurable experience: it's so narrow and thin it constantly tries to slip out of your hands, and the edges are sharp so they don't really fit into a cupped human hand very well. (It IS gorgeous though).

I don't buy the argument that anything wider than the current screen is too big: PLENTY of tiny handed people are perfectly happy with their giant android screens.

I stuck with Apple for one more go-round with the iPhone 5 purely because of the money I've sunk into the app ecosystem: I'm not satisfied with the hardware (nor the outdated iOS software) at all.

When my next upgrade rolls around, I simply can't justify another 18-24 months with a phone I don't actually want. Apple will lose my business if they continue to defy consumer trends, simple as that.

There are ways around app fragmentation, just like with the iPhone 5: letterbox the borders for apps that are not optimized....and the free market will sort out the rest. If developers can't be bothered to update and optimize their app...as they say in academia, "Publish or perish". I found alternatives to apps that refused to optimize to the iPhone 5 screen within a reasonable time just fine, and apps that I cannot live without will at least still be usable.

And in case anyone is taking this seriously: Apple- Type III anodizing. Come on, get your act together. I recently had to have my phone replaced due to a faulty camera, and within two weeks living in a leather sleeve and being babied, the edges are scuffed and chipped like nobody's business. The screen scratches much, much, much easier than my iPhone 4 too.

At least your taxes go to healthcare, education, etc. A typical undergraduate/university degree ranges from $200,000-400,000 depending on the institution. That means loans with high interest rates, if you qualify in todays market. My friend married in the U.K., she paid £2000/yr for her Masters, making good money in London with her husband. I'm bitter.

I believe you, some U.S. universities have such high tuition, $80-100k+ /yr I can't understand how any 'average' income persons can afford to attend... and if they somehow borrow the money, it's a wonder how they can afford to pay it back in any reasonable length of time.

Hard drive capacity?!?

Any word on the hard drive capacity? My 64 GB iPhone 4s ran out of space so long ago, hoping for a 128/256/512 capacity!
