I took paxil/paroxotine for about four years. At the time, I needed it, but towards the end of the run, it was starting to cause more problems (insomnia, etc), and wasn't helping as much. Right now, I'm not taking anything (don't worry, I was properly weaned off the pills by a doctor - I didn't just stop taking them one day).

Yep.

I have MS, and depression is often a concurrent diagnosis. It was for me, and I've been on a low dose of Paxil for a couple of years now. It has helped me feel more like my real self.

"Kind of".. I started on Lexapro (Escitalopram) a few months ago. It's actually for anxiety rather than depression, though the same drug is an anti-depressant as well. (It's funny, you wouldn't think the two would be related).

Quite a few side-effects, some really annoying, some quite ok! Overall, I think it has helped, but may need to adjust my dosage.

Herro :D
I had a nasty bout of anxiety earlier this year and thought I was going to end up on some medication (for either anx or depression, since one can cause the other and such). My GP prescribed Propranolol to stop my physical symptoms but that stuff really knocked me out so I only took a few in the end. The consultant told me I shouldn't really be on any medication - that it was something that's possible to beat without medication and I'd appreciate the battle after it was over.

Chap was right. But it was a nightmarish 2 months.

I used to be on Zoloft. Helped me out a lot. I was also on neurotin (sp?) to help with trichotillomania. If you have TTM, you should ask your psychiatrist/psychologist if they would recommend having you try it. It helped me stop completely (on the lowest dose). :)
