What are you looking for? Help? An opportunity to vent? An apology on behalf of Apple? Unless you have a question, you're wasting our time.

Judging your Macs on the basis of your iPhone is like if I bought a PC and an Xbox, then threw the PC in the garbage because I didn't like the games available on the Xbox.

That said, if you bought all of that at once, allow me to very politely say that you are an idiot. Most people buy one Mac, usually a cheaper Mac, to find out if they like the platform and are comfortable with it. You have only yourself to blame for the £4000 price tag.

this post took the words out of my mouth... the op sounds like a nut. i have only recentelly switched to mac and its with older computers than my newer windows counterparts and i dont miss the constant headaches of windows one bit. there is nothing at all wrong with my g3 imac and my g3 powerbook pismo except the powerbook needs a new battery which is on the way from owc and id much rather use the g3's anytime over my 2 year old windows crapola. os x is far superior than windows in many ways not to mention the virus/malware issues that plaque windows crap. my guess is the op is going to switch to windows as stupid as that is and then come back here complaining he/she got a pile of crap and apple is better
:apple: = rule

microsoft = garbage

Wow your nice and friendly! I'm certainly not a nut. I was recommended apple stuff by a colleague and after trying it decided to convert and replace my computers with it. After over a year I've had enough. People may prefer osx but nobody can say windows 7 is garbage.

Are you just another sheep that follows the last sheep that spouts off that apple is perfect for everything. My decision to move proves otherwise. I could afford 50 iMacs if I wanted but to be honest I'd rather spend my money going abroad every few months.

Just buy what works for your needs. Also face it Flash sucks not just on Macs but also on other non-Windows OSes(Linux & Sun Solaris), it is bloated and lacks being optimized for modern computers so what Steve Jobs said is what most people will agree with(a large number of Windows users hate Flash too). I don't have blind loyalty to OSes/devices, I buy what fits my needs.

Desktop: AMD Athlon 64 2800+(1.8Ghz) dual boot Debian w/Gnome and WinXP. I'm addicted to flight simulators and enjoy my 3 monitor setup... can't do that on a Mac without buying a Mac Pro :(
Notebook: I use a Thinkpad T61(Windows/Solaris x64) & 12" PowerBook... best of both worlds until I move to a MacBook Pro(I'd rather go back to a single notebook).
Mobile Phone: I use a Windows Mobile powered at&t Samsung Jack(had the first Samsung Blackjack), I love having a real QWERTY keypad as I'm from a cold weather area, freedom of browser choice(IE, Opera, etc) and a choice of a media player(can use MS's Media Player or Kinoma Player)... I don't like Apple's uneven rulings of Apps on the iTunes Store.

If I had to buy a new phone now, I'd opt for a WinMo 7 device or a Palm Pre/Pixi... the iPhone still doesn't have enough selling points to change my mind yet. (if the iPhone supported at&t's CelluarVideo, I'd ditch WinMo)

So basically you're just really angry that you didn't bother to research the products properly before making an informed decision to buy. Ok, got it.

"People told me that x product is great and will drive my kids to school for me whilst I relax in bed. I bought five different versions of it. TURNS OUT IT DOESN'T DRIVE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL AT ALL!!! HOW DARE BREVILLE MAKE A SANDWICH MAKER THAT DOESN'T DRIVE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL!!! I'M BUYING A HONDA INSTEAD!!"

I would have to disagree. One person recommends Apple products and this moves you to replace all of your hardware with Apple? And you spent £4000 in the process?!... You don't even think that's slightly nutty?

People may prefer osx but nobody can say windows 7 is garbage.

Plenty of people can say that Windows 7 is garbage. Do you know why? Because it's a matter of opinion. You're allowed to think whatever you want about products or companies regardless of whether your knowledge about them is right or wrong (a bit like your situation with Apple). That's the beauty of free will.

Are you just another sheep that follows the last sheep that spouts off that apple is perfect for everything. My decision to move proves otherwise.
You deduced from g3 powerbookboy's post that he thinks Apple is perfect for everything? The majority of his post is opinionated, and like I've already mentioned, everybody is entitled to their opinion, but the part which I think you judged him on (os x is far superior than windows in many ways not to mention the virus/malware issues that plaque windows crap.) is actually true. OS X IS superior in many ways, and there is no way of denying this. You may not like the features in which it is superior, or you may think there are better alternatives, but it's true on both ends. Windows has many superior features too. Gaming, just as a quick example. Each system is better at certain things than the other, however I'm not going to get into a debate about what exactly is better and what is worse, as I don't have the time.

Your decision to move proves that you aren't a sheep? Your decision to move proves nothing other than that you are unsure on what machine/system suits your needs best. You must have switched in the first place because you were not entirely happy with using Windows, and now you're switching back because your iPhone and the not-yet-released iPad have restrictions on them? You dislike people who say Apple are good at everything, but from this one flaw you find in Apple's mobile hardware you decide Apple are bad at everything? Hypocrite.

I could afford 50 iMacs if I wanted but to be honest I'd rather spend my money going abroad every few months.

All that I can say about this is that it seems you have more money than sense, and that you like to show off. I think that's probably part of the reason why you made this thread.

Go back to Windows. Have a lovely time. I hope not to hear from you in the near future.

My friend had to rebuild his computer recently (with Windows XP because he doesn't have 7 nor do I think it would run on his box). After completing the install he was missing 3 drivers, so I told him to just hit the Windows Update Site to get them or the manufacturers website. Only problem was 1 of the missing drivers was the Ethernet Controller. Fail! Both on his part and that of the OS. However, he also has 2 Macs and so is used to having everything working after a re-install.

