Those Anker speakers are Hot.
Never saw a need for external speakers as the ones in a MBA/P are good and minimalistic plus I have AirPods for private listening. Sure audiophiles will claim otherwise but I doubt these portable external speakers are much of an improvement.

For the rare instance of parties it still seems like a waste. In the shower I place my iPhone in a dry location and the speakers are loud enough. What’s the point of all this e-waste then recall and recycle, serious question?

I have an Anker Soundcore but mine is not affected by the recall. I use mine with my Xiegu G90 HF radio and it works well. I bought mine in October 2024.

Yeah current MBP speakers are great, good enough for Music listening casually. I think most are using Bluetooth speakers with their phones

Surprised at pre-existing the Anker hate. I've bought a bunch of their cables and chargers and none have been an issue. Never bought a power bank or speaker though.

Apple doesn't sell portable BT speakers or mobile battery chargers (anymore) unfortunately. I always hoped they'd do a portable speaker but they haven't.
For better or worse, I think the Apple portable speaker is the Beats Pill. Or, rather, I think Apple believes it doesn't have to have its own competitor in that space, because it owns the Beats Pill. From what I understand, also, you can run a HomePod mini off a (sufficiently beefy) external battery, as well - definitely not ideal.

I was surprised too. I've got a whole bunch of Anker cables, power banks, and chargers, some going back at least a decade, others purchased as recently as this month. Never had a problem with any of them, and they're my go-to when I need cables, batteries, or charging equipment.

(Back when I was playing Ingress heavily, 2014-2016, everyone playing used external batteries, because the game eats battery, and people tried all sorts of batteries, but it turned out about 80% of them ended up using Anker.)

It was pun intended, lol.

iPhone speakers compared to the competition is quite good and unless in a party or group setting there is always AirPods. How many portable type speakers do we need filling the market with e-waste, most of these products or accessories with batteries get recalled after X amount of years.

Your iPhone uses Chinese made batteries, so does Tesla.
Correct however at least I know the manufacturer is high quality and who makes the cells, unlike Anker products, they tell you nothing and unless you destroy the product you don't know who made what. All my power bank products are made by Sharge (formerly Shargeek) and most of their products use Samsung 16850 cells and their other products use 21700 automotive cells - not one product has had a single issue ever.
