Thanks to those that replied. Can you do a screen shot? I do not see on my Air what is being described.

A screenshot won't work, someone would have to take an actual photo of their iPad displaying the issue.

Someone mentioned geniuses will never cop to seeing the issue and I can say I also experienced this. Only after saying that because I saw it and it was my iPad did the genius begrudgingly replace my iPad 3.

I also to have the yellow tint on the left side of the screen. Not sure what to do.
Take it back, wait for a few months and get another, or try an exchange.:(
My ipad 3 looks perfect!

Same here, just picked up a 64GB LTE Space Grey yesterday and immediately noticed that the left side of my screen (portrait) is consistently dimmer and also has a slight green tint. Not sure if I should stick with it or get it replaced. Everything else is perfect. Don't want to go through the hassle of finding the perfect one (is there even such a thing lol). Guess I have a whole year to decide lol

Interestingly my iPad 3 has a much more yellow tint on the right side of the screen. It's also less contrasty on the iPad 3.

I tried adjusting the brightness setting a few times while reading an ebook using the Kindle app. That is the whitest background I can think of. I have no issue.

Not sure if this is a good enough picture. The top looks more brownish yellow than the bottom.

This might be a naive question but doesnt anyone check the display models to see if the screen is off the mark.... or are those looking fine?

I mean...the screen quality is the make or break for a device like this.

You guys are picky. I can't see crap wrong with either of those screenshots. At least not anything I would obsess about.

I would not say that totally and I appreciate the shots but I do not see anything being described on this thread as an issue with my Air. Guess I have to see it in person with one that has it to justify your opinion.

I have a 128GB WiFi + Cellular with yellow tint on the left side. It only seems to be an issue on very light cool colors or my eyes aren't sensitive enough. Everything else is perfect. If the Genius Bar will not swap, the only choice is to return in 14 days. I'm not sure if I want to deal with swapping back and forth. Is it worth it?

Here's how you check: Find a white image on google , save it to your camera roll...open the image in your camera roll. Tap the screen until the menu disappears and you only have a white background, make sure brightness is up and screen is clean of any fingerprints.....

Proceed to inspect!

I got lucky, my display is perfect, no back light problems, bleeds, uneven color, display is truely gorgeous.

While I was waiting to pick up my ipad, I inspected others and noticed a couple with a dark shadow on the left side of the display while in portrait mode .

Out of the four models I inspected, 3 of them had the issue, with varied degrees of darkness...only one out if the four was severe enough to warrant a replacement IMO.

I think it has to do with the magnet for the Smart Cover along the left side of the ipad.

If you put two ipad airs next to one another they attract and repel each other. A magnet can effect a display if close enough, correct? Since the bezels are smaller, the magnet may be closer to the internal display, creating these issues in some iPads.

that's my two cents!

So I just popped by the apple store in Southampton, UK and had a fiddle around with their demo units. Out of the 6 on display, only 1 had a completely uniform backlit screen with minimal color tint as far as my eyes could tell. The other 5 had varying levels of uneven backlight dimness, all occurring on the left side of the display. With the dimness comes also a shift in color accuracy, it appears to be a greenish tint. I don't feel so bad about my unit now :p Would probably keep it till the last week of its 1 year warranty and do a swap (given that Apple staff agree with me on a 'defective' panel).

So, the issue is certainly present in the small sample size that I've just observed. Whether or not that bugs you depends on your tolerance for the varying screen qualities. Some people are OCD with their display panels and others wouldn't even notice it at all.

If you got a perfect [ in your view at least ] display, don't go looking for faults...just be thankful and enjoy!

My iPad 2/3/4 had milky whites and almost no light bleed... Loved them!!

This new iPad Air [ or iAir as I call it ] is so bad [ especially under low ambient light ] that I had to switch back to my iPad 4 for comfortable viewing!

Imagine reading the left side text in yellow and as you're eye moves along to the right the display changes to first bluish...then pinkish...

This is stressful for the eye and takes away from the pleasure of using a device that is ..well..100% display based!

After all these iPad refreshes and a price skimming strategy, I don't understand why Apple is not able to deliver a reliable and consistent display!!

Are you experiencing uneven backlighting, color shift or both of them together?

My iPad 3 had a strong yellow hue toward the right side of the screen, but I lived with it. My 2011 MacBook Air display was dimmer on he bottom edge. In the end I got used to all of them.

It's well known that retina displays suffer yeild production problems. Apple sources their stuff from the same factories as every other manufacturer, and is susceptible to bad batches and sketchy quality control. Early adopters are most likely to be affected, as they're getting the first untested batch. Best course of action is to return it and swap it for another. Apple charges a healthy markup, ability to return is built into the cost. Apple wants to keep their customers happy after all. No need to get stressed about it.

Exactly.

The best way to tell is to go to a Apple store and lay your ipad next to a display unit. They cherrypick only the good ones for display. My ipad 3 had a urine yellow pallor over the whole screen. I actually didn't notice at first until my buddy showed me his which was cooler, and much brighter. The other side effect was that the battery lasted a much shorter time, due to me cranking the brightness.

I showed the two side by side, and the employee admitted he could see the difference, and began the exchange process. His manager caught wind of it, and seemed pissed, but he had already said yes.

The replacement was 100% perfect.

I am intending to buy my air at the Aplle store for this exact reason. I will not sign the credit card slip until I hold it up against a display model to prove I have a good manufacturers screen.

Lol good luck with getting to open the box and inspect before you pay. It doesn't work like that, at least in the U.S.

From experience, it's best not to take the offensive when you walk into a store. You get far more bees with honey.

Same. Exact. Issue here too

Left side, piss yellow...slowly fading into a bluish pink right side...

Happens every damn time Apple refreshes it's iPad, iPhone, and even MacBooks..

Will try an exchange tomorrow and if it's the same, will stick with my iPad 4 !

I just exchanged my Air because it was very yellow on the left and blue on the right. The new one is strangely pinkish on the top and bottom edges... and almost greenish in the center of the screen. If pressed, I'd say this one is less distracting... but I'm not happy with still.. i might wait a week and see if the next batch of production yields better results.. I'm not at all trying to hunt out these issues.. it's really a shame that the start up screen for these ipads is a bright white screen that really accentuates tint/uniformity issues..

i'll see how i get on with this one for a while... my ipad 3 wasn't perfect in terms of uniformity and i eventually got used to it.. but it wasn't nearly as severe as i'm seeing on these Airs... kind of disappointing at the end of the day.

Same issue... on very light colors.
The perfect screen doesn't exist. :)

Purchased at the 5th ave store , going to goto soho and try to exchange today. Look at that huge line across the screen , horrible.

The first complaint I see since yesterday that I think it's legit. I believe Apple US is spoiling some of you too much with the exchanges. Come to Europe and see if you could get away with these exchanges. Not a chance.

I disagree from personal experience. In fact, the staff went further to get a perfect iPad than even I was comfortable with. However, Greece may be different from the UK.

I swapped mine with another one from the very same shop (john Lewis, UK) and this one is as near perfect as I can hope it to be.
Let's be clear, the other one had a color cast going from yellow to pink from left to right in portrait. To some that might have been acceptable, but if I pay £500 for a tablet I want it to be right, and that's just fair.
Anyway, happy as Larry now. If your iPad has a screen problem, get an exchange.
