I was pretty skeptical initially about the report from the other guy who emailed Tim Cook and got a call from an executive relations team member, but taking his cue, I sent a similarly assertive, disgruntled email to tcook@apple.com, specifically commenting on the space grey model's lack of updates. To be honest, like many of you, I care way more about playing with a new  product than i do about which color it is, and I expressed that  had been transparent about the availability I may have chosen another model.

I sent it a couple days ago. To my surprise, I got a phone call from a "Grapevine, TX" number, and a woman with a very strong french accent told me she was from Apple's Executive Relations Team.

OKAY SO, Here's the info she gave me

There have been some issues with my "specific configuration", meaning the 38mm Space Grey Sport, and they are working as fast as they can to get them out. She re-iterated that the two week delivery window is very much an added cushion, and it will be very unlikely first wave orders will be delivered later than next week.

She also told me something that I hope is true, but seems contradicted by some posts I've seen here, assuming everyone here has been honest. She told me that exact order times are being honored very diligently, according to model. She specifically told me, and I quote, "No person who ordered the space grey 38mm sport model after you will receive it before you"

Maybe this is boring, but as I found it rather exciting, I thought I'd Share

UPDATE: She just sent me an email, I'll include the text here for completionism's sake. (I was wrong about French. It was a Portuguese accent)

Dear Sean,

Thank you again for your time and for bringing your concerns to my attention. Please contact me if you have any additional questions about your order.

I can be reached at 512-674-****. I am available Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m CST.

To avoid confusion, my voicemail message is in both Portuguese and English with the Portuguese positioned first.

Kind regards,

Saying as people that had eta in May are getting shipping notification I think we can safely assume she is kind of wrong.

But that's awesome you got a call!

Thanks for the update. I've got to wait for 90 minutes worth of 42mm Space Gray watches to ship and process before I'll see mine.

I hope you're right :)

But did those people order the 38mm sport space grey? Or did they order other watches? In which case what she says would be true.

I'd be inclined to believe someone on the Executive Relations team, heh.

Of course there are going to be some cases where logistics come into play and not everything happens in the exact order it should. The point is that they are trying to ensure that it does happen that way as much as they can. I never doubted that anyway.

I believe she is correct as the ones getting the watch earlier seem to be of different models. I have not seen anyone with a later time of the same exact model in the same country getting a watch before others. Maybe she forgot to add the country specific clause.

Right. She said by model. That seems relatively accurate at this point.

Have we seen a single instance of a person with a late delivery date getting a shipment notification before someone with an earlier date and the exact same model?

Space Gray Apple Watch Sport is the new White iPhone 4.

she was really polite and seemed to genuinely understand my frustration. I mean a little of it is just me being impatient and wanting my new toy, but it is sort of hard to plan for a shipment you have to sign for and be home to get without having anything more than a vague two week window

(I edited out her personal details because i think I'm supposed to?)

I think they probably ATTEMPTED to follow a first-come-first-served delivery system, but I've seen posts of at least one other person who ordered after me who is receiving the same model of watch that I ordered.

The issue with 21st century mass public communication of order details is that even if a fraction of a percent of orders is fulfilled out of order, it's visible for all to see.

It kills me that they'll say anything to avoid saying "I'm sorry, you won't get it tomorrow" a little honesty would be appreciated.

This sucks.

Let's face it. Anyone who hasn't received a tracking number and hasn't been charged will not get it until next week.

I also have a 38mm SG Sport purchased at _:04 and have received zero updates except that crappy email.

Just look forward to your weekend and do the stuff normally do.

I give up hope at this point and look forward to next week.

In all fairness, you can't know for sure that person was being truthful.

Keep your Matrix "There is no spoon" thoughts to yourself. :)

There is always the possibility that someone will lie on here. But I trust him because:

  1. He's Canadian.
  2. He's been a long-time forum member and his previous post history isn't inflammatory, jocular or misleading. And he's a good speller.

wow. this is exciting news!

Apple gives a delivery window of 4/24 - 5/8

And Apple claims that people in that window will get it...wait for it...within that window!!

Is water still wet?

Entitled people are just upset that they are given a delivery window and they aren't getting it the first day. Must be really hard to work at Apple and deal with issues like this...but we told them when they ordered what the delivery window is!

That's not true at all. Have you ever pre ordered any other product during an Apple launch? If so, you should know that items still get moved to shipping status throughout the night before the launch day.

Condescending, unnecessary, and not really 100% on the point. This is something for which people are spending arguably large amounts of money, something that was advertised as a 4.24 launch for weeks before preorders went live. Its a package you have to sign for, so for planning's sake it would be nice to have something more firm than a two week window. I've been preordering from  for years and really never seen anything like this launch.

People are excited for this product, and if you don't want to share in that excitement, then this forum is really not for you

4.24 is the earliest date when you can possibly get the watch. That promise was never broken. The iPhone was advertised to be available in September at a certain date. Guess what, when I walked into the Apple store on that date, I couldn't get one! Can I say Apple broke their promise?
The promise that Apple has made to you is the 04/24-05/08 window. And that, it seems, is not broken, yet.

That simply isn't true. It takes 8 hours to ship from anywhere in the US and get it to the local hub to place on a truck. Some people haven't gotten shipping notices (myself included) because we don't need to get them yet. It will ship tonight and I'll have it tomorrow. Been there, done that.

agree 100%. Every time I get an iPhone on launch day I don't get a shopping notice until like 3AM Friday morning. Sometimes after I receive the package. I must live close to a warehouse.

I won't give up until tomorrow afternoon. I'm living proof processing when I go to bed Thursday night means nothing.
