I'm curious what their overall marketshare is. Further, what is the tipping point where EVERYone starts buying macs?

-p-

Windows has 90% market-share, yet we still have people using alternative systems. So it hasn't reached it's tipping-point even at 90%. Since Macs are better than PC's, I think we could say that the tipping-point might be at around.... 80% for the Mac.

Marketshare

Windows has 90% market-share, yet we still have people using alternative systems. So it hasn't reached it's tipping-point even at 90%. Since Macs are better than PC's, I think we could say that the tipping-point might be at around.... 80% for the Mac.

Great sig! Keep in mind, when 1% of consumers buy a Mac, they are purchasing both an OS and a computer made by Apple, yet Apple's market-share rises only 1%. When purchasing a Dell, however, Dell's market-share rises 1% while MS's market-share also rises 1%, giving the illusion of 2% being taken away from Apple. Installed user base percentages can also be deceiving, since many consumers are using Windows and Mac simultaneously, more-so now with the advent of the Intel Mac, and more and more Windows users are using Linux while having Windows installed. Things are probably MUCH better percentage wise than they appear statistically, and will continue to grow exponentially with the iPod halo effect, retail stores' enormous volume of sales, Leopard's debut, new pro apps on the horizon, not to mention Vista's arrival. The iPhone will likely create yet another halo effect during the long term. As the Beatles would say: "Things Are Getting Better All The Time."

PC exchange

Brilliant! God, I hope that's true. It's too funny and clever not to be. :D

I can actually vouch for this in three separate cases - PC's given as gifts were returned and the refunds were used toward purchases of Macs. All three claimed to have wandered into an Apple store, and the rest was history. In NYC, the 59th street store is always hopping, even at 3:00 AM, drawing crowds 24/7. Many of them shop, others work on their term papers or surf the net - though it doesn't seem to take long to convince them........

100% Mac Sales year over year. Does that means Apple sold twice as many Mac's in the last 365 days than the previous 365?

These stories about our evangelical exploits are fascinating.

That's something no PC or Windows user ever does - they are the one's who always say 'it's just a computer'.

Mac users demand more than 'just a computer' - they have expectations which transcend it's basic functions - they expect an infusion of art and culture, technical excellence and plenty of visual folly's which bring cheer to their day!!.

I'm convinced this is why Mac users tend to be quite evangelical - because they recognise and are inspired by Apple's attempt towards greatness.

I think those 300 million contemporary and future mac users are the 'movers and shaker's of this world and if they each know 10 people and convert 2 then this thing is unstoppable now!!. The revolution is here!!!:D

Wow, mac grew in the face of vista, surprise surprise.
This does equate to market share increases right?
That's funny :p . It was Vista that pushed me to make up my mind to become a Mac owner. That, and Leopard, security, Boot Camp, etc.
I find it extremely aggravating that I can buy an entire new system, LCD, printer and all (including Vista Home Premium) for $599 (Can.) and to buy the upgrade version of Vista alone is $169 !!
What a rip-off. Oh, buy the way, that's for the 32-bit version only  .
Microsoft must think we're all idiots. Here's to you, Bill :apple:
Rant over....;)

That tipping point will never come, but it's not really about everyone using Macs. If enough people buy Macs (~10% I think), the Web and all sorts of software will very quickly start to go open standards rather than using Microsoft proprietary technologies that only work in Windows. Finally it won't matter which OS you use, you'll have real choice. Microsoft aren't going to disappear but they'll actually have to start working to keep their customers as Apple have to now, and Linux will become a real possibility for businesses.

If you think what happened to Intel when AMD came along, there was this sudden rush of advancement, which AMD then rushed to match and surpass. Imagine if that happens in software too.

I second that! People on the internet will be force to open up to other platforms. No more you need a PC running Win. XP and Freaking explorer 6 blahh. blah. blah.

My sales have been very good towards the end of last year and the beginning of this year. At the same time many 'new'/'switchers' are also buying Parallels (or asking about other VM Software) and or anticipating Boot Camp (with the release of Leopard) so that they can use Windows XP and or Vista.

I wonder if most of it happened after macworld, when people realized it'll probably be a few more months till anything major came out.

It actually played a role in me not upgrading my parents and grandparents to the new iLife. I want them to get the PHOTO CASTING feature so I can share my kids photos easier. I figured they would simply follow up that iPHONE announcement with the new version of iLife (like that imaginary FEB 20 date).

I suppose they aren't going to unleash any new software until Jaguar. OH WELL... I've waited this long. :(
