And this, ladies and gentleman, is the epitome of a young Android user. Resorting to name calling and other tactics to get their "point across".

Bye.

And this.....is just wrong!

What name did i call you? You said it was a nightmare and i said for the average Joe it is pretty simple unless your not very smart. Some people dont even want to try if it isnt obviously easy from the get go.
I have no idea which you are but you said it was difficult but who knows how much time you even spent on it. Maybe you are someone that tried it for 10 minutes in a store.

Your reason was pretty vague and for you to assume i am a young Android user because i said that is also pretty lame. Can i assume you are a young Apple fanboy because you perhaps tried to use it to 10 minutes without any other explanation? Because, thats what the young guys do.

You want a better response, give one yourself. At least i gave a reason why i didnt like iTunes. All you said was this:

Agreed.

I do not blame Apple people for being so loyal, I have used an iPhone likely longer than most here and understand the "package" that apple offers.

But I spit my koolaid out when they were not looking and dared to look at the SG2, yet I still will still love to play with the iP5 when it comes out.

I like iPhones & Androids a lot.

Judging by the number of page views of this thread, so do lots of other Apple enthusiasts.

You've got to admit, without Android, many people here would fail to have a place to vent their jealousy and anger.

Lighten up, you'll live longer :)

Did you try Google Music?

It lets you stream music from the cloud. You never have to sync your device to your computer to add songs.

I love it. And it's one of the reasons I left the iPhone and now have a Bionic.

Android music player is lame. Getting music on there is a nightmare.
iPod is an iconic device. iTunes is the #1 music store.

Any questions?

Clearly you never have really used an Android phone.

I will give you that the iOS is a great music player. iTunes is bloated and crap and if it was not for the fact that my entire libary system is based on it chances are I would of dumped it a long time ago. I stopped using the iTMS a long time ago and switch completely over to Amazon because it well just works. That is a lot more than I can say for the iTMS any longer.

As for music players on Android there stock one is OK. I know the major players all provide software to sync of the music on the phone and it reads iTunes and WMP and pulls the playlist/libery from there. Now for good 3rd party music players for Android I recommend Double twist. I think it is great and while not at iOS level it is pretty close and works very well. Mix that with double twist syncing on the computer and everything is just fine.

Google music for the cloud music and I am all set.

  1. Quad-core 2.0GHz processor.
  2. 1.5GB RAM, expandable memory with 32GB built-in.
  3. 4.65-inch Super AMOLED III display developed specially for this phone with an odd 1280 x 1024 resolution, which will give it a pixel density of 352-PPI, the highest on a smartphone so far.
  4. 10 megapixel camera capable of recording 1080p videos at 60fps.
  5. Metal body with 9mm thickness and a 2,250mAh battery.
  6. Built-in NFC.

I just saw the leaked specs for the supposed Galaxy S III, and it can make people regret buying ANY phone from this year. MWC is in February which is about 5 months from now and iPhone 5 will fairly look outdated next to it by then. The G2 was released last April internationally. So going by that month, the GS3 could only be 7 months from now.

If your preferences is towards more to specs, stick to Android. I feel Android is at least a year ahead of iPhones when it comes to specs and features and the gap is getting wider thanks to Samsung. I think Sammy is separating itself from pack including the other Android OEM's when it comes to cutting-edge technology.

Perhaps it is better to wait for the GS3 over the GS2, Nexus Prime, or iPhone 5. Usually by that 3rd, 4th , or 5th gen, most manufacturers will peak at that model. Those first two gens, they still go through trial and error before refining. Think of the progression The Beatles made from their early albums to their later albums. Samsung Galaxy S3 is like the Master Of Puppets album for Metallica. Peak. Sammy hasn't peaked yet with the Galaxy Series.

