Well, to be fair, I can think of no full AT&T failure, but there have been dozens of Blackberry outages. There were two back in December that had long downtimes, one in March, and then I stopped paying attention.

While as you say, it's obvious RIM doesn't have one server running the whole show, that doesn't change the fact that RIM is a single point of failure for all Blackberries nationwide. If RIM goes down, so does your device. Not a good situation.

IIRC, if RIM goes down, it doesn't take down your entire phone. I believe BES and BBM is disabled, other than that, you're still able to make phone calls and send/receive texts.

Wow what a concept, apple fanboys on an apple forum. I don't suppose there are many blackberry fanboys lurking around the blackberry forums or the android fanboys lurking around the android forums. If the fanboy attitudes bother you, then you could always leave. Just a suggestion from your friendly apple fanboy.

Right, guess I'll add you to the list of users whose posts I should ignore

OP I laughed at the original post!

Blackberry, seriously?

We have one sitting in a drawer, I would TRULY prefer a dumbphone to that thing.

(I cannot comment on the newest blackberries, this one is like 1.5 years old)

I like android too but iPhone is obviously the most in demand phone of all time.

For christ's sake android has like 5 different manufacturers making phones and they literally give them away (sometimes you get 2 free!) with 2 year agreements and they still barely have more market share than just the iPhone.

If all phones were available on all carriers and had the exact same cost to own (monthly bills, phone cost) then you wouldn't see anything but iPhone's right now.

Also as for BBM, it may be better than texting (if you can even use it), but iPhone 4 has something called Facetime, which far better than just calling someone ;)

So you can't even say the blackberry is better for all social uses.

Angry Birds needs a serious retina display update. They had like 3 updates since the launch of the iPhone 4 and no graphics update. Lazy developers.

They have been busy developing version for Android (which BTW does have better graphics)

Im not going to read the next 4 pages of responses so if this was covered sry... But BB's have a share of the market easily because companies can lock them down to being useful for almost nothing but work(calls and email and calendar)... From what I can tell they cant do that with an iphone but someone correct me if I am wrong. So until that happens for situations where the company does not want to really just give their employees nice toys they have the BB they can give the employee and not be paying for his youtube browsing. Yes I know you can lock programs but I dont know if you can lock them remotely and on a massive scale so quickly as with a BB.

WhatsApp

I use WhatsApp for my BBM-like messaging needs. Allows me to communicate gratis (after paying a measly £0.59 for the app) with BB and iPhone users around the world, including sending text, photos, audio, video and location. Works for me!
