I am happy to learn that your experience has been stellar and that you are a very happy camper. When the air 2 is released with 2gb SRAM, I wonder what argument you will come up with to defend apple for skimping on the 1st gen air!

The answer is simple and has been stated numerous times in these kinds of threads. RAM is a comparatively large battery hog. It is the only part of the device that is powered at all times. If Apple were to double the RAM, it could have the effect of doubling the standby power draw, halving the standby time.

Frankly, I'm fine with Apple being stingy with RAM in their devices. Developers have repeatedly proven that given excess RAM, they'll get lazy with their coding, to the point that many simple programs now consume hundreds of megabytes on our regular computers. That behavior would wreck the performance of tablets and mobile devices.

Like some of the other people in this thread, I too own some Android tablets with 2-3GB of RAM, and I can confirm as well that it is no panacea - those tablets have plenty of performance issues of their own, while also having significantly worse standby battery life.

Speaking as an iPad owner, it is a great device, but it isn't a one size fits all solution.

I also don't really understand why the Verge bitches on about Galaxy devices so much.

Their pro-Apple bias is so damn obvious.

Android phones and Android tablets are literally Apples and Oranges.

I have an Android phone because it is far better than an iPhone. Everything takes a lot less steps to accomplish the same thing.

An Android tablet however. No way.

Some examples of what the android phone does better and faster than an iPhone.
I'm curious to know, because every time I have an android I cannot get over the sluggishness and touch screen response never mind that it's looks like Symbian and most of the time behaves like Symbian.
Please don't mention customisation and the typical android response. I'm not flaming I really want to know as I haven't followed android and their progress in a while and would love to here some practical points that you consider superior. Thanks

I'd say it's the opposite. In my experience Android phones take more steps and a lot more tweaking/installing third party apps to get things done that the iPhone does right out of the box. You have to take the time to optimize them before you can get a comparable experience to an out of the box iPhone.

chupachup is still in time-out, so he won't be responding for a while.

The only time I've used an Android device is when I had to set up the email on my boss's Galaxy phones. Maybe Samsung's own interface is different from regular Android, but setting up email on that thing takes a lot longer than it takes on iOS. In iOS, the email settings are entered in, I think, two screens, at most 3. On the Galaxy, it's like, enter one value, move to the next screen, enter another value, move to the next screen. Need to change a value you entered a few screens back? Start over from the beginning.

It's easy to be pro-Apple when their devices are so much better. There isn't an Android tablet worth a look, IMHO.

iPad is king

It's one thing to objectively consider Apple products better, but another to ignore the strengths of others because you are blinded by the logo on the back.

They've held pretty much every Galaxy tablet with contempt, begrudgingly conceding a sentence or two for the products strengths. Yet any iPad shortfalls are ignored or barely touched upon. Every other outlet has praised the Tab S but the Verge who seem to think everything should be made out of aluminium.

Did they even mention the Z2 in the video? I can't remember but their review was laughable. "You could buy two Nexus 7s for the price" was a criticism. The same Nexus 7 they all but wrote off in that video for being old hat.

U can plug a mouse, printer and even aurdino in android.

Proper file manager and split screen in certain tablet or floating app for basic multi task. Play a video thru hard disk, Bluetooth file to other OS.

ipad might be superior in the rest of the other area especially in ram management? Since ipad doesn't lag if u install too many apps.

Not really a surprise. Until android developers really care about making apps this will always be the case. I wish iPad had some split screen though.
