Do you have various tabs open in Safari? Perhaps might be worth closing them to see if that might make a difference. Perhaps even clearing Safari's data.

For those 26 mins - there's a good chance that I used multiple tabs but then closed Safari on exit. I'd hate it if I couldn't use more than 1 tab at a time with 9.3.1. Will clear the cache/history & see if it makes a diff.

Thanks a lot for responding.

My issue was created by a system task (identityservices) that is involved with the Messages queue.

Mine has been working now since Saturday when I set up the iPhone as new - the only difference is I used DFU mode to get there via iTunes. I did this specifically at an Apple advisor's recommendation. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201263

I chose Restore - NOT update. I set up the phone as new and went thru the activation process. I did NOT restore from a backup - I downloaded all my apps and re-set all my settings. If you choose to go this route - one suggestion - make sure you have proof-of-purchase (invoice with your name, store info and phone info including IMEI) ready in the event you encounter an "Activate iPhone" problem as I did.

My batter life is phenomenal - losing about 1% / hour in standby. I have many notifications and location services turned on. I did a lot of searching - there are other instances of this occurring under other iOS versions.

I would like to do this but I don't have the purchase receipt anymore.

Best I've ever had on 9.3

Here is an interesting screenshot.

3.5 hours talking on the phone used 31%. 1 MINUTE of camera used 28%?

Regardless I went from what I consider amazing battery life to abysmal.

If you see using an app actively a percentage drop in that time period wouldn't really be that unusual.

thanks for letting me know that when using apple News app it is normal for a battery to drop 20% for about 60 minutes of what is essentially a browser. i wasn't aware of that.

I find this terrible - now I have the phone constantly plugged in to avoid being stranded with no battery somewhere.

An hour of browsing would use up a noticeable part of the battery, and depending on the strength of the signal when the browsing happens, level of screen brightness, what is being browsed (perhaps some videos and so forth), etc. it can result in more battery usage some of the times over other times.
