Personally, I would *not* want a blinking indicator light. It's too Blackberry for my taste. Also, I have enough (personal) issues constantly checking my iphone for new messages, emails, etc. already. I don't want yet another reason to constantly check my iPhone.

I have enough distractions in my life. LOL.

To each their own.

While I understand you not wanting the distraction, these options should be able to be turned off or on by the user (simple options the way Apple likes it). But while you may not WANT it, there is no denying these are important features for people who use their phone for work and NEED to know when they have specific messages. They shouldn't have to continuously turn on their phone, unlock it, scroll to the page that has their SMS or Email icon and check to see if it has a number badge on it. That's not a practical solution.

You saying you don't want to have to continuously check your email is the same thing as someone else saying they don't want email on their phone at all b/c they don't want to be bothered with it when they're away from their desk. Yes, it's an opinion but it's not a solution or even practical. The option SHOULD be there and it should be your choice whether to use it or not (just like email is now).

I don't want the stupid blinking light. That's for christmas decorations.

Read above. Optional and Apple can make the light hidden when it's not being used the same way it's hidden on the newer Blackberry models. If you don't want it then you won't even know it's there.

i like the current one but the thing is the damn things popping up and stoping what i am doing, i would want an option that if im playing a game the pop up will go to the status bar. like in settings be able to put all notifications in the status bar or have the options to put some pop ups depending on the app and what i am actually doing at the moment. say i want the messages app to be a pop up but not the the sports update i want the sports to be in the status bar, as that is set in place the messages app wont pop up if im in a game it will know im playing and instead of popping up it will go to the status bar.

that would be nice :D

I don't think the current implement ion is "bad", just a bit basic. All of the apps that I care about notifications from are on my first page and the badges work well enough.

Ultimately a real messaging solution needs to be more systemic then just notifications. I want to see a unified message box for mail, IM(iChat), SMS, VVM, Missed calls, Tweats, FB status and other apps (via plugins) that links back to the appropriate app. I want a tab for application notification history that is separate from my contacts. I want to be able to select a contact and see my complete interaction history with them and better management of contact groups to sort through it. I want a chronological view of every message and notification and I want it filterable.

Give me a real messaging solution, not just flashing lights and improved pop-ups with a simple history.
