The evangelion movies are absolutely the most amazing things ever EoE (end of evangelion) is outrageously awesome. and best of all it is in 6.1 DTS!!!!!!

I could film myself pinching a loaf after a week of buffets and holding it in, and mix all the audio in 6.1 DTS, and it'd still be me pinching a loaf. Not making fun of the movies, only saying... :)

So this is my dark and dirty secret as well...

I prefer dubbed over subtitles in anime. Other Foreign movies I'll prefer subtitles but I just cant get into a anime movie if its subtitles.

Please tell me I'm not the only one. :p

I studied Japanese for many years, but haven't had much practice with conversation. As such, if I listen to the Japanese I tend to focus on what they're saying rather than reading the subtitles, and since I'm thinking I am not enjoying the show. (Let's face it, you don't think when you watch tv.) So, I tend to use dubs unless the dub is just horrible. That often happens.

But as for picks some of the best that I have watched but haven't seen in a while was "Ninja Scroll", "Princess Mononoka" and "Grave of the Fireflies". Fireflies still always makes me tear at the end (very hard thing for me to do for any movie, especially an anime).

You know what made me tear up as a 14 and 15 year old boy? Lufia I and Lufia II. Both games were so emotional they actually made me cry, and these were just SNES RPGs. Scary huh?

Oh, I forgot to mention. I have Puni Puni Poemi. In fact, in the dub, when talking about the Asu sisters, I laughed immensely when Puni Puni Poemi mentioned getting a piece of Asu. (the u is silent)

Actually, David Lucas did Spike's voice scenes in Cowboy Bebop (It's Blums Screen name). He's also done voices in Wolf's Rain, X (the TV series), FLCL, Great Teacher Onizuka and a ton more. check out his profile
here

Yoko Kanno has a lot of relationships with Anime Directors. She's done soundtracks for multiple people on multiple projects, and continues to be the best composer around (take a look at Ghost In The Shell: SAC or Wolf's Rain or Macross Plus or Cowboy Bebop's OST's, they're amazing.) Her vocalist, Gabriella Robin is amazing. Wish I could find a picture of her, cos if she's as hot as her voice....YABBA!

Dubbed only goes when it's done well. GTO's voice dubbing was horrible. Excel Saga....God, I hope the voice actors get shot. After seeing 1 episode dubbed at an anime shop (and had seen over half the series fansubbed before it's USA release, mind you), I found my ears bleeding. Ruined the hole series for me and I can never watch it again.

The ORIGINAL dub to Akira was awesome. It's sad they didn't keep some of the best lines for the re-dub (circa 2000). Sure, there were some crappy lines in the original and it wasn't translated over to the best it could have been, but hearing Tetsuo's "Bitchin! I feel like I can take on the whole world today!" was always such fun.

I've watched Ghost in the Shell, GitS 2: Innocence and (I belive) all of GitS: SAC.. as well as some of 2nd GIG.

Watched part of Yu-Gi-Oh! with a friend, but we got bored halfway through (I'm not sure if we even got that far).
Watched part of a series about a boy that finds a female android in the trash or something. It was painfully bad. Don't remember the name.

Generally, if the main cast consist mostly of kids, there's a good chance I won't like it.

Guess my interest in anime is limited to Ghost in the Shell...

On another note, I prefer subbed to dubbed. Dubbing just doesn't sit well with me. Don't know a single word of Japanese.

Ugh i hated GITS: SAC (because originally director didn't help on it) but in the 2nd gig he is working on it, which means i will watch it

I was into anime much more a few years ago. I'd like to get into it more but I have a little trouble finding series that can feed my interest yet not drag on too long.

My Favorites are probably Fooly Cooly (aka FLCL), it's just strange, I love that. The other is probably Perfect Blue, if Disney made a Psychotic triller it'd be that. :D

I also own Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke the Animatrix as well as the Escaflowne series and the Cowboy Bepob series. The latter two I bought off of ebay and I'm almost positive they're counterfeit.

Recently I've been watching a series called Bleach, it's pretty good and for the most part I enjoy it but now it's starting to get on my nerves the way it's been dragging on.

I hope you're not talking about Mamoro Oshi. His renditions of Ghost In the Shell are HORRIBLE, as was RONIN, as was anything he's ever done. The first movie is based on the first graphic novel. Only, it's about 1/3 of the whole story line. And there were no fuchikomas (now known as Tachikomas).

GITS:SAC OWNS GITS the movie.

And the series (two-part OVA) of the boy finding a robot girl in the trash, known as GUNM or Battle Angel Alita, is awesome. You go to hell. You go to hell and you die. It's a shame GUNM didn't get animated into a full sized show. God, how awesome that would be.

