Sense 3.0 on the HTC Flyer tablet blows away Honeycomb... and everything else, for that matter. It's gorgeous and highly usable.

Heck, with the fullscreen HTC widgets, you can do many things just from the homescreen carousel.

It also has the optional active pen, with Evernote support.
Screw Honeycomb, hello HTC?! :D

I returned my asus transformer. Bad build, bad optimization, limited app availably. In a year, it will likely be another story and I think the idea behind then transformer is better than just a tablet.

Here's the scary and sad part about Android... in order to make it usable on a phone or tablet, you need to use a proprietary UI designed by your tablet or handset manufacturer. TouchWiz. HTC Sense. MotoBlur. And what on earth do Samsung, HTC, Motorola or the rest know about designing user interfaces? Exactly. Nothing.

No thanks. I'll trust my UI experience to the people who know it the best and have been perfecting it for decades: APPLE.

Thats not true at all. They don't have to put a ui on it they just choose to. Most OEMs say that it helps consumers and makes it simple when all it does is slow down your phone. They think it will help them make their product iconic.

I feel the same way as the OP!

I,too, have an EVO and was excited for Android tablets. However, my experience with Xoom and Transformer with the 3.1 update have crushed any hopes of seeing a true competitor to the iPad.

Needless to say, I bought an ipad 2 and have been very happy!!

Completely agree. One of the things about Honeycomb that seems really poorly conceived compared to the iPad are the soft buttons on the bottom of every screen for home, back and multitasking. Apple's implementation is far better with the home button accessing home and multitasking. Not to mention iOS 5 which will introduce a lot of new gestures to facilitate navigation.

You next purchase might be an iPhone 5? lol
Because of the free iCloud service and the Eco system?

Why:rolleyes:? The ecosystem is one of Apple's most appealing aspects.

The title could just as easy have been "iOS users give up on the iPad", as you can find exactly that kind of fanboy "report" posted on Transformer/Iconia Tab/Xoom/etc. user forums. More regurgitated baseless fancrap. Hope you sleep better now, OP, for getting that off your chest.

Sent from my Transformer.

You know, I slept better.

So you didn't actually buy a Honeycomb tablet then?

In which case, you didn't "give up" on it, because you were never using it.

I did give up on the idea of purchasing one.

Transformer/Iconia Tab/Xoom/etc. user forums? Yeah, I looked for those forums. Not much in the way of people posting on any of them. Might have something to do with the fact that very few people buy those tablets.

But I'm sue you'll sleep better knowing you were able to berate the OP for no reason, other than to post in an iPad forum on your non-iPad.

Well said.

I wanted an Android Tab (the samsung one :D:D) but the lack of apps and slow app updating is just horrible. I'll be looking out for the touchpad or an ipad.

Lack of apps is really surprising. It's been months and there are many Honeycomb tablets available now.

Based on your background with Apple, why you would even try Android is puzzling. We all know Uncle Steve disapproves.

It all had to do with being a Sprint customer. Had Sprint offered the iPhone it would have been a non-issue.

Wow. More Kool aid for you?

Same can be said about apple. Their idea of "interface" is bunch of icons vomited all over the screen. Perfecting what for years? Giving us *GASP* folders???? A true innovator!!!

Perfecting what exactly for "decades"? Apple System was pretty hideous until OSX facelift.

Apple does indeed make decent UI on Macs. The iOS? No, sorry. Bunch of icons thrown on a screen do not make a UI.

Honestly, once Android figures out how to accelerate UI, the iPad will be left in the dust. Of course it will have app advantage for next year or 2, but that gap will close as well.

Apple needs some fresh ideas. I hope that someone will get to replace Steve pretty soon. Guy is invested into iOS a bit too personally. Beef with adobe? Remove flash and write an open letter trying to explain yourself. Bumped heads with Zuckerberg? Pointless twitter integration in iOS 5, with Facebook features nowhere to be found.

When iOS came out, it was amazing. Easy to use, nice and responsive. But that was back when? Mobile world is evolving. Just having grid of icons for 5 years, and finally allowing us to change the wallpaper is not a UI evolution.

By the way, full disclosure. I am an android phone user (evo) and typing this from my iPad 2 that I bought on a launch day.

Now, let the down ranking begin! Release the hounds! (or rabid fanboys)

And good thing about it, you do not need to use OEM UI. you can switch to any other ones out in the market.

the android honeycomb os will take another year of updates to sort everything else i reckon, then it will be an even field like it is at the moment in the mobile industry. actually the android OS and phones are improving at a faster rate compared to the iphone, so apple are the ones playing the catch up. although i suspect iphone 5 will catch up and wipe everything else in its way. well unless its not a 5 but a 4.5 with minor updates.

unlike apple, android have created a completely new ui and one could say OS, to get the best type of user experience. one could say the ipad OS is basically just a large iphone, although the much bigger screen changes everything and gives the user a complete browser experience.

however android is trying to do so much more, they are not making it as complicated as a computer, however they are certainly giving it more features and customisation when you could compare to the ipad.

like i said though, it will take a year to catch up, iron over all the flaws just like they have done with the phone os, and get developers on board.

when this happens, and if we compare it to what has happend with android phones, this will certainly happen, and better competition will truly begin in the tablet market. win-win situation for us.

