Umm super majority ? A lot of computers have at least usb C 3.1 type 1 connectors. My Acer Nitro 5 has one and its $799 msrp laptop for gaming
Yes a supermajority. You think more than 33% of the world has a computer from the last 3 years? What about the millions of cars on the roads that have USB-A? Then the tens of millions of power banks with USB-A. Without a doubt, a supermajority of USB devices use USB-A, not USB-C.

Lol not the super majority. Majority sure but by no means “supermajority”

For those thinking it won’t change because computers still have usb-A ports....

Apple wants you to charge your iPhone. You can do that after the switch to USB-C.

Apple don’t care if you can plug it into your old windows PC.

If anything, surely they prefer you connect to a shiny new MacBook or MacBook pro that’s had USB-C since 2015/2016.

If you want to talk about what the majority of iPhone users do - they charge their iPhones using what is included in the box (or older Lightning cables they already have around) and rarely if ever plug them into a computer.

Awesome. I bet with the new iphones this year we will get a USB-C to lightning in the box. makes sense.

No one is 100% sure we will get the USB-C equipped iPhones this year. But it is 100% guaranteed that we will get it in the next couple of years at the latest. WHY? Because the Regulators in the European Union are forcing Apple to do so, forcing all tech hardware companies like Apple to standardize on USB-C. Or otherwise risk another huge lawsuit from the EU. The EU had given Apple a deadline of 2017 to accomplish this…. and well…. 2017 had already elapsed.

European Parliament Rules Apple must use the Micro-USB Standard Port for European iDevices by 2017

Didn’t they get around the micro-USB requirement a few years ago by bundling a lightning to microUSB adapter in the box?

I don't think lightening will go away just yet. But def usb-c to lightening in the box.

Too many SKU’s for them to do that.

I think we will see more wireless options before usb c. Wi-Fi sync via iTunes has been my preferred method of transfer from iTunes for years. And now with iCloud services and Apple Music I never connect to iTunes.
Agree
I think last count there were over 300 iPhonr skus in the US alone.
Perhaps they could do like they do with the macs, swap out the usb for a usb-c cable and if there’s a price difference the customer pays.

Or just buy a separate cable

No. The EU was not happy enough with that. The top EU regulator, that same woman (Vestager) who successfully just fined Google $5 billion…. made it clear in recent weeks that she wants to force all phone manufacturers (including Apple) to start adopting a universal standard (e.g. USB-C) for all smartphones.

EU might force Apple to ditch Lightning connector in favour of USB (August 7, 2018)

The EU is too much sometimes with decisions like these. “citing the "lack of progress" by phone makers”. Really, lack of progress?

If anything they should push for wireless charging.

That is true. Innovation will be severely stifled IF regulators are to tell technology companies that they should only stick to "universal standards".

Apple will just stop providing a charger in the box for EU sales, they’re not going to change the physical construction of a global product because the EU demand USB-C ports.

The problem with the EU argument is that the connector is only one part of it. Voltage and current need to be consistent too.

We could all end up with USB-C and have some chargers work with other devices and some not due to current levels.

so i was looking up the rumors and it is rumoured that the new ihpones will use the USB-C to lightning so that the charging block can charge the iphones faster. I think its actually possible.
