Looking back at all the analyst predictions and rumors regarding the iPhone X, I just have to laugh. Particularly when it comes to FaceID. They portrayed it as “Plan B”, chosen as late as three months ago, rushed to manufacturing, and then “de-tuned” to relieve production bottlenecks.

What a joke.

It’s quite obvious now that Apple worked long and hard to perfect FaceID. It’s brilliantly implemented, and has many, many advantages over TouchID, which was great in its own right.

The password security on my phone is practically invisible now. I no longer have to move my thumb to the sensor when unlocking, or launching a bank app, or sliding a notification. Wet or gloved hands are no longer an issue. Sure it’s not perfect, but it’s really really good.

There is no way in hell that Apple or anyone could have thrown this hardware and software together at the 11th hour.

Between this and the dire predictions of low stock levels, Apple had the last laugh over the analysts this year.

And this goes to show that when you are king of the heap, your enemies will do anything to knock you down.these things do real damage. There were people on these boards ready to toss Apple to the dogs. many people bought the 8 series due to the negativity.

Any look-alike person fools it or points it at your face (and you would without a doubt look at it).. it's fail-id.

LOL huh? If someone steals your phone they aren't going to stand there pointing it at your face holding u down to unlock it. You're living in a fantasy movie.

And look alikes are less than a 1 in 1,000,000 chance so Apple's number holds up.

Exactly. Even if by some strange event someone would steal your phone and stick it in front of your face to unlock it, what are they going to do with it? Read your texts or email? Cant use Apple Pay. They want to fully reset, good luck without your icloud password. Apple has pretty much made stealing their phone not worth the effort.

This is what I never understood when someone was seriously worried about that scenario.

So many people here were concerned about a thief grabbing your phone, shoving it in your face, and running away with it... for what reason? Might as well just grab the phone and run, and skip the risky FaceID unlock attempt at that point.

I heard a lot of this when TouchID first came out, too. “Someone might cut off your finger and use it to unlock your phone…”

Yet, Apple sold TouchID iPhones in droves, and the same will happen with FaceID, because it’s damn convenient and will very rarely be defeated.

Yea some criminal can cut off your head and use it to open your phone whenever they want. Very flawed.

Guys...wait...

Let’s the haters “hate”; the fake algorithms will ultimately fail. Time will prove the “X” a very good upgrade. I was conditioned that FaceID was bad. It recognized my face while I was wiping the screen with wet paper towels (its OK...I have a Zagg Glass+ screen protector)

Face IS is a 3 step process.

Step 1: touch or pick up your phone
Step 2: look at your phone, even if for a millisecond
Step 3: swipe up.

Even if the second step does not count because it's almost instantaneous, you still need to either tap and then swipe, or swipe if you're holding it.

Touch id requires one press of the home button. Be it on a table or holding it, it's one press.

So in what universe does that make it inferior to Face ID? As far as I'm concerned, one step is more seamless than a 2 or 3 step process.

Touch ID 1
Face ID 0

Secondly, a twin can fool face id, but it ain't fooling touch id. Oh yea, I know, Apple did warn people about that, but does that mean it shouldn't count? Lol of course not.

Touch ID 2
Face ID 0

Third and finally, any prankster can grab your phone and shove it in your face before you even realise what's going on.

Touch ID 3
Face ID 0

Touch ID not only wins, it wins by a canter.

It works really well for me but I’m going to give people a few more days to mess with it and try and trick it before I proclaim it a resounding success.

I’m not really all that concerned either way. Unless I’m gett No mugged, in which case I have other concerns, my phone is getting hit imwith an iCloud wipe/lock within moments of being lost. I know where my phone is at all times.

Im sorry you can’t afford a new phone.

FaceID works well at night too.

I'm not sure why you assume this person can't afford an iPhone X strictly that they have a preference for touch ID overFace ID. There are many iPhone 8 users who can easily afford an iPhone X, they just don't feel the need to spend $1000 on iPhone that they may not prefer.
Not actually assuming that, just making a snide remark guessing they are jealous or a troll to put them down. Getting tired of reading these absurdly stupid threads by people who clearly have not tried the new tech. If they had, these arguments about the number of “steps” to unlock would be dead. It’s just dumb.

In my first two days with the X, I have to say Face ID has surpassed my expectations. It has worked so quickly and flawlessly, I’m not even aware of the process as it unfolds. It just happens, and I’m in the home screen. Same deal with passwords. Eventually, people will come around.

Hilarious, no rebuttal to the points made except “... you can’t afford a new phone...” hahahahah
Sorry, I thought it was clear. FaceID is frictionless, more secure, and a better solution all around. Try it before defending baseless claims that TouchID is better. Just because you don’t have it doesn’t make it worse.

His point #1 is incorrect. The counting of steps to unlock is irrelavent because that is just one of the things the authentication is used for. How about thinking about using a banking app (or any other secure app):

Face ID - click on app...that’s it, you are in

Touch ID- click on an app, then move your thumb off the screen to home button, then move your finger all the way back to the screen to navigate the app. THATS 3 STEPS - OH LORDY!

Face ID back on top with something you do aside from just unlocking (and something you do more) - use apps!

Point 2 - so a twin can fool Face ID...1 out of 1,000,000, as advertised. Well, 1 in 50,000 random people fool Touch ID. Face ID continues the lead! The poster just didn’t understand what he was taking about with that one. Does this count for 20 points since it’s 20x more secure?

Point 3 - someone steals your phone, points it at your face and it’s stolen. He can read your texts/emails and do nothing else. Oh yeah, and a thief can grab your hand to unlock a Touch ID device when he is robbing you, and have the same lack of success. Reading your texts and emails and listening to your voicemails, but unfortunately he still can’t sell it or buy anything with it because it’s locked with your Apple ID. It’s a draw - same issues.

FACE ID wins 2-0 or (21-0), ignoring all of the other issues with Touch ID like greasy / wet hands. Wow. Thanks for asking for clarification. Hopefully you naysayers come to your senses and stop trying to make lousy arguments to justify the fact that you won’t or can’t buy one.

I guess you haven't seen the two non twin brothers post to reddit unlocking an iPhone x with each others faces yet.

How do those videos disprove the facts that FaceID is 20x more secure. Come on people. At least make make your troll arguments defendable!!!!!!! This is too easy to shut you down.
