OH NOOOO... Why are the colors on the invitation the same as the current iPod Nano lineup?

My bet is that the wireless connectivity will be free. Like the kindle and Amazon.

Apple will work a deal with Verizon to incorporate the connection fee into the content download, just like Amazon does for the kindle.

The Apple Tablet will have wiFi connectivity for general internet browsing. In addition it will have "free" content subsidized download capabilities for content such as movies, songs, books, apps.

Verizon is the best carrier for that type of connection because 3G coverage is much more extensive and faster 4G is currently rolling out. AT&T is way way behind and GSM is inferior to CDMA for data bandwidth and coverage per cell tower.

Maybe free Wi-Fi (like ATT offers w/ the iPhone) & wireless for paid iTunes d/ls, but not free wireless for everything. You can't compare to the Kindle b/c the Kindle's browser is primative and dosen't suckup a lot of bandwidth like a fully Internet capable, color Apple tablet will. I can see wireless companies subsidizing the table w/ a wireless sub, but I can't see lifetime all-you-can-eat wireless built into the tablet. That is a business model for failure.

Because Apple likes those colors? Because they sell well? Why the "OH NOOO"? You don't think Apple can market the tablet in multiple colors or you don't like those colors?

No i'm just fearing that the event may not be for an apple tablet. And no I don't think apple would market the tablet in all those colors. They've recently kept the multli-colored products to their cheaper line ups ie. nano, shuffle, while the more expensive products are silver, black or white, silver or black, etc... ie. ipod touch, iphone, ipod classic, macbook, macbook pro, iMac, mac pro, etc... Just going with precedent here.

Excited

I for one can't wait. Not sure if I will take plunge straight away as I think the tech for these devices will improve very quickly.

Long term I can see a move towards larger more powerful desktop machines that will form the basis of a media server for the home. Most people now have considerable amounts of digital data. I for one can no longer fit all my photos, music and movies on one laptop, even with a very large internal drive.

The tablet will very much fill the gap to allow seamless intergration between the user and home desktop/server. I think the ereader use will also become massive. In the green age we live in, surely it makes sense to move away from paper. Of course any electronic device will come with its own carbon footprint but in time this should be better than that of paper. I don't need mail any longer. Everything can be electronically sent. I now read most books, magazines and comics on my iphone so the larger screen will be a welcome move.

I currently use a Macbook Air but can really see the day when if fortune smiles I will have a tablet for portable/home use syncing off the back of a powerful home server.

This will give the best of both worlds. Power when required but ease of use and potability when performing basic functions.

Right.

And Kindle's 3G- limited like it is- is not FREE. You pay for it in every bit of media you buy. It's actually quite expensive if you check the other (Amazon) rumor posted earlier today. At 15 cents per megabyte, each gigabyte download would add $150 to the price. Download a 2Gb movie for $14.99 and you'll need to pay an extra $300 for the "free" 3G to deliver it. Kindle media is very small (median 368K) so it's adding only about 6 cents to each purchase. But download a 256K music file at say 8Mb, and that track is going to be $1.29 + $1.20 for the 3G provider.

Apple isn't going to eat those kinds of costs, nor are they going to double the prices of iTunes music, or charge a couple hundred dollars for one iTunes HD movie. Instead, there will be no Kindle-like "free" 3G on this device for anything other than Kindle-like (very small file size) media purchases.

All your Safari browsing, youtubing, etc, will be extreme HOGS compared to Kindle media, and there is no business way to eat that cost (by Apple, or by AT&T/Verizon/Etc) and still keep iTunes media priced about "as is".

Hopefully colored iPhones?

I hope the tablet will be unveiled, but the iPhone needs some talk too about a refresh, 3GS wasnt a true big refresh. As for whoever said that Apple won't make a cdma iPhone because other countries don't support it very much, they could still make one for Verizon/Sprint and sell them like hotcakes in the USA

That's right. And even with the US market feeling the pains we are feeling, there is hardly a better market of buyers in the world. I often see people in line at the grocery store paying for their food with food stamps while chatting on the 3GS. Americans will find the money to by tech toys, even when they lack it for the essentials. There's an awful lot of Verizon customers hungry to be able to buy an iPhone. And even after Verizon is fully at 4G, they aren't switching off their CDMA network for a very long time to come (certainly a lot longer than 1-2 years for a Verizon CDMA iPhone to become obsolete).

