That is very true. Yet, I managed to lose 50 pounds over an 11-month span and have maintained my new weight of 150 for the ten months that has followed, and I am not doing any exercising to speak of, aside from short walks (5 blocks) to and from train stations and going around my floor once or twice to discuss work related matters with other employees.

I do not dislike the idea of more formal exercising, but have a long-standing chronic problem with headaches and exertion exacerbates it. Due to my lack of activity, I need to be very careful in regularly limiting my calorie intake to 2,000 per day. If I were to go above that by several hundred on a daily basis, I know I would add back weight because that is what happened years ago.
 
30,000 calories... Seeing as 3,500 calories = 1 pound of weight, I can put on freshman 15 here at college with just 2 of those sandwiches.
 
In Morgan Spurlock's "Super Size Me", one of the people interviewed put forth a very interesting thought. In America, obesity and it's related problems is the number cause of preventable death, right behind cigarette smoking. Take out people who are geniunely pre-disposed to obesity for a second and think about this - it has become socailly acceptable to ridicule and harass a smoker, but the same does not hold true for an obese person chowing down at McDonalds. What will happen when obesity overtakes smoking as the number one cause of preventable death in the United States?

Disclaimer - I'm 6'3" 215 and while not small person, I'm far from obese, have a smoke here and there and eat fast food maybe twice a month.
