if you don't want to pay, windscribe works well, specifically in terms of streaming geoblocked tv. the free service gets you 10gb per month, but there are some voucher codes that get you more. EXPAND20 for 20gb and there was one for 50gb but I cant remember it. plus there's nothing to stop you setting up two or three accounts and cycling through them as you run out of data.

Plus nordvpn has poor reviews on the App Store

It has 4.5 on the U.K. store. I spent a while reading reviews on services and this seemed one of the best. I signed up to three years with a hefty discount. I like the fact it applies VPN automatically when you're out of about and not to networks you've specified.

I see express vpn has good reviews

It was between NordVPN and Express for me, but chose NordVPN over it. Can't honestly remember why, but was close.
[doublepost=1563527443][/doublepost]Just Google VPN comparisons online and see what best fits your needs. Both these services are highly rated online.

+1 for this. Same experience.

I use to use PIA but dropped it when it started preventing my emails from being sent from my Mac

I use NordVPN now on all my devices and it works well, is updated often and hasn't caused me any issues
I too signed up for 3 years at a big discount, so that was one factor in determining value

Has some really good features IMO

I've tried nordvpn, Hotspot shield, turbo VPN and expressvpn

I'm my opinion Expressvpn( what I'm currently using) is the best around.

I use NordVPN too, 3 years subscription at a much reduced price. It has been great on iPad, iPhone & iMac. I switched from AirVPN as I lost the ability to access some TV channels.

Imo any works fine. Just set them up manually using the VPN settings available in macOS and iOS instead of using the VPN provider’s app. I use pureVPN myself.

Why is this?

I’ve wanted to use one. The free ones use/sell your data. The paid ones are too expensive. So I go without.

If you live in a country with unrestricted internet access, sure. I’ve been in democratic countries where even reddit and tumblr are banned, so VPN is needed from time to time.
