I'd like to get a road bike. If I were to get a road bike, it would be equipped with Sora brifters (low end), an aluminum frame and either an aluminum fork or a carbon fork. That would be great.
I just need money now.
Edit: Oh and yes they are reflective tape dots. If your old wheel had a good hub, you should've just relaced the hub to a new rim with new spokes. But if it was just a no-name hub, replacing the wheel was a good idea.

Now that I understand more about bikes, I decided to go through this thread again. Is that Campy equipped? Those look to me like campy brifters.
Edit 2: Just noticed the Campy decals on the rims.
You should have a look around some of the local bike stores, they often have some good deals going on bikes from previous years.
I got my first road-bike on Friday, a 2012 Trek Madone 4.5/Shimano 105 (pedals and everything else), with a Garmin Edge 800 fixed to it, Bell Volt helmet to protect my head and some Bontrager shoes. My last big purchase for a long while I think.
I took a little while to get used to clipless pedals, but now I quite like them. I adjusted the tension on them to be a bit looser and did a lot of practicing leaning against a wall clipping in and clipping out. As soon as I have to slow down to a stop, I unclip the left foot.
I had a reasonable front yard to practice in fortunately. I'm going to keep practicing for a while until I'm really confident with them. It's raining pretty heavily today and everywhere is super slippery, so no more riding for the rest of the weekend. I guess that's when you need the rollers.
It feels quite different being anchored to the pedals, and even stranger walking in those shoes for any kind of distance.
That Garmin Edge 800 is an amazing little device! Heart rate monitoring, sat-nav features, cadence all in something so small. Only thing I don't quite like is pressing things near the corners of the touch screen, it's a little bit clunky compared to what I'm used to with an iPhone - but otherwise what an awesome little device.
