For me, I prefer the taste of diet sodas. Just don't like the sugar. I seriously doubt the really fat people are thinking that small calorie savings will offset the biggie fries, burger, and shake.
True... at least I hope none of those people think that the 'savings' of diet soda calories will enable them to 'safely' eat all that other food.

My first year of college, I saw tons of gorgeous women drinking diet Cokes out of the bottle all the time... they looked odd if they didn't have one in hand! I thought it might be the new 'drug' or maybe some cult that I was excluded from... So I gave it a try. Eww. Tried it again. I was determined to make it into the club of hottiedom. Then tried a sip of regular Coke-- gag. *Gasp* I had made it into the Diet Coke club! :p

I'd have to say you're likely in the minority. I know people who are, um, horizontally challenged who order diet drinks with large meals in an attempt to reduce the calories, not because they like the taste. It's like buying a new car, but leaving out the floor mats to save $150. Why bother?
Or like spending $$$ on a new computer and not spending $40 to bump the HD?

Yeah, I get that some people think it'll help. For me, though, I just prefer the non-sugary "taste" (hate to use that word....).

Yikes, what an ordeal. At least you didn't have to taste regular/diet pepsi  ;)

Oh but I do. :( My bf's uni only serves Pepsi... Gotta admit that I'm a coke fan. :p

Is it bad that I often spend my time on weekends making sandwiches similar to that? I doubt mine ever get to 30,000 calories, but I've made some pretty crazy sandwiches.

Hope you spend some serious time exercising after eating those sandwiches. ;) :)

Then there's places like Burger King, where a Double Whopper with Cheese is over 1000 calories. And people eat those all the time

Some of those supersized creations that people have for one given meal are more than I would consume over a typical two day period. The occasional indulgence is one thing, but looking at the size of some of those individuals on line, you just know that they are hooked on grease.

And people think that drugs and alcohol are the real problems.

Not everyone who's bigger is a grease-stuffing pig! My bf is a big guy but honestly, he eats tons of salads (w/ limited amounts of oil and vinegar) and almost never eats at fast food places. :( He's always been a sicko and his metabolism never recovered from a childhood illness. I eat more than he does.

No, not everyone is. But when you look at every other person in line, it can get depressing. :(

No, but you will need a stomach pump and a quadruple bypass.

:) Upon paying for the meal, the employees should at least hand out a small flyer with the names of recommended cardiologists within a radius of 5 miles. That way they can always say, "Well, we warned you."

You know, you have a point. You rarely see fat drug addicts.
That's probably because as you get far enough along into drug addiction you'll delegate more of your budget away from food and toward your addiction. That's not even counting tons of drugs that up your metabolism or keep you wired and up/running about for days on end (like crack or meth). Even cigarettes will temporarily satisfy hunger pangs while upping your metabolism-- hence, smokers attempting to quit are often dismayed by weight gain.

I feel for people like your bf - they get lumped in with everyone else since it's not readily apparent what their issue is, but they are the minority. I don't think most overweight people can claim a true medical excuse for their weight.

What gets me is that many people who can control their don't even care to. Not to turn this into a serious discussion or anything, but I just can't imagine being as overweight as some people are, and continue to (apparently) do nothing about it. I weighed about 190 last year and thought it was too much on my 6' 1"-ish body so I lost some weight. I can't imagine being 300 pounds and continuing along like that.

That, or they could just sign a form releasing the provider of the food from any damage incurred to them by consuming the super fatty, calorie infested food product(s). ;)

Scary isn't it. So many people who could do something about their being overweight, but could care less. Oh well, just don't complain later.

That looks good enough to (try and) eat!

I'm with ya. Where can I find one of these sandwhiches? It looks tasty (sans the onion rings, who puts those on a sandwhich? Ill takem on the side thanks. )

and actually, a lack of physical activity has far more to do with why americans are so fat than their calorie in take.
