Mugen looks just like Spike don't you think?

I thought that, also. I even think Spike and Mugen's voice sound similar, too. One of these days I going to check to see if it's the same person who voices these characters.

Edit: Checked Wikipedia, it's the same person (Steven Blum).

I love the art in CCS, the art in Inu sucks.

and have you seen the Eva movies, absolutely amazing

I have not seen the Eva movies, but I understand they end better than Shinji wanking off and then killing everyone. How lame is that?

I could tell that just by listening to the voice. However, you should really look up the Japanese voice actors, or seiyuu. I think Geneon is localizing Champloo, but I know Bandai did Bebop.

Don't own a whole lot, but apparently I've been watching anime for some time. Used to watch Transformers, The Adventures of Tom Sawyers (very bizarre) and Reboot (which I don't see as anime, but some do) when I was young.

As for now:
Cowboy Bebop
Inuyasha
Escaflowne
Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Saber Marionette J
FLCL

I tend to have more soundtracks than DVD/VHS though as I love Yoko Kanno's music and Maaya Sakamoto's voice. And somehow the animes I enjoy often have Paul Dobson voicing (English) an evil character: Faust-SMJ, Naraku/Myoga-Inuyasha, Folken-Escaflowne, Matrix-Reboot (not really evil there, but still).

I agree with you about Kanno's music. Awesome stuff. I didn't like the escaflowne movie much, to be honest. Saber Marionette J is one of my all time favorite anime. J-X was ok, and J Again was silly. SMJ was so awesome. I admit I had tears in my eyes during the last episode when the girls did what they did.

Agreed on the Escaflowne movie, the show was much better. The movie attempted a different direction and it didn't quite work.

At risk of sounding like an old fogey...

My favorite "Japanimations" were Mighty Atom, Speed Racer, Kimba, Space Cruiser Yamato, Galaxy Express and Harlock. And later ones like... Akira.

Hey, what do you know, I am an old fogey!

Speed Racer is good. Space Cruiser Yamato (Starblazers) is really good. I also like Gumdam, Justice League, Batman Beyond, and Teen Titans.

I never saw the show. I heard they were going to dub it for Fox Saturday morning or something. Did that ever happen?

lem0n, some anime has higher budgets than others. Just like in American cartoons, some anime has great animation and some is very cheap. I see you are from Vietnam. Isn't your country doing some animation now? I heard they were looking past Korea for a lot of cheaper animation solutions.

The last three are not considered anime, as they are American shows. However, Teen Titans is obviously taking a lot from the Anime way of doing things.

Has anyone seen The Air Bender on Nick Friday nights? That's basically American anime, as well. It's actually pretty cool. Lots of action. I wish the main character was older so he wouldn't talk like a girl, though.

some anime

Here's some of my anime. I have two more shelves full below. The top three shelves are double stacked, so there's more dvds behind. The bottom shelf you can see is all Urusei Yatsura.

[EDIT]Why is this sideways? It's straight up on my Mac. Weird.[/EDIT]

give Bubble Gum Crisis and BGC 2040 a try. They're good cyber-punk animes.
I'd say skip BGC 2040. It's a semi-remake of the first series, and not quite as good. Bubble Gum Crash is pretty good though.

I'm enjoying that quite a bit I think the same people who made Cowboy Bebop did that, because Mugen looks just like Spike don't you think?

Steven
Both series were directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, who also co-directed Macross Plus, and one of the Animatrix shorts. him + Yoko Kanno for music = pwnage

I'm not going to list all the anime I've watched yet again, I should just make a list on my website and refer everyone to that. I only own 4 anime DVDs (so far) because I'm usually broke, and manga is less expensive (I have 94 volumes of varying series, all bought since last april/may-ish  )

Anyways... anyone else here going to Otakon next weekend? :D

You are correct. Geneon has released at least the first 3 DVD volumes. I have the first 2, and they did a good job on them. But of course they did, that's what Geneon (formerly Pioneer) does

They also charge a lot. :)

You're crazy. BGC 2040 was amazing. The original series had horrible songs (except maybe for Mad Machine) and lame plots. BGC 2040 had character development that was intense and so well written, I watched the last 3 dvds straight through.

Didn't he also do Excel Saga? I think the dude with the big afro that was always in and out of the show was Mr. Watanabe. They all used their afro powers at the end of the show and they did a massive DBZ parody with it. Funny stuff.

It's funny. I started studying Japanese years ago so that I could read manga. Now I can, but I am not really interested in it anymore. Ironic, isn't it? :)

Where is that one? This girl I used to date would always go to some convention in San Jose and another somewhere on the east coast every year. I don't like conventions. I hate seeing fat dudes dressed up like Sailor Moon.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't involved in Excel Saga (just picked up Vol 13 of that manga today :D along with some other stuff*) You should watch Puni Puni Poemi if you liked Excel Saga. Same crew, with the afro dude and everything. ****ing hilarious!

Ironic, I guess. Your loss though. :p

Otakon is in Baltimore. Biggest conference of its type on the east coast, probably the country, and possibly the world! The registration cap is 22,000 this year, and when I looked yesterday, there were about 2,100 registration spots left.
I don't like conventions. I hate seeing fat dudes dressed up like Sailor Moon.
I am hoping and praying that Man Faye does NOT make an appearance

*other stuff: Steamboy on DVD (w00t! :D) Vol 3 of Blade of the Immortal, Vol 6 of Oh My Goddess. $58.14 total. Thankfully, today was tax-free shopping day in MA (the closest Borders!)

I saw all the Eva movies and really got into them in the begining but as you progressed through the series it just got more and more bizarre. The movie just didn't make any sense to me when I saw it, maybe I just need to see it a second time to soak everything in. That movie had stuff coming at you at a mile a minute.

But as for picks some of the best that I have watched but haven't seen in a while was "Ninja Scroll", "Princess Mononoka" and "Grave of the Fireflies". Fireflies still always makes me tear at the end (very hard thing for me to do for any movie, especially an anime).

So this is my dark and dirty secret as well...

I prefer dubbed over subtitles in anime. Other Foreign movies I'll prefer subtitles but I just cant get into a anime movie if its subtitles.

Please tell me I'm not the only one. :p

Same here. Subtitles bug the hell out of me, and I lose a good bit of the emotion/expression in Japanese that I would have picked up in English.
