My Guess?

A truly multi touch OSX isn't ready yet. And I mean truly from a UI design standpoint. Our current UI is designed with a point and click interaction in mind.

The iPhone OS, while simple, handles multi touch very very well.

A more Laptop like device will hit the market at the same time as the next version of OSX, which will be well on the way towards being a true multi touch OS.

Am I the only one that is kind of annoyed by TechCrunch's poor grammar? On several occasions, the quote says "were", "were hearing is that...". LEARN WHAT A CONTRACTION IS!

Haha my grammar-nazi of a proffesor is already getting to my head

What's a proffesor? Is it like a proccesor?

HAHA this is pretty funny! Laugh at it people! :D :p

I don't see this happening though! I might see a bigger iPad and I do for sure see iPhone OS becoming more capable like Mac OS X but not Mac OS X going the tablet direction! Doesn't make any sense!

Not gonna happen

Existing Mac OS X applications are not created to run under a tablet interface. Tricking the apps into thinking they are running with a keyboard and mouse always results in a bad user experience.

It's been tried, and it always fails. New form factors need new software.

This is not going to happen.

Apple had better watch out because early designs of the Chrome OS tablets are what I hoped Apple would release:

Unlike the Courier, this video actually looks like it could come to reality. Surprise! It also has multitasking. OS 4.0 had really better be something special considering no improvements have been made since 3.0.

God have Mercy... I can't take it any more.

I was hanging out for the last few weeks believing I would be up-lifted and overwhelmed by Apple's release, and instead I am given what I already have, (just a bit larger and quicker).

I can't be hanging on tenterhooks waiting for the "real" tablet that we were all expecting. I can't believe in Apple anymore.

I just can’t.

Reading all the emotions here over the last few weeks, I can't stop pondering the nature of humanity, sanity, and the modern society.

The promotional video clearly states the goal of this iPad. It's a large iPod. Even the name is the clue. For what it's designed, it's as good a product as any.

But it appears the modern consumer culture is the one of a weak-headed, saliva-dripping, overweight baby - any new product is met with whining, criticism, calls for the mercy of God, 'loss of faith' (come on, 'believe in Apple'? do you put candles on its little altar? sacrifice goats to it?), at times open mockery and hatred. Gosh, to read comments on Utube... you'd think Apple has just nuked a few blooming cities, or stolen teddy bears from all the world's children.

The days of simple enjoyment of life, and things well-made are... gone?

I'm not directing my post in particular at you wackymacky, but your hilarious positioning of this little product into terms of religious revelation was so captivating.

It's the vision, the half-empty concept, the fuzzy promises that offer us hope. Eldorado is just behind those misty mountains, just a few more months, and we'll be happy, happy forever, in possession of that one magical device that will meet all, all, all our needs.

the Google thing does look good though. In concept.

Better watch out Apple, Google is close to releasing the Chrome Tablet, running Chrome OS. I was one app..... Chrome

I find it hard to believe that they would release something exactly like Mac OS X. Even if it is similar under the hood they will make some huge interface changes to make it a good tablet experience.

There will also never be a 13" macbook pro, or an SD slot, or no firewire on macbooks

I watched the linked video, and I don't see why I'd prefer doing those tasks with my fingers rather than using my mouse to do the exact same thing on my laptop.

It's just another tablet PC.

I know that's what this debate always comes down to, though - the people that actually like tablet PCs versus those of us that don't really see the point. Gives us all something to discuss while we watch this play out over the next few years, I guess. :D

Is it that time again
