Guinness? Horrid crap!

Real men drink Murphy's :)

(and i'm not biased just because i live in Cork where it's made...)

Actually, you have a very good point. I know people (not just Corkonians) who swear by Murphy's, arguing that it is a far superior product to Guinness. Part of the problem is that it is hard to source outside of Cork (or Munster).

I agree, that would be the best place to enjoy a pint of Guinness. Do you have any music recommendations that will go well with a pint of Guinness?

Anything folk, or anything trad, or anything natural sounding. Even classical, or jazz, nice and slow and smooth. Basically, the sort of music you can imagine yourself relaxing to live, or being quietly enthused by - if that's not too much of a paradox.
Unless it's Nigerian Guinness. Different taste. 7.5%. Mmm.

I have never seen or tasted this product anywhere but I have been told about it. Basically, Guinness meets the requirements of the German beer-purity law of 1516, which means that it is made entirely from natural products. In the African heat, such products can spoil quickly, and I believe that this version was developed especially to be able to cope with tropical conditions, hence the high alcohol content. If anyone has come across it - or even consumed it - do let us know.
Cheers

I like it once in a while, but it's not something I drink often.

My regulars are Red Stripe (my #1 favorite), New Castle, Stella, and St. Pauli Girl.

I'm drinking a can of Guinness as I write. I'm not an expectant Mum but it is purely for medicinal purposes. I may have another after this one.

Can't stand the stuff normally, no contest between it and a nice cold beer. Though I have a pint on St Patrick's Day and usually just about manage to finish it.

I'm sorry what? I find that insulting!

No offense intended I was just offering a erroneous explanation for your preference. By that same argument, the reason I like croissants is because I live in western NY...

Unless that comment you made above was in itself facetious...

Mmmm...I love me some Guinness. When I can't find it, don't have any or just need a change of pace, Negra Modelo is the next best dark beer IMO. (Yeah I know, I'm comparing apples and oranges.)

Love me a guinness, great for chilling and relaxing with mates, I've never found it to be a good one to get smashed with though...

If you can get smashed off of drinking Guinness alone, then you've got one hell of a big stomach.

A pint or three of Guinness fill me right up, and there's no more room for anything else.

PS -- I still haven't found a place that pours it right here in the states let alone be able to make a clover.

I find it hard to believe that Guinness doesn't do more to improve the quality of their product by insisting staff are properly trained to pour it right. Here in Northern Ireland (and I assume the rest of the UK and Ireland), Guinness have a very stringent quality control system which includes a quality team which inspect every premises on a regular basis to ensure that the pub is serving the product properly (clean lines/tap etc), along with training courses for bar staff to ensure they know how to pour it properly.

I've seen it poured at a few places here in the states where they'll take a spoon turned upside down and hold it under the tap while pouring to reduce the head. Where do these people learn how to bartend?

If only you could get those barmen to watch this, how hard is it really to pour a good pint?

Incidentally, the guy on that video is one of the Master brewers at Guinness, so he knows what he's talking about.
