Thanks again guys....

I am not a mac owner yet, but I am excellent bargain shopper....lol.

P.S. Is there much diffence from the left over 2.4 and 2.5 ghz Mac Pro's out there. Is the 2.5 worth the extra 100-150 bucks?

No.
Well, I would have said "yes, sometimes", but since it doesn't sound like you absolutely need to run the processors at max constantly, it's a safe bet that there will be no difference to you.
If you want a bargain, buy an iMac – don't buy a MBP, don't buy an MB, and certainly don't buy a Mac Pro.

Personally, I do a wee bit of photography (for work), do audio, and (of course) write et al, all of it with tight deadlines. But I wouldn't really get anything out of using a Mac Pro, nor would I be able to tell the difference between 2.4 and 2.5GHz in real life. I could propably count on one hand* when it would have mattered a little to have such small speed enhancements.

The thing is, unless you render a lot of huge files, work with humongous photoshop files and have a very tight deadline, it will not matter.

*scratch that: "I could propably count butt cheeks. One. Two."

Thanks Tosser

I rarely do more than web surf with multiple tabs, use Itunes, and definitely not a gamer. I have a PS3 for that:)

I also plan to keep my new HP with crappy vista for all of my microsoft work products. Moving to Japan and can leave my HP on the ship for work, etc.

The only problem with buying an Imac for me is....I like to lounge on couch and surf while I watch TV:) I will definitely look into it though.

Thanks for the feedback!!!

Why don't you look into buying just a macbook, instead of a PRO? I just bought a Macbook and love it. I'm listening to music, have a bunch of tabs in FF and I'm watching a movie on my second monitor.

Geeze, I gave away my Vista machine, Jesus.. That was one piece of Sh**

Oh and btw, I always lounge on the couch, surf and watch TV

Macbook vs Macpro

I have thought about the Macbook over the MacPro. I am used to the 15.4 and I hear the MacPro screen quality is much better. I have a very nice HD screen on my HP DZ5 series.

I hear the new Alum Macbook screen is much better though.

I agree, Vista is absolute garbage!!!!

EDIT: BTW- the following info would not apply to the suspected scammers since they are not a major buyer of Apple products. I was just addressing the MacMall part of your question.

There was no 'macmall' part to my question.

I work in retail and am very aware of how discounts work. but thank you for playing anyway.

the only question was how these guys could profit from selling so low when Macmall is even $400 higher after their rebate.

answer -- perhaps because they didn't pay for what they are selling.

So they knew you lived in North Carolina and that you came from MR.com... somewhat invasive tracking methods for customer support to track your IP...

likely not that smart.

my guess is that they had caller id for the NC info and guessed the Macrumors because they have been googling themselves.

Also on the domain creation, I think they had a site before that with the same domain. and the emeryville CA I believe is the location for godaddy. so my guess is that they switched the domain to a service that would inherently mask the actual address which is probably Mama's Basement, Loserville.

They don't provide telephone support though, so they couldn't have used Caller ID.
