A case would prevent that. Anyway, the option to remove it would be nice. It's great with Android phones to have a factory case, where a magnet opens the home page when you flip the lid. Straight in with no messing.

I agree - and that already happens on iPads, so it's not impossible to see it coming to iPhones. However, it would depend on Apple making a Smart Case-esque case for the iP6.

I can see why they keep it if you don't have a password. Maybe they don't have a disable switch for consistency.

I conduct a lot of business from the lock screen. Glancing at messages, emails, the music player, returning missed calls, etc. Generally just to even look at the time.

I could see why someone could make the argument for not having it though.

Every feature and switch they put in iOS I feel like it's just crammed into an old OS vs the OS being designed around it.

It seems so bizarre that Apple hasn't implemented a smart cover mechanism in the iPhone, considering they themselves popularized the concept with the iPad 2!

I know it's a long shot but I'm planning to go for an iPhone 6 and what I'll miss from my Galaxy S4 is not having to have a lock screen, I just press the home button and the screen turns on and I'm at my home screen.

I loved this feature of Android but in the end I disabled it because I found it was easy to accidentally click the power button in my pocket and then all sorts of apps would be opened and messed with.

Also, clicking the screen on the check for any missed calls/texts or to check the time meant it would take a minute or two to turn itself off again. When the screen lock is active, it turns back off in a matter of seconds.
