What Apple needs:
20171002193729-Satya-Nadella-web.jpeg

Not the person, obviously. The mentality.

Absolute rubbish. You cannot teach empathy or integrity to people, it's something that is in their soul. Tech people do not make mentors. Angela is a people person, there's enough tech people already at Apple.

No. What you’re saying is BS. Tech people are mostly introverted. Teaching them to be more sure about themselves is easier than teaching someone not interested in tech, about tech. I have experience with opening up reserved people and teaching people tech. The first is the easiest.

Also, if I’m going to buy something I’d rather want someone knowledgeable not empathetic.

I never liked Angela Ahrendts, it’s finally time for her to go. I know she was just responsibe for the stores and not actual product design but I feel like she brought this feeling that Apple devices had to be luxury items with high prices.
I agree with the "luxury feel" issue. Those $20k watches were the highlight of it all. Not sure who exactly was responsible for that, but the timing was close.

Aside from all the snark in this thread, I wish her luck. I know she had a successful career with Burberry at one point, maybe that’s the type of forte that’s more suited for her in the design industry more than being at a tech company like Apple. Either way, I don’t have any qualms with her leadership with the retail specifics, it will be interesting to see any changes after her departure.

Did not see this coming at all. Sounds like they are letting her stay until she hits 5 years to vest, but usually the new person effectively starts immediately.
Did not see that coming either. But it is always nice that people at these levels don't fear no consequences.
I really do hate when corporations virtue signal like crazy and completely ignore the signals they are sending to their customers and employees.
She's safe, don't you worry. Although she did nothing.
Do that as a mid-level manager and you are lead out and nobody will ever address that you were there.
I'm glad she left.

I'm sure she had an extremely difficult time at Apple, coming into a business unit that so many looked up to, keeping things growing, making her mark, but not changing too much for fear of loss. It's really not much different than what Ron Johnson went through after leaving Apple (Angela's predecessor, not counting what's his name that came and went from the UK) and going to JC Penney. JCP needed real change, which he started implementing, then when the consumer balked, he gets canned and they go back to doing things the horrible old JCP way - which of course finally caught up to them now and they're paying the price yet again with disappointing sales and no real path forward.

When I consider my experiences at my local Apple store, I have to say it's the same overcrowded mess that it's been for the past 10 years. If I had to pinpoint one thing I think Apple should be doing with their stores, it would be to somehow create a separate iPhone area, because so much of the crowds I have experienced (and contributed to) are related to iPhone issues. It's what makes the overall experience seem far less about the big picture Apple ecosystem that was part of the old Apple stores. Obviously given the scope of the iPhone business, if they did this, it would take up the better part of each store, or maybe it should be a separate store unto itself, with some Apple Watches tossed in since they're mostly dependent on the iPhone still.

It's easy to realize why things stay relatively the same, as no executive wants to put their job and bonus on the line making changes that are seen as negative. Or worse, they want to make changes and get shot down by Tim, who knows enough to keep things going as is with just minor changes to the overall store experience.

Apple has always been a fashion company in a sense, a status symbol company.

The future of Apple is wearables. Watch + AirPods + Glasses will lead the company into the next decade. A fashion CEO would’ve been a great fit.

Angela appeared primed to succeed Tim as CEO but I think it became clear to her that he has no plans to leave anytime soon.

Good riddance! Her presence with apple correlates with many of the recent issues. Hope her replacement brings improvements and a real dedication to the apple ethos

So I wonder if that will be it for the "Town Hall" or "Town Square" concept she had for Apple stores?
Not unhappy to see her go though; thought she'd end up being Cooks replacement.

Why? Apparently the Watch is a health device now. They’re going to hire a doctor.

Actually, I would prefer them to be expensive if that meant getting a much better quality product than the cheaper competition. I think it was the case back then, but today, that gap is much, much narrow.

I actually liked Apple when it was a niche company. All the complainers, all the negativity you see here on MacRumors, was rare. Apple customers were people who appreciated high quality and attention to detail, even if they had to pay more. I miss those days.

I do know that. The bad quarter was due to much reduced iPhone sales in China. You have anecdotes. The rest of us have numbers.
Follow my posts. I am king of numbers here and know very well Apple sales were down $4.8B in China. I’ve been saying it since the numbers were announced.

What I’m saying is she might have been the scapegoat. A scapegoat is blamed for the faults of others.

Board members will assist tim to “move on.”

I had this experience also.

At first, I thought it was not the norm, like maybe there was some employee training event going on, but I had the same experience weeks later, and couldn't understand why there were so many underutilized employees.

That’s because all of the employees don’t do the same thing. If I’m a Genius, I work primarily on Mac’s only. So if there are Phones, Ipad’s, or Watches in the queue, I am told most times to not take them in order to stay available for Mac appointments.

The opposite is also true for Technical Specialists as well as sales.
