Android Phone that matches the iPhone 4?

Smart phones are more then their specs, its their ability to get the job done in way that works well with the owner. I'd be less inclined to a spec whore and more to see which platform fits your needs the best.

Great point, so, do you know of any Android phones not for hard gamers, but for someone who will mostly use it for skype, whatsapp, calling, searching mail and works smoothly, I think the design and cost is what most matters, it doesn't need a great camera, just one frontal and a rear one with 2-3 mpx

depends on what kind of phone user you are.

if you like to fully customize your phone with no lockdowns, get an android.

if you want a phone that has slightly less functionality than the android, but easy to use, get the ip4.

im an android guy, so the best android device out there by far is the motorola atrix, coming to at&t. its by far the most powerful spec wise smartphone out there.

i have to have a 4.0+ inch screen. so its my personal preference. until iPhone goes 4.0+, im sticking with android, and even then, i'd have to think if i were to make a switch to iPhone.

He said next couple of weeks. That one isnt coming til March.

its GSM yes, we're talking about the same phone.

its just that all Verizon android phones are CDMA. All verizon phones have the 'Droid' moniker.

I don't need it to be Verizon or Spring or AT&T since i'm not buying it subsidized.

no what im saying is that any Verizon android phone, will not be compatible for the phone ure looking for, as they are not GSM.

that leaves T-Mobile and AT&T android phones that are currently out. the mytouch 4G is the latest android phone. its quite powerful, and easily customizable as it has unlocked bootloader. HTC is good with delivering updates. I'd recommend this phone to your friend.

Droidx, droid incredible, samsung galaxy, vibrant, nexus s. Check them out yourself.

Depending on the carrier you choose will dictate the android phones you'll have available

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for.

Give this person an ipod touch 4. Use skype and facetime! Or Samsung aTT version of the galaxy phone. iPhone 3gs is good, too.

The Droid Incredible is the closest in most respects and better in some respects in terms of specs.

If you have T-Mobile, then go with the G2 or the Nexus S.

Your best bet is an HTC phone or Motorola phone, but if you're looking for something similar in size to the iPhone go with the Droid Incredible.

Does Samsung have good phones? I liked the HTC phones but Motorola not so much.

Nexus S, Mytouch 4G, or G2. TMobile have a better selection of Android phones than AT&T.

I liked the Nexus S, but is it a good and reliable phone? Because it seems that Google should not be that great at making phones, in comparison with all those companies which have been making phones for almost 20 years.

Based on what? At CES Motorola said in the coming weeks. March would be in the coming months. Last week of Jan or first week of Feb is more likely based on what Motorola said. Also they've been advertising it a ton which I doubt they would do for a phone than is 2 months away from being released.

The Nexus S is made by Samsung, Google Just provides the stock Android software for it.

Any Android phone released the past 6 months is better than the iPhone4. EVO 4G is awesome...Nexus-S on T-Mobile is wicked fast and butter smooth...Verizon has some sick Droid's...and ATT has a real kick ass brand new Android phone coming out very soon.

iPhone 5 needs three major things to stay competitive; Widgets...Notification system...larger 4" screen...As it is right now, the iPhone 4 feels like a very stale and outdated phone to me.

I have an EVO 4G, and my Wife has the Nexus-S.

No Android = iPhone. It really comes down to software. (You could argue about hardware, but there are well-made Androids and, more to the point, I'd suggest someone who loves Android or iOS, having honestly tried both, will stick with their platform regardless of this factor).

The most compelling features of the iPhone include iOS, the App Store, and other things which Android smartphones cannot manufacture. There are other benefits like improved usability, polish, and reliability (provider issues aside) If someone wants the slightly more chaotic but more expandable environment Android offers, including the improved hackability, over iOS and associated features, then they'll want Android over iPhone. If someone wants those iOS features, they're not going to find a comparable Android anywhere.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.1; en-gb; Nexus S Build/GRH78) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

If timely updates are what your friend wants, it'd be best to go for the Nexus S (although ironically my Nexus One is still waiting for an official Gingerbread release, come on Google!).

Hardware wise, the Nexus S is almost identical to the iPhone 4.
1ghz hummingbird
5mp camera (no HD video recording yet tho)
16gb internal storage
Front facing camera
Stock android 2.3
Compass, gyroscope, wifi, Bluetooth, gps
Super amoled screen.

Disadvantages are the lack of HD video recording (mentioned earlier) and no SD slot. The hardware on the horizon looks like it will trounce the Nexus S easily tho but without a stock android build, they could get left behind update wise.

There are some good choices out there now and some even better handsets due very soon. Probably a hard time to buy an Android phone IMO but I do like my Nexus S.

gsm-nexus 2 or atrix(may seem like a beast spec wise, but half of it is for the laptop dock feature)

cdma- thunderbolt, droid bionic
