Anker this week recalled its Anker Soundcore (A3102) and PowerConf (A3302) speakers because the lithium battery inside can overheat, resulting in a fire hazard.

Anker sold approximately 69,000 units in the United States, and 9,764 in Canada. All of the affected speakers were sold through Amazon between March 2023 and October 2023 and have model numbers of A3102016, A3302011, or A3302031.

Amazon users who purchased an Anker speaker can check to see if they have an affected model by looking for the SN code on the underside of the device and entering it on the Anker website. Anker and Amazon have contacted known purchasers.

There have been 33 reports of incidents where the lithium-ion batteries in the speakers overheated, resulting in smoking and small fires. There has been one minor burn injury associated with one of the malfunctioning speakers.

Customers who have a faulty speaker should stop using it, turn it off, and contact Anker for a replacement speaker.

They also recalled a bunch of power banks recently for the same reason. I like their products overall but this is a bad trend.
They weren’t Anker afaik. They were baseus, a different brand. (Mine was affected and I got a full refund)

Thank goodness it's only a tiny number of speakers to recall. I bought a few as gifts, but back in 2017. These affected are the 2023-early 2024 models.

Anker makes wonderful chargers, power strip and cables. If all of the affected speakers were sold on Amazon, does this imply that anker had separate manufacturing for Amazon-distributed speakers? This would only be true if the speakers weren't sold anywhere else but Amazon.

I used to be a big fan of Anker products, particularly chargers and cables. In my experience they last forever.
But my recent Anker Prime powerbank just died after a few months of moderate use. And it was not a "cheap" product.
I think they should refocus and improve QC.

Unfortunately I’m one of the people that really Does not likes this company. For many reasons I just don’t wanna waste my time and money with this lack of support and prices being extremely unreasonable times. I’d rather buy original Apple products. And this stuff if you like it good. To each their own Almost every product that had failed. Their power cords were disaster their power banks were hit or miss on mostly a mess. Power connectors were a total Disaster. I will not buy any product from this company ever again

From my experience, their audio products are never reliable. Bluetooth modules are apparently cheap and unreliable. Many are returned. I'm always thankful that my power banks, which are older, are very reliable. As they became more popular, they'd probably decided to make more of a profit.

Anker has the worst electronics I’ve ever experienced. Complete garbage and it’s a disgrace that this and other sites promote their products for $$ without specifying the posts are sponsored. Trash company. DO NOT BUY

Those global corporates sell their products world wide. Many people around the world in places like Venezuela and Nepal are going to have Anker explosive speakers without ever knowing about it and probably no recall programs.

Apple doesn't sell portable BT speakers or mobile battery chargers (anymore) unfortunately. I always hoped they'd do a portable speaker but they haven't.

Otherwise I do tend to agree. If you're in the Apple ecosystem, it's often just easier to buy Apple. Recently I replaced my old APP1 with a Black Friday deal on Nothing Ear A. But I think in the long run, I'd have been better off just getting the AP4 with NC for the extra 100 odd bucks. I didn't even think that I couldn't use Hey Siri with the NEAs and the lag isn't great on video even with the low lag mode turned on (and you have to turn it on each time which is a PITA). They do look good and sound decent for the price though. NC is average. Not bad for the price though.

So totally agree when there is an Apple product available, pay the premium if you can, it'll make your life easier.
