The reason it comes off as sexism is because hardly any one mentions Jeff Williams, the guy who is actually responsible for inventory. And blames Angela, the woman responsible for the Apple Store. I'm possibly being thick here, but this seems like an inventory problem, not a store problem. If she had more of them, she'd sell you them, that she doesn't has more to do with Jeff than her. Yet she's getting the heat. So then you have to ask why, sexism is an easy, and in my opinion correct conclusion to come to.

again, no one in the thread mentioned anything sexist. they are angry at her (position/title or retail tactics or exclusive stores), wrongfully or not, that's open for discussion. not accusing our anger for being sexist.

hahaha "oh dear…this launch is going tuuurriiblleee"

see? we don't care which gender :D hahaha

Look, I am often very critical of Apple. I want them to be the best with no excuses. Apple is a team of many people and there has been far too much focus on Angela as the reason people don't have their watches. It would have been idiotic to ship the inventory they do have to stores. I do question the decision to ship inventory to boutiques at this point so if you want to shame her for that, fine. But it makes no difference in the time taken to get watches out to customers; it's perception and reduced customer good will.

It's sort of amusing how bought in everyone was to the hype about how high-end the watch is with its fine materials and craftsmanship yet everyone expects Apple to crap them out as fast as ever. Think about that as you wait for your watch. Apple is making them as fast as they can and indeed want customers to have the best experience with the product.

sure start off with that… keep the discussion open. don't just shut it up by accusing us all of being sexist.

Every Watch in the drawer for my try-on session had a dead battery.

How is she earning her massive salary?

That is on that particular store. The watches are set up in each bay with a charger -the same set up you'll see in the edition boxes.

Either no one double pressed the side button to wake them up or someone didn't turn the power on to the chargers.

As Angela is the only visible women involved, who I again point out is not directly responsible for the main issue, which is that people who ordered very early do not have their watches. I have yet to see a good reason why she is being unfairly scapegoated, and why the person who has most responsibility, Jeff Williams seems to be getting no heat.
It is of course possible that no one is being sexist, and for some reason, unknown to me, decided that Angela should take the blaim for things which no reasonable person would expect her to be responsible for. Or it's sexism,

Jeff Williams isn't the face of Apple Retail- she is- hence she draws the, unfounded in my opinion, critiscim. Part of the job.

even if Angela was a man, we would still be mad at them. but because we're mad at her, means we're sexist. despite of the reason?

wouldn't that be reverse sexism?

Lets be real, this is Tim's fault.

He let someone, somewhere, convince him that they should release 38 different models in 9 different countries on day 1.

It was his call, and true this isn't the end of the world. But it also could have been a lot better. Tim's probably aware of that now.

I don't believe you would be mad at Angela if she was a man. I think you would reasonably look at the person who is responsible instead of scapegoating someone who isn't.

you don't remember what happen to Forstall's map debacle?
if that was a woman, you would accuse us of sexist as well?

I think you would reasonably look at the person who is responsible instead of scapegoating someone who isn't.

then no, this isn't about sexism. we are mad at the person we "think" it is responsible, doesn't matter if they are a woman or a man.

whether or not that person is to blame or not, that's debatable. if that person happen to be a woman, don't bring up sexism as a defense. that's the real scapegoat

Scott Forstall was responsible. He wasn't being scapegoated it was his fault. That enough apple watches were not made is not Angela's fault. And to answer your question if Forstall was a woman would I accuse people of sexism. No, as I already said it was his fault. I have not heard a single good reason why this is Angela's fault, and until someone can show me where in her job role that she is responsible for making the product, I have to say that she is unfairly being blamed for something that is not her responsibility.

There may be another reason that she has become the chosen scapegoat, and that the man who is responsible is hardly being blamed at all. But it looks like sexism to me.

Angela decided to do preorders and no store sales except in overblown boutiques who apparently have plentiful supplies while those who ordered weeks earlier are left hanging with vagueries she approved. Yes, it is also the typical dumb****ery of Apple for not going into production on time (which is assininely normal for them), I don't care if you spread the blame around, there is enough of a hot mess to do so.

I don't disagree but to play devils advocate maybe she had contracts with the boutiques with a set amount of inventory before it was made aware that there were going to be supply contraints of this magnitude. Then the decision was made to depend on preorders because long lines for a small amount of in-store inventory was less favorable. Or it was her idea all along to change Apples retail expirience and it all went to hell for us consumers due to that strategy not meshing with supply constraints, high demand and fervent apple fanatics hell bent on day one purchases.

Apple spent many years making the Apple Store experience great. Bring in a retail chief of her notoriety and ya think she's going to leave well off alone? She has to make a dramatic dent, and it isn't going to be Apple-y.

Apple has never had "dummy" products in their stores before her. Go into an ATT or Verizon store and you'll see "dummy" phones.

Now Apple has dummy Watches. And it isn't just the try-on ones that some claim are dummy because they are afraid people might run off with them. The Watches along the walls that are embedded securely are hobbled as well.

It's not a security issue, there are $2,000 laptops, $700 iphones, and $3,000 Mac Pro's that can be clipped from their tethers in 1 second and absconded with. Apple employees, like most employees everywhere are ordered to not physically stop someone.

It's not a question of it "being out in the wild." Many Apple employees were running around with them on and people were taking pictures of them and tweeting them, etc. Those employees weren't hiding them, or disguising them, and - the Watch is now in the hands of thousands of people and those Watches in the stores are still dummy's.

Every Watch in the drawer for my try-on session had a dead battery.

Haha you make a good point. She went from CEO of a company with only 61 stores in the U.S. to Senior VP of in store and online sales of Apple.

We are in a down economy. If anyone would be able to transition a behemoth company such as Apple from being as direct sale focused to more online focused, it is her.

Could her style of sales be an indicator of trying to run stores more lean with less employees in physical stores and more online sales? Only time will tell. This could be a strategy that keeps Apple profits higher despite decreasing sales of computers across the industry.

Forstall wasn't just fired over maps. Why do people keep saying that? He had a long list of issues- senior executives wouldn't sit in on meetings with him, Mansfield was threatening to retire and Ive was threatening to move back to UK over Forstall, he let iOS stagnate and allowed Android to surpass iOS, many reports said he was extremely difficult to work with. The only reason he had his job as long as he did was he was one of Jobs boys from Next. Apple maps was the final straw and only after Tim Cook asked him to publically apologize and he didn't.

There were reports there was cheering and applause among employees when he was forced out.

I honestly don't know if some of what I'm feeling is misogyny, I'll admit that, but she just bugs the crap out of me. She definitely comes across as smug. Besides what has actually occurred with the launch I'll just say I don't like her vibe. Subjective and based on nothing tangible, but I'm just being honest.

If you have ever been into a burberry store before and your not dressed a certain way, you will experience a certain level of smugness from the employees there too lol. Funny thing is they are Working at the store while your the one who can afford to Buy at the store.

Fine, i'll settle with the fact that you, myself and everyone else doesn't know 100% of who is responsible; directly or collectively.
with that being said, taking her out of the equation because you think it's sexist IS sexism.
and again, if everyone is immediately pointing fingers at her…that doesn't mean it's sexism either.
get your fact straight, stay on point and be objective.

That face would've worked better on my poster. Maybe I'll fix it later.
