I've no idea how to even check how much stuff used to cost....
I'm over in the uk so not talking contract deals or anything... Just purchasing the phones out right. I wonder how much the largest capacity iPhone 3 cost to buy... Compared to an iPhone 5s 128gig then.... Hopefully it won't have increased in price....

Which was Verizon's surcharge, not Apple's. Try again.

Verizon's surcharge on the AT&T model? That doesn't make sense. The price charged by AT&T and Apple for the non-subsidized AT&T phone went up at the time of the Verion iPhone 4 release.
So you are saying the iPhone never cost $600 full price before? (It did). All I am saying is the total price of the iPhone has gone up, and it even went up mid cycle in this one instance.

No, I'm saying that Verizon tacked on an additional $50 to the cost, Apple [and AT&T AFAIK] sold it under the normal pricing scheme. The pricing of the iPhone through Apple has not changed for current models since they dropped it after the 4GB 2G was discontinued.

Well based on the pricing on the 5c, it looks at though they wont be eliminating the 16gb for the 5s...5C 16gb 99....5S 16gb 199...:(

Huge mistake not to add this extra space and growth with how cheap data is. They increase the camera, video, iOS, and so much more that take up more space and reduce free space to us. I'm just about full with my 4S now!!

very few people will pay $500 for a phone on contract and $950 so whats the point. The market is not there.

Whatever, the cost of memory is not that high now. They could do it at a lower price point, but they have no incentive to do so since they make more profit by pushing stupid cloud storage which is worthless for me because I often get out into areas with no reliable internet connection.

May want to check your sources:

"Per the historical iPhone price structure, the new iPhone 5S running iOS 7 will be priced at $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, or $399 for 64GB with a two-year contract."

Checked and understood! Like i said UK prices!

Last year 64GB £699

This year 64GB £709

Feel free to look!

And if they released a 128GB it would be even more than that! like i said before ;)

Do you really need 64 gig of stuff stored on your phone all the time?

No one does but it's a convenience.

I still use a 160GB Classic in my car over an iPhone because I can have all 110GB of my music with me. I don't listen to music much anymore, mostly podcasts. Over the weekend, I wanted to hear music. Settled on the Beatles all weekend long, Had the entire Beatles catalog to choose from.

LOL fair point. I would of without doubt purchased the 128GB one. But 64GB will have todo..
just going from past HD and storage experience, I always fill it, then buy another drive, but the truth is, that i'll probably never look at half the stuff thats saved! Nice to know its there tho!

I bought my first iPhone because I wanted a true convergence device.

I was sick of carrying around a phone, camera and MP3 player all the time.

Back in those days, I also did most of my surfing on my laptop computer.

Now and I can do all of this and much, much more on my 4S. I have about 3/4's of my music library on there (all purchased by me over the years) and would put it all on but I don't have the space.

I would also like to start putting movies on there for travel watching - I only have one on at the moment.

Also with the improving cameras, I'll need more space and I haven't really scratched the surface at all with video recording.

As far as I'm concerned, if you want to truly make the most of the capabilities of these products you NEED more storage.

Personally I want that to be onboard, as cloud offerings cannot offer you the 100% availability and speed that onboard delivers.
