@Imixmuan What was wrong with Amazing Henry? Personally, I thought he was a positive presence when he was still around.
Perhaps my memory doesn't serve me well. I just recall being exasperated trying to explain something quite simple and eventually giving up replying to him. No offense on his memory intended...

@Imixmuan Well then again, perhaps my own memory doesn't serve me well - he left semi-shortly after I joined, so I would hardly be one to make any assessment anyway...

The concept of offense is overrated. :)

Not driving my own conclusions, but we've had some traumatic experiences here in the PowerPC forum trying to handhold the likes of Amazing Henry, Rabiz7, and a few others. I did look at your signature and saw OS X teeth but saw no Linux on your macs. Apologies if I offended. Wish you luck and happy tuxing.
Yes indeed I am new to Linux, but I have some vague idea. I will do my best to try on my on without being Amazing Henry. :)

Hi again,

I want to default to "Low Definition MP4". I know I can do it by pressing on the dots, but it goes back to high when I delete the cookies.

I was looking at the script but I couldn't find where the default is. Well, except for line 1279
var ytDefaultVideo = 'Low Definition MP4';
which simply isn't true, it defaults to high.

By the way, I'm not on the Mac PPC right now, so the script could possibly vary (or not), but it defaults to "High Definition MP4" on all computers.

but it goes back to high when I delete the cookies
That's probably the reason why. I had this happen with AF because by default AF is set to run in private browsing mode. Once i changed AF's prefs to remember history and keep cookies viewtube retained my settings.

Cheers

I just want to change the order of the definitions in the script so that low comes first in the player, I can't seem to figure it out. I thought I had it.

I was actually able to flip the order of the definitions on the options thing activated by the dots, but I can't figure out where to do it for the definition bar at the bottom.

Ten5Tube is fantastic, I can't believe how well it still works. I have been trying to get YouTube playback on the same machine in Void PPC but it is a lot trickier. I have tried with Viewtube on Arctic Fox and Faded Orb, this used to work great in Ubuntu 16.04 but I get jerkier playback (and its blue!) and static noise instead of the sound. If I download and playback with MPlayer, it is smoother and the sound works. I have noticed that VLC and MPVPlayer have this static sound problem too. Any tips for how to fix this? Do I need to alter the Viewtube settings to use MPlayer instead of VLC or whatever its using now? Thank you. We are talking about a 2005 PowerBook G4 running Void-PPC here.

With Void being a rolling release a lot is not tested. A build script just builds everything and uploads to the repo. Voids mozplugger seems to be built with mp4/webm disabled, and doesn't work with embedded audio/video. You audio issue is because the latest pulseaudio broke as well. The only way I've found to get YouTube in Void is by installing gtk-straw-viewer. It's a front end for invidious. The only issue with that is that invidious servers keep getting shut down, so you have to edit the config quite often to update the server address. There also is no package for browser-plugin-vlc in void. If YouTube is important to you I'd suggest something debian based that has proper vlc and mozplugger support.

Cheers

Fair enough thanks, if I want to watch YouTube I'll just boot into Leopard. As for the sound, I'll uninstall Pulseaudio again and use ALSA.

Straw Viewer is working at the moment but it uses MPV Player which currently outputs static noise instead of sound audio. I tried to uninstall Pulseaudio but it looks like it breaks parts of the Mate desktop which I have been using since XFCE stopped working. The joys of a rolling distro, hopefully Pulseaudio will be fixed soon.

No. No api needed. Just means the default invidious server is offline. Find a working server and change it in the config/prefs. There is a list of them on straw viewers github page. Or maybe the version I listed is outdated now. Check for newer versions.

Cheers

You can change the player in straw viewers config. Switching it to VLC worked for me.

Cheers
How do I change the default player? (I couldn't find the config file.) Only M Player works for me at the moment. VLC has sound and video issues and MPV has sound issues (still outputting static.) Thanks!

Wicknix, this maybe off topic, I really like the Lubuntu remix and plan to replace Leopard with that - how do I enable sound again and also, I have a USB 2.0 wireless N device I use to access internet - is there a standard Linux driver that I can use to set that up ?

For sound open Terminal and type: alsamixer then right arrow key until you highlight PCM. Up arrow key to set volume level. Hit esc to save setting and exit.

As for wifi... good question. Most people use the built in airport card and that driver is included in remix. I guess boot the dvd and see if your device is detected. If not open synaptic (package manager) and search for other wifi drivers. Some extras are available to install.

The built in Airport card is a B version card, so it would not work anyway. Also, its been years since I installed linux on a PC as I never installed it on any of my macs from memory - Should I install and keep the PB G4 connected by ethernet, so it can download the wifi drivers ?

If I recall it's in a hidden folder.
Check in ~/.config
Thanks, I found the config but I can't get it to work with mplayer as this is not a preset and it doesn't like the way straw-viewer passes the arguments, at least when I'm messing around with it. I guess my best bet is tying to get the sound to work in mpv as the video works great. It is a pain, good sound quality from cmus and mplayer but just static from mpv, vlc and some other programs.

Try adding -ao alsa or -ao sdl to the mpv command in strawviewers config to switch the audio output. One of those should work.
mpv -ao alsa yadda yadda default arguments.

I don't know if this is a good place for this question but I am trying to install Viewtube on TenFourFox. Greasemonkey is installed and shows up in the add-ons but when I go to the Sebaro Viewtube page it just displays the Viewtube script instead of downloading and installing it. I know from using it with Arctic Foc etc in Linux that it should prompt me to install but it doesn't. Downloading the script manually and then opening with TenFourfox gives the same result. I even tried Tampermonkey and LeopardWebkit but same problem. What am I doing wrong? I want to check out a Dailymotion video so TenFiveTube is out too.

Have you tried copying it into a blank plain text TextEdit document and saving as .js and moving into the correct folder?

Sounds a good plan, thanks. Do you know what the folder is called for TenfourFox?