Too often as well I have found myself hunting for drivers for hard drives to complete the install.

I got bored of this and so switched to Mac.

Anything I could do on my Windows box I can do on my MBP (I don't do PC gaming)

I won't switch back unless MS give a very good reason, and Windows 7 isn't that reason for me.

That being said, that is for the client OS. I believe that MS Server OS' are very good and very reliable.

Hi,
For instance , i want to use the iphone to its full capabilities its the app store and money. The push email, mobile me , money.

Huh, what? You don't need to spend an extra penny if you want push email. You can do it with Gmail, free of charge.

I may be one of the few people that finds MobileMe to be a good product and a good value for the money, certainly if you don't pay the full $99 retail for it (hint: buy it from Amazon, MegaMacs, or eBay). The sync functionality is a godsend. My two Macs and iPhone stay synced effortlessly: contacts, calendars, Safari bookmarks, and even some third party apps that utilize iSync / MobileMe such as OmniFocus and SOHO Notes.

As for the cost of iPhone apps: I used Palm devices for many years and got used to paying $30-40 for horribly buggy third party apps. The App Store has so many free and inexpensive options, it's kind of crazy. Sorry, but $10 mobile apps that blow away what was available just a few short years ago is not a negative point in my book.

I used to be a customization nut, back when I was in my teens and early 20s. Now that I'm older and busier with more important stuff, I appreciate the value of an interface that's designed to be efficient and intuitive to begin with, no customization required. I've used pretty much every desktop, server, and mobile platform there was to try over the past 20+ years, and Apple's products still do the best job of getting out of my way and letting me get things done.

But to each his own.

Happyfrappy: you can do a three monitor setup on a Mac without buying a Mac Pro. The newer Mac minis have two built-in video outs, and you can buy a USB video adapter to drive that third display. And if you had to buy a phone now, how could you buy a WinMo7 device? They're not going to be out for months...

"Everything is geared around apple taking your money , itunes, appstore, mobileme its never ending.:mad"

Well isn't every company and corporation geared around taking your money also? That's the way the system works. Yours is not a valid argument.

You should be happy with the decisions you've made. As some others already mentioned, if you're not happy, you should sell your equipment and buy something that you feel gives you a superior value for your money.

Nobody's holding a gun to your head to make you buy an Apple product; you either buy because you like it's functionality or style, or you don't. Period.

...and as far as Flash on the iPad goes, well, that's a whole 'nother argument

It's easy to understand that you dislike Apple's ecosystem, but I'm sure no one is forcing you to buy an Apple product.

If you don't like it don't buy it, it's not hard. I'm perfectly happy with everything I've ever purchased from Apple. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have bought them in the first place. Simples.

Agreed. Buy whatever fulfills your needs. To do anything else would be foolish.

OP, we get it, you don't like Macs anymore, making a thread on the matter was a waste of time, although I'm sure you enjoyed wasting everyones time, it's a waste of time none the less.

Mac mini's graphics would be a downgrade from a Radeon 4650 along with the expansion options. My old Athlon 64 box has three HDs, two PATA optical drives & eSATA port... cheaper to do a motherboard, CPU and ram replacement. I'd rather consolidate to a single notebook than a desktop.

As far as WinMo 7 being months away, remember "Developers, developers, developers..."? I'm sure developers will have some kind of access to buy/lease a WinMo 7 development unit kit than a software simulator... I plan on prodding my contacts at MS.
(I'm a WinMo developer & tested the development waters of Android after Google sent me a developer unit, pulling the plug on 20 existing WinMo programs and support gives a bit of leverage)

Hi,

After spending alot on mac stuff im feeling slightly annoyed. I have a 27" imac, 15" macbook pro unibody, iphone 3gs, iphone 3gs for partner. ipad on the agenda and im getting a little fed up of being restricted and paying out all the time.

For instance , i want to use the iphone to its full capabilities its the app store and money. The push email, mobile me , money.

It seems apple have gone down the route of TELLING PEOPLE WHAT THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO AND LOOK AT. For instance the ipad, has no flash, has no way of downloading free stuff apart from the free rubbish in the app store.

I have never spent so much money since i went from windows to apple. My kit upo to yet has cost me in the region of £4000!!! For the same spec going pc and say htc hero i would have halved that outlay. Yes osx is nice and slick, no viruses but god you pay for it!!

I know windows has virus's malware etc etc but im seriously considering selling up, buying the mother of all virus scanners and going back to windows and a pc so i can choose what i want to do, look at, install etc etc

Anyone else feel the same??

Matt

When you fins.d that "mother of all virus scanners" please fill us all in. Win products are infected both WITH and without protection. As to flash, it's controversial even out side the Apple universe. We need to push HTML5 standards and flash (and silverlight) are taking us in the WRONG direction. I have several handheld devices (by Archos and others) that support flash byt still don't support what I guarantee you want to do with your flash on iPad--Hulu and TV.com. Though the Archos 5 and 7 tablets are fully flash capable, Hulu and TV.com block them (by browser.) And while yo're complaining that Apple is making devices that you buy content from them for remember to bash all game console manufacturers, ebook readers...

All those items, including iPad, are cheap because they are planning on you buying content. All would cost 3 times more if you could freely get free content for them. My Kindle is an easy way for me to get my book, magazine, and newspaper fix and I end up paying for easy. Easy is worth some money and you can't have it all.
