I actually miss Jony Ive.
Same. At least progression of design was there under him.
Can they please hire some designers that will get rid of the horrendous camera protrusions?

Not only is it a hilarious ergonomic joke that a premium phone can't lay flat on a surface, the bump is creating wear spots in all my jeans.
Sorry too bad. The best you'll get is iPhone 17 when it might.ics the X's camera design.

With so many designers leaving under Ive era it makes you wonder if Cook is purposely doing what he done to Forstall.

Apple's hardware design choices keeps flipping back to the past and reiterating what was done before and far too often lately.

Space Black.MBP design colour choice, although very welcomed. Seems like a knee jerk choice and choose "very scary" for this shade and masking that phrase under Halloween is really suspect! IMHO. I mean Halloween and ghosts being the opposite shade fits better for very scary on that holiday than space Black does.

Without engaging nor encourage fresh new designs Apple is going to fave a serious product issue amongst faithful customers.

Steve Job's Apple used to be about, Design, Marketing, PR, Retail, Operation, Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering.

People in SJ era, Design is gone. PR is gone. Marketing is gone. Retail is gone. You left with some Software Engineers, hardware engineers, and Operations. What took over was the services people, namely Eddy Cue, Apple TV+, App Store, Sports, Music.

Really sad.

The stock price is around all time high and the company's general trajectory has plateaued, so lots of the veterans are cashing out and retiring or moving on to other projects.

They won the game, there's nothing left for apple to conquer (aside from healthcare or cars, but tesla already iphone-d that market). It's the biggest company on earth now and the next phase of its existence is gonna be a slow bleeding out as governments keep stabbing at it with regulations and fines for money.

Tweaking the iPhone year after year has got to be soul crushing. I can’t blame them all for bailing

Or they've all been moved to undocumented parts of the Apple campus that are only accessible by following a specific, unmarked path that leads to a door that has no visible handle...

;-)

Such a good analogy. And the handle to the door only pops up when you don't want it, and when you hover your hand over the part you want to touch, it disappears.

Oh wait that's the door to Alan Dye's office.

Jony Ive left before Apple added the Notch and then the Island to the iPhone. Smart Move.

Holy smokes. And a couple of OMGs to show I really mean what I say...

I guess an employee leaving a 160,000+ employee Silicon Valley company to go to another Silicon Valley company means the sky is falling!

Again!

Clutch your pearls and sell your Apple shares! It's really happening this time! Honest.

Jeeez....

Ive and Jobs brought Apple out of bankruptcy, they gave the company a new direction.

Product launches where always WOW, with bold new designs & great concepts.

Fast forward to today under Cook, we have a company with no direction, no bold new designs.

Everybody is bailing out. With Apples only Widcard iVision pro!.
Vision Pro is build to make you blind, so in the end you wont see the decline of quality.

Bit by bit, Apple is slowly losing its soul and becoming just another corporation. I doubt I’ll have enough interest in their products to visit this site daily a few years from now. It’s been a great ride.

What a ride ❤️

Tim Cook is a masterclass in how one can make more money for a company than anyone else yet be a clueless and massive failure in leadership when it comes to controlling and retaining people who create innovative products.

Jony Ive and Scott Forstall were the backbone of Apple's once-innovative products. Although those two didn't get along with each other, Steve Jobs knew how to control and retain them. Jobs controlled Ive in the sense that Jobs kept Ive's worst design tendencies in check while letting the best ones flourish. Jobs controlled Forstall in the sense that Jobs didn't allow Forstall's propensity for abrasive treatment of fellow employees to disturb things too much.

The next Mac after the Ive era. Just what the Jobs/Ive haters have wanted all along.

Vision Pro is still a hobby project. Right now its more like a promise but I still think humanity is not going to move to a future where they wear a 5 pound head gear to consume content.

We casual observers seem to treat Apple's design team like the SNL cast - they were always so much better 5/10/20 years ago.

To my mind they don't seem to be putting a foot wrong. The new MBPs are incredible. In my experience no one in the earbud space can touch the AirPods. And who remembers the iBooks and PowerBooks that used to have the display cable fail after a year of use? The graphics card warranty debacles?

I think we're in a pretty good place.

Nothing has changed. I don’t know if it’s because Ivy left and they kept the formula. I think a shake up and new hire is good, let’s get some new designs and iteration. Ivy isn’t the end all be all (Trashcan, mouse, Apple Pencil), there’s a lot of innovation that can be done, if Apple stops being scared.
