Really????! I always considered it a testament to engineering if a car (or any device) if it didn't need to be constantly revised. For example, american cars get overhauls every 3-4 years because they aren't well designed to begin with in my opinion.

I'd say that the Porsche 911 is one of the best engineered cars on the road and they update more often than every 5-10 years. IMO, it really isn't so much about the engineering of the car but the comfort and performance level that is associated with new technologies that come out in that period of time. I'd much prefer a company update every 3 years and incorporate new design elements and update features and styling than say its a really well engineered car and not revise for 7 years.

looks like a damn Lexus...

Not really a surprise though is it?

It's difficult to distinguish oneself, when a competitor is completely unable to establish its own design language, waiting for it's rival to define an aesthetic, then merely copying it. Mercedes was the focus of such similar unwanted attention back in the '90's.

Given that to be the position, I suspect a shift in BMW's design language should perhaps be expected, sooner rather than later.

the last one (ever since Chris Bangle designed it) they've been downright hideous. Easily distinguishable, but hideous.

That was actually van Hooydonk too.

I'm sorry but I find it a little bit pathetic when they update their vehicles only once per decade.

The current/previous 7 (E65) actually underwent a facelift only 2 years ago, or 4 years into it's life cycle.

Too much Lexus styling for my taste. I liked the old one more.

I'd buy an Audi S8 first.