I'm not so sure about these statements. Google hasn't blown away Apple in any sense of the word since it's inception, in terms of smart phones, TV integration, Desktop OS, customer satisfaction, app store, number of applications for mobile devices (quality apps too) and so on.

Android has had better things within it's OS, like widgets, active screens, notifications, and customization, yet the iPhone still outsells every other OEM and maintains the #1 ranking in customer satisfaction surveys.

Then there is the iPad and well, no one else. Google has had over a year to create Honeycomb and ensure devs created apps for it. No one wants Honeycomb and devs don't want to develop for the platform. Quite frankly it appears Honeycomb is a flop and manufacturers are losing a ton of cash making tablets that use it.

To say Android-based tablets will leave the iPad in the dust, when Google hasn't managed to do it in 4 years against the iPhone, seems a bit wishful thinking. I mean, when Apples iPhone division alone makes more money than all of Google, or that Apples nearly 70 billion in cash reserves could buy out nearly every other company making phones except Samsung, that should tell you that Apple is doing something right.

That sums it up nicely.
Android fans keep saying this all the time about this and that all the while assuming Apple sits tight and does not improve at the same clip and perfecting on where they are already miles ahead.
Sorry it's not going to happen.

Here is an idea for you to see why the iOS layout works so well.
Take an iPad and an Android pad of your choice to the masses and let them work it and see what happens.
And please I don't mean your geek friends but real people that don't buy everything and hate working on computers.

After you did this you will see why the puked on icon view you dislike so much is so genius and works so well.

Let go of the old start button and filesystem and live will be much easier for you, if that's what you are looking for.

The perfect answer for this is that "Evo vs iPhone 4" video. iPhone is a household name. And it kind of deserves to be. Apple was first on the market, and has wider reach. iPhone is great for anybody, but I find that more serious users opt for Android based phones. This is based on my friends, coworkers, etc. My company is technology oriented, and out of 80 or so employees, about 10 have iPhones, 15 with blackberries, rest are with Android based phones. And they tend to be a bit more demanding of their phones.

As you all may know, Android already is way ahead of Apple in market share. Also, Apple is not doing so well outside of the USA. OEMs know about this and they are still pushing into Apple's turf. Take a look at HTC Sensation. Amazing LCD screen, great UI, and out of the box, it's much more usable than iPhone. But iPhone will continue to sell like hotcakes for at lest another 2 years, mostly due to it being a household name.

I remember few years back, I had HTC Touchpro 2. An ok phone, running Windows Mobile. OS was an abomination, but it had a hardware keyboard, which I loved. And most common question people had was "How did you add a keyboard to the iPhone?????"

Apple will continue making a ton of money, but I do believe that it will start decreasing bit by bit, when people realize that there are other viable options out there.

That sums it up nicely.

FYI, if you want to puke a ton of icons on the screen with Honeycomb, you can do that too. The wonderful part is, you do not have to unless you want to.

And let go of a filesystem? How's this of an example for your much praised lack of file system.
I have a TV episode on my PC. I did not have time this morning to convert it to iPad's video format with Handbrake, so I say, screw it, I have CineXplayer and another app that can play it. So I go to iTunes, add the file to the app, and leave. Sitting on the train, I was about to enjoy some House and Doctor Who goodness, but alas, CineXplayer wouldn't support the video's audio codec. No problem. Let me just launch another player app to play it. Oh wait, I forgot, I cannot do that! Because there's no file system, other app cannot access that video. So there I am, no video, and no idea if Rose will be stuck in parallel universe.

And for Start button, how would you let go something that can get you to your program within seconds? Takes 2 clicks to find ANY program on my PC, majority of settings. Try this with a Mac, and no, you cannot use Search.

Which would still be odd, adding that to a forum post. Surely, if he wants that, just lob it in the sig? Seems like a thing of silliness to me.

The point is if he sets it as a signature in tapatalk, it comes into every forum without having to delve into the options of that forum. If the poster frequents multiple computer related forums, this may well be the case, and would be the most time efficient way of adding a signature.

We've got a long long log way to go.

Give it 10 years and see what's what then.
Anyone got a time machine, I'd love to pop forward 10 years and know who's making the mistakes now.

Piggie what I Think u don't understand is that when it comes to the things that actually matter, whatever apple isn't doing that android is is not because they aren't capable. It's because they choose not too.

Whatever android isn't doing is because they just arent capable.

