Local store stocks the 15" hi-res anti-glare, but does not have any on display (but not in California, sorry). I'm guessing many stores will probably have a similar setup due to limited display space.

How the eff can they expect us to pay over £1000 for something without seeing it? Then, if you're not satisfied, you have to pay to return it? Argh..

Btw, What's your local store? Maybe you could ask them to open one of the boxes and have a look at the screen? Yeah, wishful thinking.

But only with the i7 processor (same for both the 15" and 17"), not the i5.

Which is a shame because I think the i7 will run hot.

Ahh, Tysons is my usual mall :)

I actually did ask if they had 15" anti-glare just to make sure she knew what she was taking about. She replied "yes, we have everything"

typical stupid store clerk answer. it means they have everything she is aware of. since she is only aware of whats in the store the answer is always "yes, we have everything".......

the store employees have sometimes no clue. in my apple store they didn't know about the update on the 13th and on the 14th they didn't know the model line up.

there are of course well informed sales people too to be fair.

They stocked the older model with anti glare; basically it was the top-tier channel configuration with anti glare added… otherwise everything else was stock; that's basically what I ordered online.

Hehe, that's what I ordered online too :) I only ordered online because I chatted with two people and they both told me that apple recently changed its return policy and that you can return or exchange even BTO items so long as it's within the 2 weeks timeframe. I wish the antiglare models did not count as BTO...

Toronto does not stock antiglare yet, and from my latest phone call they might have limited stock of one high-res model. No clue if anything is on display.

So i did some calling in my area and 4/5 stores i call said that they recieved 15" hires ANTI-glare models today and that the Glossy HI-res will not be available in stores but the anti-glare will be available...

The Escondido (north San Diego county) store says they have the high res screens in stock for all 15" models.

just called and had a lenghty convo with the buisness rep at the Esco Store (SUPER nice and helpful lady) and she Confirmed that the hi-res gloss will not be available in stores, Only the anti-glare.

The only anti-glare option IS high-res...unless they were referring to the 17"

so from what I understand, stores are currently saying that they will only carry the high res ANTI GLARE MBPs...and whether or not they'll actually display them is still unknown. I'm tempted to drive to goddamn sacramento, but honestly I'm not even sure if I'll like it; like I said before no way am I buying something without knowing what it looks like first.

Well they have the High Res screen at Victoria Gardens.

just called em, the guy said they don't have them (and that he "doesn't think they'll be getting them")

EDIT: yeah, so at this point it looks like a few select stores have the high res anti glare models, but not the glossy. Whether or not glossy is a for sure online-only option is yet to be seen. Additionally, it seems like none of the stores have them out for display yet, thus no opportunity to try them out in person yet.

Spoke with three stores in the Bay Area (Bay Street, Stoneridge and Stockton Street), the first two said "High res only comes in anti-glare, there is no glossy option" while the Downtown SF store said "Yes, there are three options, we will only be stocking the the anti-glare, glossy is only available online. We do not have any on the floor yet."

Was at the San Jose,CA store: They told me that the Hi-res units were, currently, only available build-to-order (online). They had no idea if they would even get display models in for people to "test drive."

The Stockton Street store got the 15" anti-glare in stock yesterday (Thursday). I was only fully convinced when the sales rep brought the box from the back room, and I checked the label. Loving it!

I was able to purchase the high end 15-inch MacBook Pro with High Resolution Antiglare at my local apple store in San Diego. I noticed that they did not seem to have any High Resolution Glossy MacBook Pros.

The Fashion Valley (San Diego) Apple Store had two 17" Core i5s on display today, side by side. One was glossy, the other was anti-glare. It was my evaluation of my own web pages on those two screens (side by side) that caused me to cancel my order for a 15" high-res glossy. The anti-glare screen looks GREAT!

And, happily, the Fashion Valley store had just received a new shipment of 15" Core i7s with high-res anti-glare screens about an hour before I got to the store. Now they have one less. :) They even matched my corporate discount online price.

I've been playing with the 15" Core i7 anti-glare all night long. It's stunningly gorgeous.... stunningly fast... and a joy to own! I sped it up a bit more by yanking the 500GB drive and putting in my 128GB SSD drive (OCZ Vertex). Zoom Zoom Zoom! :)

I'm REALLY glad I took the time to go to the Apple Store. Otherwise, I would have ended up with a glossy screen. I MUCH prefer the anti-glare screen!

And, FWIW, the additional resolution of the high-res screen is AWESOME. After using my Core 2 Duo with 1440x900 resolution for 3 years, the i7's 1680x1050 resolution seems gigantic. :)

I decided to skip the high-res option. I don't want anti-glare because I hate the way it looks and I don't want to deal with returning this one and waiting again for shipping time. Plus an extra 100 bucks. I'm satisfied with 1440x900.

They had the same set up here at the Lenox Mall Apple Store, but I thought the 17-inch anti-glare screen was very dull by comparison to the glossy, and we all know why: the glossy screens "pop" more.

Besides, you could still see all the fingerprints on the screen, so that was not an advantage either. I did love the resolution of the 17, so I look forward to my hi-res, glossy 15! :D

Ship it now, Apple! :p

So, the real question is, aside from california, can anyone CONFIRM that apple stores SOMEWHERE carry the high-res 15" MBP?

Yes, the SOHO store in New York City has the 15" hi-res MBP, on display next to a glossy 15". It's i7. I love the matte finish, didn't like the smaller text but I can bump it up a notch when necessary. My own MBP is attached to a 23" ACD 90% of the time, so I'd get a glossy if I could live with it, but I can't, so it's hi-res for me.

I went to the flagship 5th Ave. store yesterday and the antiglare 15" they had on display was actually an older Core 2 Duo, something the Apple rep wasn't aware of until I looked in "About this Mac" and pointed it out. He rushed off to tell somebody.

Because I read this site I usually know more than any Apple rep about everything. They should pay me...:)

Well, that's certainly not true. I guess they could have sold out.

I called on Tuesday, and I was lucky enough to talk to a guy that seemed to have some information. He said they expected a delivery on Thursday.
I called at noon on Thursday, and that guy said they were at that very moment unpacking the box. He said to call back in a half hour. I called back around 2:00 and the guy said they were in stock. I went right over and bought mine (15" i7 anti-glare).

Success! Called back, guy said they had them in stock.

Came right back and spoke to another guy who had no idea.

Showed him your post, my call log and he disappeared downstairs. Came back up w one in hand.

Thanks for letting me know, saved me from bringing an 11" dell mini with me :)