I *seriously* doubt we're talking about the same thing here.

Battle Angel Alita?

There was no battle in the series I watched, that's for sure. Unless you're talking about the battle going on in the main characters pants.

No, it was no hentai. But I was half-excepting it to be become one. Maybe it did, but I stopped watching it before it went far.

If going to hell means I don't have to be in the same existence as this series, then I don't mind.

Edit: Well, I digged some stuff up about Battle Angel Alita. I'm pretty sure now it's not the same thing. It has a concept I could actually like. The artwork I found were the first clue.

Also; Battle Angel on IMDB. Scheduled for a 2007 release. Not drawed or 3d rendered though. Seems to be Live action. OOoops.

Counterfeit,

Sorry for messing up the directors. Oops. :)
You should be more worried about misspelling my name!

That series about the boy finding an android in the trash was probably Chobits.

The Battle Angel OVA sucked. It covered a grand total of 2 of the nine volumes of the GUNM/Batle Angel Alita series. It did use the main character's original name though.

Could you possibly imagine anyone managing to make a Shirow manga into a 2 hour movie? I don't think it's possible. Also, the movie and the series are really completely separate from each other, and neither have Shirow's humor in them (the game does though :D). That's part of why I didn't like the new Appleseed. It looked ****in amazing, but they almost completely changed the relationship between Deunan and Briarios, and really cut corners on the music (half was the stuff they hyped, the other half was MIDI voiced). Heck, even the assassins were completely based on the suits from Bubble Gum Crisis/Crash (not that they're bad, but Shirow can do some damn fine mechanical designs himself. Like the tanks in the opening scene. completely his style there)

Of course Bleach is going to drag on, it's based on a Shonen Jump manga  just like Naruto (170+ episodes  ) and others.

I hope James Cameron doesn't cast the wrong person for the main role in Battle Angel, that part will make or break the movie.

I never saw the show. I heard they were going to dub it for Fox Saturday morning or something. Did that ever happen?

Steven

Yes, Fox did do that, but they toned down the violence and language, made an "English" version intro (i.e. replaced Maaya Sakamoto's) and dropped the series about halfway through right before an immense battle.

I believe that Bandai now has the entire TV series dubbed in a much more complete manner than Fox had it.

Come to think of it, there's a lot of "finding girls in trash heaps" kinds of Anime. Battle Angel, Chobits, Buttobi CPU (I Dream of Mimi, eck). Yeah, i wasn't too amused by Chobits either.

As for AppleSeed, you have to admit it was a lot better than the original Anime. Better than the Manga? No, not at all, but WAY better than the original anime.

Speaking of Shirow, if you haven't read GITS 2: Man-machine interface, don't. The art is amazing, but the story is this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of bounds philisophical, dramatic and rather boring BS that I think Shirow was on drugs to create. Kind of like ol' Walt and Fantasia.

And, as one of you mentioned Bleach and Naruto being VERY long, I agree. Some things just need to end. I would hav eloved to see another Season of Cowboy Bebop, or Wolf's Rain, or tons of other Anime, but those were all PERFECT the way they were.

Now, Trigun was horrible for the fact that it screwed around with all of these stupid episodes while they could have gone on with the story. Then the last two DVD's they cram in as much info as they can. GAH! Torture.

Eh? The sales tax that I get taxed on every single receipt shows 8.25%...

The bay area counties are higher. Alameda county recently voted a .5% increase in sales tax for a health clinic for deadbeats and illegal aliens.

The state tax itself is either 7.25% or 7.75% i forget.

I live in Fremont, btw. Close to you.

7.75 is the minimum, you get county taxes and such added on later.

Looks like Crimson beat me to it. As soon as I finish graduate school, which is cheap because of our outrageous taxes here, I'm fleeing to a lower taxed state. Thanks for the help, California taxpayers. :)

I thought Trigun was ok. Did anyone else notice how light it started and then how dark it became? Scary.

Chobits did the same thing (sorta)

Have you read the Trigun mangas, they are also bad.

I couldn't really get past the opening scene of the first Appleseed anime. It just never clicked for me.

I have MMI, and yeah, it's ****ed up. The entire second half, which is in wonderful color, was so out there, I don't think a sober person (heck, most people whacked out on anything you could imagine) wouldn't be able to understand it. Fantasia on the other hand, was/is some animation directors expressing what they hear in the music, put into animation.

And, as one of you mentioned Bleach and Naruto being VERY long, I agree. Some things just need to end. I would hav eloved to see another Season of Cowboy Bebop, or Wolf's Rain, or tons of other Anime, but those were all PERFECT the way they were.
Kind of hard to do a second season when the protagonist dies