Apple could throw a bunch of half baked hardware features into their devices, but they don't have too. Apple has the will and the money to launch more versions of the iPhone. They choose not to..

Android is still trying to figure out how to create a fluid interface. They are still trying to imitate Apples Eco system. They are still trying to get that 10 hr battery life and the only reason why google is offering Flash is because apple isn't. The only reason why they have an "open" platform is because Apple chooses not too. The only reason why they put out half baked features is because Apple doesn't.

At the end of the day google is offering anti-Apple products because there is a market for everything Apple hates. Plus it's a teat way for them to sale ads.

If apple starts to see a problem where the number of android phones is actually(cause it really isn't at the moment) hurting their business, I'm sure we would start to see some kind of shift in the way Apple does things. Right now they are at 70 billion and growing.

played around with several honeycomb tablets at staples. piles of **** they are. not as easy to use or nicely built as ipad.

Android and iOS really are different ideas using different media. iOS is done via very few devices. By that I mean the ipad, the iphone, and the ipod. That is, ignoring the small variations 3 different devices. Compare with android, and there are many, many different phones, and tablets, all vying for a market share. The only winner there is Google, and the rest are frankly battling for that very same space. have a look at http://androidforums.com/ and see the different phones, etc, that run android.

I;m not sure if that is diluting the market, or enhancing it.

I hated Apple my whole life up until a year ago. My iPhone 4 changed my mind. When the iPad 2 was announced with cameras (I'm a heavy Skype/Facetime user), I felt comfortable jumping right in. The OS and the ecosystem are top notch and extensive, and the hardware is rock solid.

My parents bought a 3G Galaxy Tab because the only cell signal they get at their house is US Cellular. I can't believe how unfinished Android feels on a tablet. I have never liked it on phones because it feels clunky, but on tablets it feels like it's still in beta.

To me, iPad is the only tablet worth the money. The apps are there, the stability is there, the OS is fast and efficient, and it's built right into the workflow with all the other Apple gadgets. iCloud is only going to improve on that situation. I would not have been comfortable spending the money on any other tablet.

First of all, I can put any video/mp3 file onto my iPad and either watch it or listen to it. Load it direct to my iPad via iTunes in under 30 seconds. Any file, and put it into any folder of my choosing in AVPlayer. Might want to check out AVPlayerHD when you get a chance. Now while this app can play any video and as far as I know, audio type, obviously, you can not move it from AVPlayer to another app. Of course, there would be no need to. If you have an iPad, there really is no substitute for AVPlayerHD.

And for the Start button on you PC? Ever used a Mac? One click is all it takes. See that little magnifying glass in the up right corner? It's called Spotlight.

Even without spotlight it only takes one click to open the app folder...

I was really looking foward to a galaxy tab 10.1 but after finding out the limitations of the tegra 2 as far as hardware decoding and other little tidbits, I ended up going with a ipad 2 as my future buy. Needed something that could handle mkv 720's.

Im still interested in android but I'll give it more time to improve their UI, and ditch the tegra 2.

Funny, I gave up on apple and couldn't be happier. I can actually type in landscape and browse the full web with ease thanks to my quick controls. Maybe one day Stevie will let you guys in on modern innovation.

Will try with AVPlayer later today. I wish that iPad (and Android tablets) would simply support DivX,xvid and other formats standard, without the need to convert them to their own format.

And I do use a mac, granted, only when it's completely necessary. I have Snow Leopard running in my PC's VMWare. Quite honestly, I find it very awkward to use.

At one point, I had a ton of ZIP files, which I had to extract all in one folder and then rename all of them. With Windows, it was a breeze. Mac took me forever. It's just one example. But I did get my GF a macbook, simply because she does not need more PC features. She is happy with it, but I cannot use it. For few of my work things, I am required to work with ActiveX, which will never be supported on a Mac.

You can now type in full landscape? You couldn't do that on an iPad? As for the full web... You have flash. Well done, I hope you enjoy it.

I think you'll love AVPlayerHD. I refuse to use anything else and def not the vid player Apple provided. I don't want to have to convert anything to watch on my iPad. Plus, I like having subtitles supported and you can manipulate the size of the text. And if you only want to send a small file to your iPad, no wires required. Do it via wifi. :D

And Mac's aren't for everyone, nor do they fit everyone's needs. I hate having to use Windows now (been using Windows, and DOS, since 1984.) In 2008, finally had enough. I hate 3rd party driver loading and the conflicts it can cause, leading to BSOD. Can't stand the constant security updates, codec issues, and server failures. Hate that office .pptx and .docx files can cause conflicts with 1998-2003 doc and ppt files. My work hasn't shifted to Office 2010 yet.

Of course my MacBook Pro has both OSX and Windows 7 Ultimate on it. I can boot into either OS. I find that emulators just aren't the same.