I bought SGS2 and IMO iPhone 4 is dated compared to it. I hope iPhone 5 will be step forward, if not, I will stick with SGS2 until Nexus Prime is available.

i have an S2, using the iphone 4 again though. i've mentioned in another thread about this, but the 3 issues for me were screen resolution, data usage, and battery charging.

screen res is too low, you have to zoom in to read stuff... couldn't get used to that again after using the iphone 4.

data usage was insane.... i could have looked in to that but i couldn't really be bothered to spend the time on it. cliche, i know, but the iphone does "just work".

battery life was fine, battery charging was slow. real life example was that i got a call to go out, so i put my phone on charge to top the battery up while i got ready and waited for the time to head out. an hour later when i took it off charge the S2 hadn't really picked up that much charge, the iphone would probably pick up at least 40% in an hour.

as for "feels cheap"... i think people are confusing build quality and weight. as far as i'm concerned the build quality is great. the buttons all feel good, no weird edges of big gaps or anything anywhere on the phone. it just doesn't feel like a 4.3" phone because it's so light, and some people would prefer that.

One the biggest advantages of sgs2 or any android device for that matter is the fact that android supports background syncing. This is a feature you can't take it to lightly. Everyday I leave the house and got all my apps automatically synced on the sgs2. On the iPhone I need to go through all the apps, launch them to be updated in order to avoid the usage of 3G network.

iOS 5 takes care of this.

If you double tap the screen on the SGS2 it fits all into the screen, but like you say I find I can't read it, have to zoom in. My son has a 4G iPod Touch and I remember going WOW first time I saw that screen, just how clear it was, It was like HD everything was so detailed. The iPhone 5 is gonna be some peace of kit but vastly over priced I feel,

Over priced compared to what actually? The iPhone has been $199 for nearly 3 years already. I never understood why people say the iPhone is overpriced at all, most competing phones end up being the same $199 or even $249 starting.

With the iPhone, the OS is what sets it apart, not the specs. How well does the hardware react to the OS? That is the main factor. Is 2.0 Ghz necessary for a phone? Really? Does it even matter if the OS cannot take advantage of those specs or power?

Android phones suck down power like a toddler on a apple juice binge.

Of coarse Android is a year ahead of specs, the iPhone 4 is 16 months old!

At first glance, the dual-core A5 chip does appear to be very similar to a Cortex-A9, but rather is probably a highly proprietary design that is also compatible with the ARMv7 instruction set. Qualcomm’s upcoming Krait chip takes the same approach, as does Marvell’s Armada. So saying this phone has this Ghz processor and comparing it to another just based on Ghz is probably not a accurate representation of how either will perform on a given OS.

When the iPhone 5 debuts, it will have one of the fastest phones if not the fastest, regardless of Ghz. Look at the last post by me in this thread. The iPad 2 which has the A5, out performs the Galaxy 2 by a wide margin, even though the Galaxy 2 has a .2 Ghz(200Mhz) advantage. Same goes for the upcoming HTC with the 1.5 Ghz processor. The A5 beats that too. Its not all about the Ghz.

The Gpu in the A5 literally destroys anything out right now. And upcoming into 2012. As you can see how well hardware performs depends on well the OS performs with the hardware. The A5 wins most of the tests.

So how will Android be a 'year ahead'.

the iPhone is the same device the last 4 years. Obviously hardware upgrades over the years have made it much faster, and the high res screen ( hate the name "retina" ) in the iPhone4 is nice, but a small 3.5" screen really blows, the Nexus-Prime will trump that soon.

My beef is it is still a home screen with app icons all over  That was cool in 2007, but it is 2011 already, where are the Widgets, and customization ?

I would be tempted to go back to an iPhone if they do this;
- 4" or 4.3" larger screen
- Widgets
- Allow customization like from jailbreaking without the need to jb
- Get rid of that lame single round button at bottom, give it three buttons like Windows phone

If Apple would do those four things above, I will be first in line to pay full retail, but I highly doubt they will have the balls to do that.

I did not get the SGS2 but I did get the SGS 4G (T-Mobile) and regretted it from day 1 (I bought it outright from Amazon, not through T-Mobile). It has been extremely flakey from the start, and now it is shipped back to Samsung for repair. I also have a Samsung refrigerator which has had some issues. I am not exactly thrilled with Samsung's quality control right now, and would not even consider an SGS2.

