Hanging on the activation screen for 20 minites now, as once again, AT&T is not prepared for the heavy volume. I wouldn't mind waiting until later, but you can't continue with things like restores until activation is complete.

Well, my AT&T phone has been restoring from backup from my MacBook Pro for the last 20 minutes. Not sure if it is "activated" but assuming not since my iPhoneX still appears to be active on AT&T.

Are you referring to OTA backup restores?

My last two phone upgrades I purchased full price at the Apple store, put my old sim card in the new phone and never got charged the ATT activation/upgrade fee.

tried that today, the old sim was deactivated even tho it was put into the new phone before I even powered on the IP11PM.

One benefit to replacing the sim and swallowing the activation fee:

it changes your imei #
If you are being tracked based on imei, that ends today.

Not sure what you mean by 'that ends today'. Tracking does not end, ever. You're being tracked constantly using the mounds of available unique identifier data your phone generates onto the network.

I was on with an AT&T rep, getting the dreaded "can't verify your identity" error, and in the middle of the chat, she claimed she just got a note that AT&T activations are down now.

How do you do a hrd reset on a phone that hasn't been activated or configured? The various button tricks I googled didn;t work.

Glad I switched to Verizon earlier this summer. You think they would’ve learned after the 3G fiasco 11 years ago.

I left mine doing the setup from my XR backup, and figured when I get home, I'll just put my SIM from my XR into my 11. It should work just fine, right?

Honestly it could be 50/50 if you left the old SIM in when you first powered it on. Usually it is best to put the old SIM in and then power on for the first time.

Oh well - guess I could erase and restore the 11 and start over with my current SIM in it.

I went into the ATT store after an hour and a half waiting for activation and all they did was restart the phone and it was already activated when it turned back on. Must have just gotten stuck on that activation screen.
