That wasn’t an option for me. As soon as the Apple stores came up I tried with 0 luck across the state and even into mass and NY

Yes, as of now all in-store pickups aren't in stock. Maybe that will change as we get closer to Friday, but I doubt it.

I don't think the stories will have many...if any. A lot of people are interested in AW4 this year and a lot of people are upgrading from earlier series

Totally agree.

Off topic, I want to trade in my watch 3 to Apple for $225 (just appraised my serial number). But I do not wish to do the mailing route, rather I want to trade it in when I pick up my XS Max preorder this Friday. Does apple store take trade-ins in store?

Are you implying in-store pickups will be available between now and Friday when they go on sale?

No what he’s saying is that last Friday when the Apple store went live for preorders for some people it took longer to be operational. I had my iPad, iPhone and computer all refreshing the page or app and couldn’t open it until 3:06. By that time all in store pick up options on the 21st for a stainless steel space black case where gone in CT and the closest stores both in NY and Mass. So I couldn’t just preorder what I wanted and get it on the 21st best I could do is the 28th-2nd window.

And yes there are still instore options that come around as people who preordered canceled their orders. Today I’ve seen a few aluminum cases come and go around the state. Mostly sliver with pink bands and 40mm.

Do we know when that stock will be posted online for in-stock pickup?
I don’t think they do launch day. Saturday if some come in or are left over.

Yes, they do

Why does everyone think apple cares if they sell the watch to someone online for in store pickup versus in store? Lots of guessing and speculation being stated as fact. There is no way to know for sure that there are any more or less watches reserved online vs sold to walk ups.

So I talked to a few friends. Each work at different Apple stores. I was told they normally have some of all options on release day. They don’t have exact numbers yet. For some reason there seems to be a very limited supply of stainless cases so I would those go first.

There were few few stainless every year when the watches launched. Apple does not like to have stock of those sitting in warehouses because the aluminum sells more and has a higher profit margin.

I expect this year to be the same, given the way the stainless slipped far out in shipping so quickly. I bought mine 3 minutes after preorders opened and I got the 9/28-10/2 window.

Because if you've ever been to a store during a launch, the sales reps will tell you that there is online pickup stock and there is store stock and they are allegedly not the same. I tend to think they are the same, really. This is based on my experiences reserving online vs. buying in store. I have reserved a device and watched it switch on iStockNow from green to red, then gone to the store and had to have them take it off reserve and the sales person has been worried if I needed to switch payment methods and re-ring the sale that someone would buy it if it went green online after it went back into inventory.

Soo... do with that what you will. :)

I personally don’t think the stainless steel models have arrived yet

Interesting you say that. Because when I ordered my space black stainless watch in 44 mm, I was predicted a September 28 to October 5 delivery, which is strange, because I pre-ordered literally immediately after the store went live with in almost 30 seconds or less, where as the aluminum models are shipping right away. Some stainless models are shipping/delivering on the 21st.

I’m starting to think the same is true. Aren’t folks with online orders of the SS model that originally were told 9/21 delivery now having it be later? Wonder if there are delays.

I am beginning to wonder that as well. Looking at the Apple Store pages, in-store pickups no longer allow you to pick a store. Just says "unavailable".
[doublepost=1537360052][/doublepost]Probably worth noting that I am seeing the same thing across aluminum models.

My delivery window is Oct 17-24th. I'm currently planning to goto my local Apple Store to see if they have any available for walk in customers (SS). I've been under the impression that they have stock for pre-orders. Those are guaranteed to be available for the people who ordered. And then there is regular store stock for walk ins. Those might sell out in an hour or they could have plenty for days. The one I want is $849.00. I think most people go for the less expensive versions so I might have a better chance of getting it.

With that said, do stores open at 8am for pre-orders only or is that for everyone?

They won’t have much SS store stock that isn’t spoken for. Especially of the gold SS.

Source: all watch launches have been this way.

What they MAY have a good amount of is sport watches. Especially non-LTE ones.