As for the button, I like the button, no need for three buttons, cumbersome. This isn't android.

IOS 5 will take care of the rest.

Home screen with App icons all over? So? Why is that a problem? Like I said IOS is not Android. You are describing Android and IOS is not that. Nor should it be.

Its a different story in the UK, An iPhone 4 at the moment will cost you £40 per month to get it free, (Yes we get free phones over here) I got the SGS2 for £25 per month free, the iPhone 4 is still the highest priced phone over here. Even a 3GS costs £35 per month to get it for free and that things 2 years old now. Thats what I mean by expensive, and where is the iPhone 5 gonna fit in? Its gonna be at least £50 a month to get it for free.

I live in the UK too and you are right.

The iPhone 4 on o2 is £200 on a £32 a month contract with 500 Mb internet, its still the most expensive phone on the market.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is cheaper and its arguably a better phone, theres no doubt that its the better phone in the spec department.

I have no doubts that the new iPhone 5 will be atleast £300 on a £35 a month contract with 500 MB of internet, if that is the case, I am going to have to look for an alternative as I am only spending a maximum of £200 upfront for a phone.

The SGS2 is looking very tempting at the minute, but I will wait and see what Apple reveal on the iPhone front.

That's just awful, I always hear about the UK getting stiffed when it comes to prices if consumer electronics in general. Sorry to hear that!

From suddenly wanting an SGS2/iPhone 5/Nexus Prime I suddenly feel the urge to buy a cheap decent smartphone and get that at release. :D

As a whole our plans in the UK are FAR better though, I mean for example the best contracts on the iPhone 4 with 3 are far better than what the US have. When you consider buying the phone outright and using something like a Giffgaff £10 sim every month it'll be hard to find something like that (250 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet) for that price.

I agree Giffgaff is a good deal but the phone to buy out right is £499, £100 more than the SGS2. The 3GS is the same price as the SGS2

I got the SGS2 when early in August when it came out here (one button version) as I was sick of my JB iPhone 4 and wanted something new. I've used Android before and the specs were good (I work in a phone store, lol, so I after playing with it for so long I thought it was fine). Used it for a week and a half, wasted countless hours and wanted to throw it against the wall. Sold it on eBay and lost a couple hundred AUD.
In hindsight the HTC Sensation would have been better for me, similar specs but a few small things such as delayed/customisable lock screen (didn't realise it was only the HTC sense overlay that had this!), surfing auto wrap might have made it a less frustrating transition.

For Android to have such 'open' software, I was frustrated that everything I wanted to do I had to pay for or I would have to mess around hacking it more than the iPhone when I thought it would have been built into the OS. I'm not a programmer or anything so I didn't want to do that all over again.

Also the Samsung Kies software wouldn't work on Snow Leopard MBA or Lion iMac, (not compatible with the version of the phone, wtf?). Took me hours to messing around with my MobileMe/iCal appointments to Google Calendar and sometimes they disappeared or the phone would change the dates of the appointments but Google online would show the correct dates.
I thought there would have been a little bit of work getting it synchronised but then everything about it got me angry. I had to restart it constantly as it kept running slower, and battery kept getting hot or going flat.

A few of the guys at work have gone to Android, and are completely happy with it. They don't use Macs or the calendar in their phones as much though. I think I am too attached to Apple to move now lol.

I've seen a few come into our store which have cool docks and customisations, but I think I'd rather stab myself in the eye before going down that path again.

Of course, most of the HAPPY SGS2 users are probably no longer on this forum, so this thread's viewpoint is somewhat one-sided. :)

That's the problem with using Apple hardware. It's all or nothing. It would be fine if Apple were the best at everything but they are not. The only way to get the best stuff is to go with Windows because everybody (even Apple) has a version of their software for Windows.

You sir are talking in a sensible manner. +1

Android as I said all these specs doesn't matter when your OS isn't optimized for it. It's like the early days of PS3, games weren't optimized for it and they looked like crap. That's the situation with android. All that specs for nothing because of the android OS.
