I was thinking the same thing. We'll know in an hour or so...Anyone else considering buying the 12.9" Pro instead, if the rumors about the 9.7" are true? The initial sticker shock of $799 deterred me initially, but now that there are some discounts we are talking about paying ~$50 more for more screen real estate. I should be able to recoup that in a couple years when I trade it in.
Then one thing that worries me is how some of my favorite apps (tweetbot) have yet to be updated for the larger screen.
Yea...has nothing to do with the new timing chip, the ridiculous amount of power the a9x has, the new panel assembly that has a variable refresh rate, this is more than your usual spec bump.Right now a 32 GB iPad Air is $449. An upgraded iPad Air 3 would've cost the same.
The 9.7" iPad Pro (32 GB) will be $599.
So Apple just raised the prices of their new 9.7" tablets just because of the Pro name.

But yea, they just changed the name so that's the only difference.
Each year they did the same kind of upgrades and the price stayed the same.
This year, on top of the regular updates, they're going to add new screen tech for Pencil support, label the iPad as "Pro" because of that, and charge more. For someone who doesn't care about the Pencil this is just like an iPad Air 3 which costs more. It's as simple as that.
Well boo hoo that you don't care about the pencil, that doesn't change the TSOC chip and new display tech that went into this.
Get what you need, you're owed nothing, especially not a lesser upgrade to save a few bucks.

I already have the bigger iPad Pro and the Pencil![]()
And maybe they will announce something else new about the iPad Pros.

I think that Apple is positioning things for a price drop on the 9.7 Pro in the Fall. (at least that's my hope)For anyone that simply wanted an ipad air 3, there is no option. The ipad air 2 is 18 months old now - will there even be an air 3 in the fall? Right now they have a $200 gap between the air 2 and the new pro which seems too big.
That would piss a lot of people off too.I think that Apple is positioning things for a price drop on the 9.7 Pro in the Fall. (at least that's my hope)
There are already those who bought the 12.9 Pro complaining about the 9.7 Pro. Apple's response, "deal with it".That would piss a lot of people off too.

Here was no indication the 9.7" pro is as thin as the air and it has a stupid protruding camera lens. So I will stick with my air 2.Why are you annoyed? What does it matter if it's called Air 3 or Pro? It's going to be an upgraded 9.7" iPad.
From a supply chain perspective...no it wasn't. Apple had a display partner ready to go in manufacturing that display. That seems harsh. So what if Apple put a different screen or timing chip in? They put a screen with 4x the pixels in the ipad 3 and didn't charge more for it. That was a more justifiable technical jump than anything they put in the ipad pro.
What exactly should they do?There are already those who bought the 12.9 Pro complaining about the 9.7 Pro. Apple's response, "deal with it".
Nothing. I was simply responding to another poster who was concerned about customer complaints. What exactly should they do?
IMO, the only iPad Pro owners who have a legitimate gripe would be those who were looking for a 256GB capacity. These complaints always happen in some way after a keynote. My iPad Pro is still the same it was yesterday. The complaints are kind of silly.
