$250 for a talking mini forklift. Count me out.
This seems appropriate.

Vector seems cool in theory, not $250 cool though. Reminds me of Nabaztag Rabbit.

Amazes me people put so much effort into something that has zero purpose due to a) Fact a smart phone can provide all the smart features b) Limited movement, so unable go be a true robot.
c) If someone needs an artificial companion, they need help from family, friends or community.

Evolution. This would not exist without its predecessor. And the future "useful" robot you expect would not exist without this.

Babies are "useless" in the same sense, but grow into productive adults. Technology is no different, so why not just enjoy it for what it is?

I'd rather have a robot than those silly speaker/CIA bugs that amazon/apple/google offer. At least a robot can (hopefully someday soon) be roving security.

Ever see iRobot? Doubt it if you still want a security robot.

I heard someone is developing this thing called Skynet.. it's going to have a killer OS.

Love the ‘Baby’ analogy!
This is how I see fledgling companies, they’re just starting out and need the backing and investment from consumers to further their products and encourage them to keep going.
No new company has come out with their best product in their first few years and not improved upon it over the following years, Apple took over 10 years to get the iPhone where it is now.
If people show interest in Vector (like the coding community has with Cozmo) in 10 years time they should have a pretty amazing home robot!

snip...with maybe the exception that it offers an iOS app, is pretty far removed from Apple.
How Anki Achieved Every Startup's Dream of Launching at an Apple Event
"Fewer than 10 minutes into the keynote event at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference Monday, CEO Tim Cook did something unusual: He ceded the stage to an unknown startup.
"This morning, I'd like to introduce you to Anki," Cook told a room full of developers, employees and members of the press gathered to hear about Apple's product plans. "They're launching their company for the first time on stage today."

I think this looks cool and fun, not $250 but hopefully it'll come down a bit. Can't believe how many misogs there are on this forum though. Probably the same ones who moan about the Pixel colour names, should try lightening up a little and see the fun in things. Might enjoy life a bit more.

Look! Until someone recreates a life size BB8 or R2 Unit (that works) then I’m not going anywhere near this!

Or maybe ‘JARVIS’

That looks nothing like Vector. Does MacRumors plan to do stories on every product from every company that Apple has ever invited to a keynote event? Should I also expect press releases for new albums from artists that payed the credits of events?

Not gonna play that game.
Pretty clear what was inferred by the response.
You said it was pretty far from Apple, with no qualifier as to what far from Apple is to you.
The link provided shows the opposite, Apple helped give them a head start.

If you want answers to those questions address MacRumors directly, I don't work for them.

I inferred that I was right. Other than a few min to demo a product that no one wanted even when Toys R Us was closing. These people make clever products, but their 15 minutes of fame doesn't make them Apple noteworthy.

Regardless, this read as a press release, and considering how many outlets provided sponsored ads for them it's only fitting that we assume this is sponsored content as well. MacRumors has gotten better at self-identifying this sort of content - but they do miss them occasionally.

I was asking them with my original question.

I bought this for my son for last Christmas, not this model obviously but their "toy" counterpart. It was compelling and entertaining.....for 8 hours. Was immediately returned.

The novelty wore off quickly as I'm sure this one will as well, since it's just it's glorified counterpart with built in Siri/Alexa.

No, you haven't.

Well, that would be an opinion.
Obviously this site thought different.
You always have the option to run your own sight (or blog) and have other critique what you deem newsworthy.

So what?
This site is free.

It’s called integrity. And there are ads on this site, so no, it’s not free.

Baby grows, learns and can do many things. On the other hand this will always be just a little forklift. If lucky, in a next few generations, it will be able to scoop your pet’s poop
