Hey MacRumors forums,

Thread title explains it all. But let's make this into two questions:
  1. What do you think Animal Crossing for iOS will actually be?
  2. What do you want Animal Crossing for iOS to be and why?

Official Updates
  1. March 17th, 2015: Nintendo announced that they would be bringing games to Smartphones with its new partnership with Japanese mobile game maker DeNA. (source)
  2. May 8th, 2015: During Nintendo's financial results earnings, Satoru Iwata announces that they will release 5 games by March 2017. (source)
  3. February 2nd, 2016: After their first "game" is released (Miitomo), they announce that the second game will feature a 'familiar' character. (source)
  4. April 27th, 2016: Nintendo announces that they will be making a game based off of Animal Crossing (source)
  5. May 3rd, 2016: Nintendo says they chose Animal Crossing because of the unique demographics it can reach (non-gamers, women, children). (source)
  6. May 11th, 2016: DeNA Chief Executive Isao Moriyasu today mentioned to The Wall Street Journal that Animal Crossing will be a "free-to-start app," which a Nintendo spokeswoman has now confirmed. (source)
  7. July 5th, 2016: Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo's general manager of entertainment planning and development, discussed the possibility of creating physical controllers for smartphones at the company's annual shareholders meeting. (source)
  8. September 7, 2016: Super Mario Run is released ahead of Animal Crossing, prompting a delay in its release. In a press release, Nintendo says the app will still be released by March 31, 2017. (source)
  9. October 12, 2016: Nintendo and DeNA have not said anything to suggest that they do not still plan to release Animal Crossing this fall, though details for the game has been scarce thus far. (source)
As more information is made available, it will be added to this post.

I actually have two theories for the Animal Crossing app, though I think the first is the most likely.

Theory 1:
I think it will be a puzzle-like mini game that allows players to earn bells quickly. These bells allows them to buy things in the game but can also be transferred to the console versions (which is why Nintendo said they would be connected). This game will obviously be free to play (they have confirmed this) and will have IAP.

Theory 2:
They already have a mini-game like app accounted (Super Mario Run), so I think it is possible they make Animal Crossing a full fledged game. Why only release small spin offs? I can see them just porting over the DS or 3DS game and possibly selling controllers (doubt it).

What do you want Animal Crossing for iOS to be and why?
I would love to see a completely new Animal Crossing. I want them to start over rather than just porting the existing game. I also do not want them to release a bunch of new games after, just continue to update this one. Maybe have a way to transfer town from DS to the app? I think they should have notifications that let you know when a villagers birthday party is happening (I always missed those) or when someone would like to visit you. I think people should be able to visit you when your away and talk to villagers and write letters to you. Maybe have a better inventory management solution. I have endless ideas for this game.

I recently discovered this YouTuber, who has a mini-series on the app. The videos are full of creative ideas and he gives all of the latest news and/or rumors. Ill post all the videos here and then post the future ones in new posts.