If I was Apple I would look at the US like this: we've about got AT&T opportunity maxed out, having sold so many iPhones that their network is straining to keep up. AT&T won't be able to build out their network fast enough to keep up with our sales goals for iPhones in the US. Verizon's network is our "next big thing" for further accelerating US iPhone sales.

No brainer.

i hate how we will have to wait for a 4G iPhone until like 2011 just because the us is so behind and slow on the mobile market ...

I just need them to release the new Mac Pros for chrissakes! I need to replace my 2 dual G5's for a big edit project coming up in a couple of months and it looks like I am going to be screwed into buying systems and having them come out with new ones a month or so later. arghhh...

If Sprint and Walmart go through with that adding a WiMax tower to every Walmart there is deal, then that would be a much faster 4G rollout than other carriers and Apple might look into that for the next revision?

Do you really think Walmart would want to do anything to help further erode their profitable media sales to Apple? Walmart and Apple are pretty much at odds on this subject.

But I am very much in favor in getting WiMax towers EVERYWHERE if only to add a true 3rd competitor on a national scale. If we could then get 2 or 3 other national competitors into the mix, maybe capitalism could actually work again (real competition driving down prices for us consumers)?

I can't imagine they would announce the Verizon link until right before it happens. To do so would crush sales. It is not the Apple way to do anything to hurt current sales by announcing a future product.

Frankly, while AT&T has it's issues, Verizon is notorious for crippling it's high speed service and allowing only limited access. When I tried them, I found they weren't all they cracked up to be.

Maybe the Tablet will usher in the tethering we were promised months ago. I am one that sees the Tablet as such a game changer, that I will likely have one the day they hit.

Obviously, most of these "insights" are gonna miss the target, as before.

The thing is I've been holding my breath for this product for so long. Since, we have no idea what it's capable of I've been holding myself off to not to buy a new MBP, an e-book reader and a HTC HD2. It's not gonna be as powerful as MBP but it might just be productive enough to give me a desired level of "productive mobility". We know that it'll be an e-book reader but will it be much better than those big e-ink screens? Also, will it make me not to buy a HTC HD2(to replace my iPhone)?

Man, 27th can't come soon enough.

Come see "Apple's latest creation" says the invitation

Come see "AppleSLATEst creation"

Saw this here, can't take credit for it, but its a brilliant catch.

If Verizon does get the iPhone, will it be possible to buy one and run it on Sprint's network? I'm not sure how it works... The At&t phones can be run on others by just getting a Sim card from the different networks (from what I understand?). If this is true and CDMA does not use sim cards, would you really be able to use it on Sprint?

Have a really cheap Sprint plan and love their service but I'm missing my iPhone I had for 2 years.

Everyone expects this tablet will be able to do EVERYTHING. You guys do realize that this is Apple we're talking about right? The tablet is going to do what Apple wants it to do and we're all still going to buy it even if it's missing the most basic features and is locked down tight so that we have to hack it to make it do more.

Analysts do not know Apple as well as they think they do. Verizon? Hah! Yeah right.

That's all I have to say.

Come back and quote my post on the 27th if I'm wrong. Really.

i second that they dont know .. they are just paid to make guess.. macrumors=anaylist :]

I don't believe that Sprint will allow "foreign" devices on its network. I believe that there's a whitelist of allowed ESNs, and anything not on that list is unable to connect.

Oh YAY!!!!

Here comes the Parade of @sshole!!!

I love this time before a rumored Apple release, the analysts come out of the woodwork to spew their complete BS about what THEY think is going to happen and the media licks it all up and says "More please?"....

The media should be interviewing Arn and the likes of him.... not these paper pushers who drive around in their BMW M-Series and "do lunch" with industry "insiders".
