How are they going to fix the laws of physics. There is only so much battery life you can squeeze into a package the size of the MBA. Expecting MBP battery life is unrealistic.

Law of physics.....

Lol u make me laugh. I never said MBA sucks. I simply passed because it had 5 hours of battery life.

Based on what? You often paint with a broad brush when you make statements. I had an iPad but bought the 11 inch Air as a companion. There are many things that the iPad can do but sometimes I need the Air. Try running Photoshop or Aperture on an iPad. Oh wait. You can't. Or if you for some dreadful reason need Flash. Again the iPad falls short (not knocking the lack of Flash on the iPad. I hate Flash but sometimes it's needed.) For some, the Air will fit quite comfortably and have a home along side an iPad. The Air/iPad combo may not be for many but some will surely find that both fit the bill based on usage.

U did not even read what I wrote. I never bashed on MBA and iPad combo. I said if u own MBA and iPad and I do. It is less likely people will buy iPad 2. Rei often paint with a broad brush with my statements....

Your quote: "If you already own MBA and iPad, then it is very less likely you will be buying iPad 2."

You claim the ability to speak for MBA and iPad owners. Unless you are elected to some MBA/iPad Order, you can only speak for yourself. Apparently many who own both the MBA and an iPad might see the iPad2 as a viable upgrade, and as an aside they might have the cash to throw at it anyway. Maybe you don't. As much as you would like to bloviate and skew the argument, your comments speak for themselves, and my points referred only to your comments and nothing else.Tap dance all you want.

Please post where I commented that you stated the MBA sucks. You said that you quote:"I passed on 11 inch MBA because it only had 5 hours of battery life. Hopefully, apple will fix this with next update." Unquote. What magic update will it be to the OS that Apple can do to squeeze more than 5 hours out of an incredibly small battery in the first place. Did you mean to say upgrade which would imply a hardware upgrade as opposed to an update which implies a software fix? Either way you continue to have comprehension issues. Might want to get that checked.

I've got the Air as an addition. Both devices have a place for me. The iPad is hander to open on the go and has the killer battery life, the Air is light enough to carry in addition to the iPad, and has more power and flexibility .

I don't get anywhere near the 7 hours battery life from the Air mind, but I do consistently get approx 9 hours out of the iPad. The iPad is also a dream for giving presentations.

It's just a shame the Air doesn't have a built in 3G sim card tray

Exactly. You pretty much summed up my usage. When out and about I have the iPad in a backpack. However, when I need a bit more juice I pack the Air and throw my mobile GSM/wifi device in as well and I am completely portable. For those that need a bit more than the iPad has but demand the ultimate in portability, I think the iPad/Air combination is optimal. If you look at the price points, it seems as though Apple planned it this way.

I'm lovin it

I switched as soon as the MBA 12" was available, having said that I still have my iPad as it has it's uses too but the things I bought the iPad for I find the MBA does so much better.

LIKE:
On a holiday of a lifetime I used my iPad to keep in touch with home and to upload my photos from my SD chips so I could see them and show them when I wanted. I also had guide books and leaflets from Japan in the iPad that I could refer to from time to time. Of course my language courses are on it too. My journal was kept in Bento along with the iPad notes.

The iPad sorted all my images into events so I could immediatly see which images were taken on which day. That is until Apple updated the iOS to 4.2 and screwed up all that neat organisation. What a backward step. The PHOTO app on the pad now sucks big time, useless. Why couldn't we have iPhoto on the iPad?

Fortunately I saved all my SD chips and have now loaded them into the MBA, sigh of relief, if only I had the MBA before my holiday. What a delight to use. Not crippled like the iPad!

Noticed your sig. Is your 17" MacBook Pro an Anti-glare model?

Do you use your 3g iPad for showing off your work (photography)?

What type of Photography do you do?

Bruce

Hey Bruce,

I have the glossy :( oh well. :)

I do use my iPad for showing off work. I use an app called Portfolio. It is a bit complicated at first but it is okay. I also put low resolution images out on my Mobile Me gallery and then just pop over to it when I want to show some work.

I really just decided to step up my photographic game if you will. I started with a D50 --> D70 --> D80 --> 300 --D300s and now the D3s. Send me a PM and we can talk offline. I am always looking for some times and hints to shoot better photos. I took and online course to get the basics and stuff. Pretty interesting.

For me the combo iPad/Air is great. I have the portability of the iPad when I go on vacation (took just it and the D3s and a few lenses for 10 days in Italy, and 10 in Portugal). It was great with the camera connection kit. I was able to edit on the iPad with Filterstorm. I came back and cranked up the 17 inch for a bit of Aperture and Photoshop Elements (will spring for Photoshop when I master Elements).

have both
need both
will keep both

iPad is perfect for gaming and other multimedia purposes, while the MBP is for work purpose like editing, creating files and so on. When it comes to portability I think they don't differ that much.

Ummm.... I use my iPad more for work, and my MB for errm recreational stuff. I must be doing something wrong ;)

The comparison is obviously subjective and much depends on what you want to do with them.

I recently sold my iPad, which I'd had since launch, to buy an 11" MBA because reluctantly I found the cliched consumption-not-creation argument to be true. I needed a portable device for email, web browsing, watching the odd film and, for work, light editing of documents, spreadsheets and presentations. I plumped for the iPad on the basis that the iWork apps would cater for the work stuff.

Unfortunately I found that using the iPad for work was severly compromised. The touchscreen UI becomes fiddly, the keyboard covers half the screen and, critically for me, formatting is not compatible with MS Office in anything but the most basic documents. Transferring files without a USB port - though entirely possible - was a nuisance.

All this was a shame because the iPad is better for 'leisure'. It has longer battery life, the advantage of built-in 3G and is a bit lighter. Too bad I couldn't afford both, but for me the MBA is proving a much more capable all-rounder.
